If he didn't he would just be either ice king or Simon not winter king. Just putting the crown is not character development but what you do or don't do afterwards is.

Exactly, he was broken down to his fundamental form (without all the magic of the crown or its influence) it was like the crown never interacted with him in the first place and then spat him out.

Yeah, in the episode when there was this monster destroying magic, it turned off the crown and Simon turned to normal, but that caused him to age/almost die within a few hours because of that. (Albeit not as fast... perhaps this winter king is even older?) Glob simply undid the crown and left Simon as he was before the crown happened. At least in body.

Everyone misses the point with Simon. Simons defining characteristics is his kindness and compacion. When he sees demon child crying in a middle of apocalipse he helps her even tho he's totaly not in a good position himself. When he's being chased by Ozers and comes across crowbar and pillow he chooses pillow as a weapon. When we come across the winter king he looks like everything we would want Simon to be. Powerfull, immortal, sane, inteligent and fun. But it is revealed that this situation came into being purly because he didn't care about anyone other than himself. Simon might be depresed but at the end of the day he's doing what he's doing because he wants to help others.

And this is strongly paralleling Fionna and Cake. They are only doing what *they* want to do at the expense of others. They are going around ruining other dimensions so they can make Simon Ice King and restore their world even though that would mean wiping away their world's existence, a world other people really like. Fionna is beginning to realize what she wants isn't right but Cake doesn't seem to care and wants Simon to be Ice King again even when it makes him suffer. I have a feeling the series will end with Fionna sacrificing her happiness for the happiness of others. She's going to make a selfless choice and even though she won't get that magical world she always wanted, she'll find happiness in the joy of others and acceptance in her ordinary world, as non-magical as it is. Adventure isn't the cure for depression and Fionna is going to learn this. But Cake? Cake I'm not so sure around. Cake is acting increasingly reckless and irrational regarding the crown and putting a lot of people in harm's way to get it. I don't know if she'll be ok with not making Simon Ice King and (and this is an extreme scenario) the show may end with Cake being the final obstacle Fionna might fight and overcome.

This makes sense. Simon is, e.g., tormented by the memory of Betty, while Winter King couldn't care less. It's this callousness that allowed the winter king to do something so villainous that even the Ice King would balk at it (projecting his madness on Bubblegum and then willfully keeping her like that for over 100 years)

I have a different theory about ice Marceline : - In the song we see Simon and young Marceline getting attacked and the monsters are the same as those who went after our Simon and our Marceline after Simon promised her to never use the crown again (when he hide her in the car). - In our univers, Simon breaks the promise and kill the monsters but it's not what we see in the song. Here, we see them BRACE FOR IMPACT. - I believe the winter king kept his promise (kind of) and he survived but not Marceline. - I think that's why it's a YOUNG ice Marceline : he never got to see her all grown-up

Maybe Marceline‘s dad found out and tried to kill Simon but he had gone down such a path of grief that he killed marceline’s dad and took the axe as to remember marceline or Ice king got the axe because Marceline’s dad understood that marceline wanted Simon to have it or something

Something that could help the theory of the winter king killing marceline is when Simon asks if there's a Betty in that universe. The winter king shrugs off Betty and just sees her as "the dead one" that he hasn't thought about in a long time. He then goes on to state that Simon can make a new Betty out of ice before he immediately says that would be "unethical." The parallels are very similar. Matceline is dead, so the winter king makes an "unethical" ice version of her. He's being a bit contradictive and hypocritical. It's almost as if he's trying to justify making ice marceline in his head.

My opinion is that Marceline was killed either by oozes or vampires and that's the reason why Simon is so jaded. It'd also explain why he'd create a Marceline as a child. She'd have to die somewhere as a teen as that's when she got her axe (so vampires most likely). This would also explain the absence of humans since Marceline shouldn't have been able to save them.

One thing I noticed, Marshal Lee was quick to call in a favor with his mom to get the lemoncarbs to Gary. But he told Fionna he couldn’t ask a favor from his mom because they were on bad terms

I feel like Ice King wouldn't have come up with the idea of projecting the crown's madness, so maybe there was a little truth in the force of will thing. But that would have been a very temporary solution, so Winter King's first decision was to offload the madness before he lost himself again.

@JoseCruz-kd4nt also I think there are a few factors that lead to this IK being FAR more angry, selfish and devious . It appears the WK was never THAT into "Betties" (if you get my drift) and Marcy's earlier death (seems like it was caused by the oozers going from WK flash back and psychology ) not Mention no fine and Jake. Since he could care less about Betty, he didn't have the princess protocol , so it appears that he spent most of his time trying to stop the crowns voices.

