But once you go to Fashion Nova Men's insta page, you see so many dark skin male models. It's ridiculously disproportionate when compared to Fashion Nova's main page. I guess dark skin men are more socially accepted than dark skin women smh.
Of course sis lol this society has affixed dark skin with masculinity and light skin with beauty and femininity. Which contributes to dark skinned women being overlooked and deemed unattractive 🤦♀️
God I love this woman. She's not like any other mua, she wants to talk about makeup but also about important things & on top of that she has a great personality... she's so underrated
That subs. I say shes underrated. The brands owned of color could stand to collab with her more. And mainstream brands who value what she stands for could stand to repost her more. She is underated. Not by us the subs but by the ones who need her subs.
Jess Campbell that’s exactly what i meant. I just think brands should give her more recognition, because i feel like they don’t give her the recognition she deserves, i didn’t want to say that she isn’t doing great because i know she is
It seems like every video I gain more and more admiration for you. Don’t ever stop speaking up for black issues Jackie because even though it could cost you brand deals and business relationships you have a huge impact. You’re voice helped educate so many makeup brands on becoming more diverse in their shade ranges and now you’re doing it with fashion. I love this 💕.
The problem is not only Fashion Nova but the Shaderoom accepting their advertising when they are a black owned Instagram channel with a predominantly owned black audience. They shouldn't be posting their advertisements if they don't reflect their audience.
I stand with Jackie 110%. Your handled this diverse topic well, no need to fear any brand because we will stand with you and there is strength in numbers!
I love that someone is FINALLY speaking on the “instabody” I think that shape is so weird and unrealistic. It’s the photo shop body. I can’t stand that that’s the only shape up there for the thick women.
Taylor Blackmon totally agree. It does my head in when you see bigger women in outfits but they have a flat stomachs and tiny waist but the rest of them is plus sized. To me that doesn’t make sense. If you are bigger chances are you have a tummy. Then you look at these women and think I’m curvy but I look horrendous in that outfit. It’s so toxic. Curvy comes in all shapes and sizes not in one narrow minded view of how curvy can be attractive and basically telling people that’s the only way curvy can be attractive. Fake body positivity. X
Lara Jiménez I’ve been sick since Sunday Probably not going to school again It’s 1:45 am Bus leaves at 6:23 Jackie is Queen Jackie is a damn commitment
I noticed that they started posting darker skin girls right after your video. I wish my voice had that much power to change a multi million company. From since I washed this video and saw the outcome I’ve been motivated to keep up with my RU-vid channel in hopes that’ll be like you in the future ❤️
Yeah this has always been something that bothered me about FashionNova too. They benefit and heavily market off of Black culture but then turn around and exclude Dark skinned women.
It would help if people stopped talking about colorism is vague terms. Just call colorism colorism. An honest conversation involves saying "you do not post deep brown and dark skinned women". If you use "women of color" then we open ourself up to being gaslighted. That's why saying things like "we are all black" is not helpful. Much love.
Jackie!! A👏🏼M👏🏼E👏🏼N👏🏼 I’ve had so many unbelievably horrible experiences with this brand I could go on for hours, the unprofessionalism is NEXT LEVEL. Truly proud of you for making this video! It’s always nerve racking to post videos like this but hopefully people start to see 👀
AlumniArmy I literally just watch Kristi’s video where she mentioned this and then I see this video. I just knew it and I’m thankful for it. Kristi also worked with them and had an awful experience. If they can’t even treat those influencers or creators they work with right, then you know CS for regular customers is complete shit.
An old coworker of mine is a dark skinned black woman with the typical "novababe" body. She wears lots of their clothing and has even gotten a comment from fashion nova on her photos but not ONCE has she ever been featured on their page. The colorism is real.
Also proud of you for actually speaking about these things.. I know how scary it can be to actually speak about big brands with pretty much THE MOST industry power, I see this all going on on twitter ALL the time, but I know everyone is kinda scared of them when it’s more than just a “keyboard war” (understandably so honestly) so like,,, auntie got balls. Proud of you 💪🏼
These people won't work with Jackie not because she's black alone she speaks up for black people too. She's one of the only few genuine black people that actually struggle to put us on the map. A youtuber wayyyyy older than most of these baby youtuber(9-10years in the game) one might think ohhhhh she's so old yet she doesn't have more than 10million follower and it doesn't matter because staying true to your craft and art is actually wonderful and a blessing rather than following shady acts and selling souls to get more coint. I'm damn right proud of you
They rip off all designer and it’s sad. I follow a very talented woman named Sel and they took a personal piece she made for her birthday and no one else and re did it. Theirs looked awful!
Can't FashionNova just ask people if they can use their work, credit them and off commission. I'm sure quite a few designers would be open to working with them if the get their designs recognised and spread
@@jennaameedi im 13 and fuck that. everyone should feel beautiful with their own body. every body shape is beautiful and fashion nova is garbageeee and their edited body shapes are gross too
I just checked their Instagram page and the majority of the post are still lighter skinned, but after about 30 or so post the throw in a darker skinned girl. To me that's them just throwing a bone. Because when I do a fast scroll the page still looks like light skinned women.
