The first lecture in this year's series was presented by James L. Glevin who is an American scholar of Middle Eastern history. He has been a faculty member at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) since 1995 and has written extensively on the the modern Middle East, with particular emphasis on nationalism and on its social and cultural history.
His recent books include The New Middle East: What Everyone Needs to Know and The Israel Palestine Conflict: One Hundred Years of War.