Except PB does genuinely love the Candy People. As hilariously incompetent as the Banana Guards are, she keeps them around despite how little they do to legitimately protect the Candy Kingdom. The only competent Candy People with comparable intellect to her own are Gumbald, Lemongrab, and Peppermint Butler. If anything, Winter King exhibits personality traits more on par with Lemongrab. Still highly intelligent but antisocial. He's a control freak. Everyone in his kingdom is a snow golem that will follow orders without question or a penguin.

My theory is that this world was Marcelines wish. Couple of reasons why, 1. Prismo’s wishes love their monkey paws, especially when they impact the wisher (Finn’s wish turning him into the IK, or BMO stuck as a baby monitor, meaning he can’t interact with his cute baby friends) 2. We never hear any mention of what could have or did happen to Marcy. 3. Last clear memory Simon would have of Marcy wouldn’t be as the vampire queen, but as a young girl. So here’s my theory. A version of Marceline, 100 years before the start of the show, gained access to the time room. She wishes that simon was sane. This gives WK the ability to transfer his madness. Now, what’s a good monkeys paw for a wish like this? That’s right, that the madness is transferred to the other most important person in her life (they may have even been dating). Now, Simons still left with the sadness and the magic, while her girlfriends full on mad.

I can get behind this theory (and omg the bmo baby monitor makes so much sense 🥲) but consider this: it was Betty’s, not marceline’s wish! The monkey’s paw is that Simon doesn’t think of her and laughs when she’s mentioned. He only refers to her as “the dead one,” and we see across the show that it’s really important to Betty that Simon remembers her. (She even pretends to draw out her last words when she’s the virus in the crown because she just wanted Simon to never stop thinking about her). Marceline’s feelings towards Simon and the Ice King were also really complicated I think. I think in the I remember You episode Marceline tells the Ice King that she’s used to moving often because he would come around and bum her out 😭 and she def had abandonment issues about the whole thing idk if she would go out of her way to make a wish with prismo for that, and if she did, I don’t think she would have made it 100 years ago but rather when she was much younger. I think Betty made the wish with prismo last resort before finally resorting to summoning Golb. Betty wishes for a sane Simon but the cost of that wish is that Betty isn’t around to experience it. And the fact that Simon made an ice Marcy and put her in what looks like a pet zoo to remember her and he couldn’t care less about Betty is just salt in the wounds for her. BUT IDK bc how could people make a wish with Prismo and then go on existing in their OG universe and the wish universe or is that just how it works??!!! Lol

When Gary meets Marshall Lee, he grabs a bat on a stick and when they are at Lord Monochromicorn's shop, Marshall is looking at bubblegums. I also saw others point out that Marshall Lee's interest on Gary's Candy Kingdom kind of antiparallels Marceline's song Wake Up in which she sing "I don't really care about your stupid Candy Kingdom"

I personally believe that in the winter kings world, marceline died as a child while still in the apocalypse situation with Simon. This is why we see her in her child form, since that is the last form winter king saw marce as, she never got to grow up. This grief made him “unethically” make an ice version of her, most likely after casting the spell on bubblegum. I don’t think he killed marceline, or if he did it was when she was still a child. Her presence seems to be plain absent in that world, especially since PB doesn’t ask about her after gaining sanity. This might contribute to winter kings state, being less empathetic n stuff. Just thoughts

Its more likely that marcy died very young from the oozers...the "ooze chase" seems to be an important moment to this WK just like for all Simons and in his song that's when he said he "didn't know what to do" . For someone as narcissistic as the WK, the oozers scene is an interesting footnote that he could have EASILY omitted, after all. Its more likely that the WK abandoned a child marcy to her fate out of cowardice only to (perhaps even years) later return and recover the only thing thing that was left of her...

I'm pretty sure Fionna and Cake aren't removing the magic from items. What's happening is simply that items they contact are being converted to equivalent items from their own universe: a combat knife becoming the household butter knife, the hotdog knight becoming a simple hot dog, and the ice crown becoming a mere trinket. It's not so much removing the magic from things as it is being turned into items from a universe where there is no magic.

Am I the only one who instantly saw The Winter King not sharing the voice actor as Simon as foreshadowing that he's changed for the worst after the twist was revealed? Hear me out here. Outside of Fionna & Cake's world, alternate universe versions always share a VA with their main Ooo counterpart. We see this with Farmworld Finn, Winter King world Bubblegum/Candy Queen, and an exception to what I mentioned before with Fionna & Cake, with those lemongrab versions sharing the new voice for regular Lemongrab. But Winter King is the one version who's not who he seems out of these and he's the only one to be casted with a different voice. Coincidence? I think not!