@@sianunwin-carroll4779 I wouldn't say it's 5-9 posts. Yeah they have started to post, but my point is there is a difference in making a change to shut someone up and making a change because you see the error of what you were doing before. To me they only made the change to shut people up.
“Women of colour” is a trash term that needs to be thrown out. “Of colour” is a jim crow term that refers to minorities- which is literally anyone who is non-white. That of course is obviously just toooooooo vague. It’s OKAY to be specific. Say black women, and to be even more specific: say DARKER-SKINNED black women. Fashion nova does post “women of colour” just not the ones who look too black or far from Eurocentric. I agree that they are colourist but that youtuber executed those emails SO poorly.
Absolutely. She disrupts the beauty world - and it's needed. She changed the color line of It Cosmetics. You go girl Jackie. This Mexican/ Iranian girl would live to listen.
When brands disrespect us...I stop buying from them and I point it out to my friends and family. I do the same thing with movies, tv shows, etc. Companies keep doing us like this because we won't band together and stop giving them our money. We take what they give us waaaaaay too often.
Miss Jackie Aina hittin us with that real shit ONCE AGAIN. Just when I thought I couldn't possibly love you more. You are my favorite. I truly mean that. Consistently uploading the shit that needs to be said. I applaud you.
As a young female I’ve been waiting for someone with a platform to say something about this issue. And I’m so glad you did. I felt like everyone thought it was acceptable. I’ve started going to the gym and subconsciously trying to follow a body type like the ones on that site. Thank you for being the voice of young girls like me.
Yes yes yes yes yes. I have this body shape. I need a tiny lower body and larger upper body shape in woman movement NOW I feel like most woman don't have this body shape so it doesn't really bother them
As someone who has a booty on my chest....I feel this. Like, I feel like that things are now like, if you don't have big hips and a big ass, you aren't sexy or attractive. But I guess you can be a negative A cup on top. Just as long as you got da azz.
I don't patronize this brand because of their trash return and exchange policy. No matter what happens, you can't get your money back. The older I get, the more conscious I am about quality and textile waste. So, they don't even get a second look from me.
wellhellopanda why do people shop there anyway? If you are 22 and over you should be looking for quality pieces with styles that stand the test of time
It's beside the point, but I just learned this and took advantage of it. I'm assuming you have to pay through Paypal, but Paypal will reimburse you return shipping costs for any place that doesn't provide free shipping. You don't have to apply that to Fashion Nova, but it's a fun fact!
as a light skin woman I never thought you were coming for us, we have it soooo much easier and have sooooo much more representation and it straight up doodoo, you cant claim to post woc if you dont post women of all colors, I super appreciate you being clear that you werent coming for us but let me tell you that you didnt come off like you were, you were clear about what the issue is and I appreciate it.
I think the influencer that emailed them should have been more specific and said “dark skinned women” because “women of color” just means (not white) I thought. Fashion Nova was able to make an excuse by saying that they do post women of color. We need more representation.
@@arianahjanae1914 I realize this is 4 months old but I wanted to point out that the reason Forever 21 crashed is because they majorly expanded with their stores not considering that more stores equals more money towards providing clothing to those locations as well as building rental, payment to the delivery drivers who bring shipments to stores, pay for all the employees, ect. And on top of that they have to keep up stock for all online orders. Fashion Nova may be getting big, but they have enough common sense not to open a ton of stores at once because of it.
I feel like mostly everyone is starting to morph into one look. Like majority of these people are starting to look THE exact same. And brands are feeding into that. And feeding into the fact that surgeries + cosmetics + editing are sooooo accessible/ overly used right now. It’s becoming creepy. Aunt Jackie spoke nothing but facts in this video, y’all can be mad if you want but it’s true 😂
ClaireAKokE YES. The next generation of girls are becoming so self conscious and so image oriented and these brands are literally preying on that. It makes my stomach churn.
Alexandra Nicole honestly! Nobody is an individual anymore, it’s so sad. There’s a never ending cycle of comparison to the next person, it’s so damaging.
Fashionnova, shein, they're all the same cheap polyester clothes. I think we all need to move towards capsule wardrobes with timeless pieces. Say no to fast fashion. Buy clothes that will last decades and not look dated decades later.
D N exactly! Fast fashion is horrible and forever21, h&m, etc..idc if their customer service is great and the clothes are cute, they’re not worth supporting either way.
Lol I am so selective with my clothing that a majority of my clothes are starting to fall apart at the same time because of how long ago I bought them. No regrets though, cause like you said, they have lasted me years!!!
Lol. No Asian fashion nova models tho. It's either light skinned Hispanics or African American or mixed girls. We need all shades, tones, ethnicities etc.
panda von asians are always forgotten in the west and in america. lol, thank god i switched to just buying from asian brands. none of these american brands care about asians to begin with so
well if the brand was diverse with who they used to model the clothing, then maybe you would not have known the brand she was referring to. it is very obvious who the insta brand is because of the models they use and thats the whole point of the video.
@@OneDifferentBeauty I don't really talk on the internet so I don't know how to phrase things 😅. But I'm cool with getting read in the name of education lol.
I love these “hey guys, we’re gonna have a chat and do our makeup together!” Voicing your opinions and concerns while you’re on such a large platform is difficult but I love how you stick to your guns and express yourself so concisely. Keep it up!! ❤️
I personally have never shopped on Fashion Novas website due to the 45" 13" 52" body measurements and the "milk with a flick of coffee" women of color complexion they love to hire as models.
Wow, those emails were certainly proof in the puddin'. They were dismissive and company tried to twist things around to make the influencer look like SHE was the one with a problem. The nerve! Their attitude was "well we have enough of your people buying our clothes so your little comments are irrelevant"
Depends where you live..I've never seen one either.. Closest I've ever seen is this waitress at the casino...she got two big old bricks in her booty thinking its cuteee...she's 4'7 and skinnny as heck 😂
it's extremely commendable how you always stand up for what you believe in, voice your opinion on important issues, and never compromise your integrity! ilysm !!!
It's getting sad that, everyone keeps using the "women of color" term to cover up their Colorism. Just say no Dark Skin black women allowed and stop lying about who you promote. 🙄🙄🙄
If they could be that bold and honest... I think I would have respect for them not hiding who and what they are about, but then again that would take some type of integrity and honesty which you can see they have none!
I think there’s a lot more to dark skin then just black women. I see that it’s a problem but we should all remember different races have different skin tones from light to dark or dark to light. I’m not trying to start anything but saying there’s more to this then just one race. Such as Philipinos they are very dark and beautiful or someone of the mixed aztec and Mayan people in mexico and Central America.
Dark skin is in every culture. Clearly it’s not just black women, but it’s dark skinned Hispanics and Latinos, dark skinned Indians, native Americans, dark skinned Asians etc. No one of dark skin across the board wasn’t getting recognition people with dark skin exist in every culture and every culture their dark skinned people are over looked
THEY SENT OVER A RETURN LABEL ASDFFDFSFKF. I can’t even get them to send me my packages that I PAID for. I’ve had 2 that have just gotten “lost”. 🤷🏽♀️
If a brand only has light skinned models, even if they are black, I decide to spend my money elsewhere because colorism against dark skinned women is important to me. We need to stop saying women of color and be direct. A near white looking person can be a person of color. Directly bring up dark skin. That’s the only way we can start genuine conversations about colorism.
I have never ordered from them for the reasons stated in this video. The unrealistic body images as well as the lack of skin tone/ethnic diversity. I'm over the cookie-cutter, build-a-body, being represented as the only acceptable/beautiful body. Thanks for speaking up!!!!
*Jackie's at it again! Word of the day integrity. Do you stay silent and accept the cheques or do you discuss your concerns in the hopes of making positive change? In many cases silence makes us complicit. We must never be afraid to discuss these issues.*
@@jackieaina Don't see it as a failure. That experience brought you to this point making this video which will inspire many. You spoke up, you made your concerns known. On looking at the comments it seems you gave a voice to the concerns many of us had, now they are speaking up. Companies will think twice before ignoring our legitimate concerns if they can't bank on our silence. You shone your light now others feel comfortable doing the same that's a positive result. Keep shining!
I'm very impressed with the way you articulated your message, and most importantly with your stance on supporting companies that don't represent who you are and look like, even if that means that you are losing a paycheck because of it. Representation is very important for the children of tomorrow, and by doing this you are part of the solution to a more inclusive better tomorrow. Thank you, and much respect. We need more people like you taking a stance for what is right just like many of our ancestors did and died for.✊🏼
i completely agree wit you i been tryna get on the fashion nova page for ever and i cant cus i dont have the skinny waist and fake booty like my booty all natural
Watching this video a year later and I still have never ordered from FN. I've heard so many people on RU-vid complain about the brand but yet they still buy the clothes and do free promotion on their channel... I honesty wish people would promote ethical, inclusive brands.
You’re like an older sister. Knowledgeable. Fun. Earthy. All while being professional. Thank you for this. Educating & affirming. Big hugs to you, Jackie. xo
This was completely on point. I have noticed this as well. I also wondered why does the curves page have to be separated from their regular page. Are plus size women not of the same species?
Italy Evans yup ! I was mad as hell when I found that out after spending all that money on FN for a vacation and didn’t get my money back for most of the shit I couldn’t even fit !
this brand has had many many instances where they’ve stolen clothing ideas from little brands usually owned by poc!!!! this brand is very sketchy and should not be supported
Black women, if you guys shop with this brand after this conversation you guys are crazy. There are plenty black women fashion brands that you can buy from to meet your needs.
literally even the “plus size” models have the instabody, and i don’t know any plus size women that look like that, even myself. very few of us have the round hips that the models do (you know what i mean, it all juts out the back and nothing on the sides!) it’s just not realistic, and FN thinking they can get away with any of this, either color or size, is unacceptable and it pains me that people never learn