Crazy theory: the ice pince is a remanent of the crown's curse, he doesn't have a crown but the three gems in his outfit. Maybe just as the crown has an eco of it's former users maybe there's an eco of the curse in Simon's head still...

We would be mistaken if we assume Fiona is taking magic away from items. The sword that became a knife wasn't magical to begin with. Instead I believe Fiona and Cake are someone changing things to be in alignment with their home universe. Everything is plane and normal the way it was from Simon's time.

This episode was just about perfect to me, especially with the animation. But the main story and little details really put it above the other episodes for me (although I've loved everything so far). Ellis P squatting in Fiona's apartment got the biggest laugh from me, I'm glad AT can still be goofy at times.

Something I've noticed about this episode is that, if ice king DID exist and simply banished his insanity to Bubblegum, why was Candy Queen so obsessed with him? He didnt seem yo care all too much about Betty, so it doesnt make sense that Bubblegum has a facination with kidnapping any princes or even him. So, Ive come to two theories. Theory one is that Candy Queen's infatuation with being with the winter king is actually because of the crown. He transfered the insanity bit of the crown to Bubblegum, so it seems that perhaps Cany Queen's attwmpts to "unite them" together is a literal way to reunite the powers of the crown. My second theory is that, along with banishing his insanity, Winter King also banished some emotional feelings he had for Betty. I feel like many insane characters are insane because of a huge emotional issue, so tie that together with a pretty bow and ship off a two in one to bubblegum? Makes sense to me. Well we see Candy Queen is obsessed with the Winter King. The Ice King is obsessed with collecting/marrying princesses because of his past with Betty. We know that some aspects of Simons mind along with many of the effects of the crown. I believe that Winter kings timeline plays out the same with Betty and all, and when the spell is cast that turned Ice king into the Winter king it transfers emotional feelings of Betty along with the other main drivers of Ice kings insanity. This is why in the episode the Candy Queen is obsessed with capturing the Winter King and also why the Winter King only remembers Betty as the one "who died". So I mostly agree with the second theory but I don't think he did it on purpose, rather it was a side effect of whatever wish/spell that caused the Ice King to turn in the first place.

The first thing he says is that (this is it, I’ve reached a SUPER INSANE ZONE where I feel like I’m just normal again) maybe this is kinda what happened to Winter King, he still has some of the insanity and memories loss of the crown effect but he feels like he is simply normal

there are 3 things i wonder about regarding this episode 1 - who wished for the Winter King universe? 2 - whoever made the wish, where are they? 3 - how did BMO escape the baby universe? (remember that BMO met Shermy & Beth) and we saw thanks to Finn's wish & Wyatt's wish, the characters who make the wish, are transported to the new universe Finn was only able to 'escape' due to Jake's wish

i didn't notice all the small details in the similarities between the winter king's kingdom and princess bubblegum's candy kingdom, that's actually really clever. i also don't think the ice prince will actually show up in the series as a real person, i think he was just a manifestation of fionna's escapist fantasies and this whole ep was kind of showing her why doing that can be problematic, so i think the ice prince was just a foreshadowing of winter king...in the first episode ice prince turned into her alarm clock that woke her up and snapped her back to reality, and in a similar way winter king also snapped her out of her escapist fantasy and brought her back down to reality

One thing i thought about, the way fiona takes the magic out of the crown reminds me of when simon was inside golb, maybe some of golbs "magic removal" is still lingering inside simons mind which would explain why fiona and cake can remove magic, because they are from inside simons mind

Regular Princess Bubblegum already has some issues. Now combine that with the craziness from the crown and you'll have the super crazy Candy Queen. The original Ice King (Simon + crown) is crazy but not as crazy as the Candy Queen.

I've mentioned this on other videos but I really think part of why Winter King doesn't care about Betty could be that he actually did watch her die. Remember in the main world Betty disappeared because she hopped to the Future when Belle Noche was taking magic away. This leads to Simon/Ice King never knowing what happened to her and therefore dwelling on it for a thousand years and capturing Princesses because he called Betty his princess. But if Winter King became Winter King 100 years ago it's probable that the Belle Noche event never occurred, Betty never made it to the future, and we're left with this universe with a Simon who doesn't care as much because that obsession is gone.

My theory was that Marceline died as a child which was what the difference is between Simon and the Winter King, which is probably why ice Marceline was a child and not a teenager. I could be wrong but it was what popped in my head at the time.

Regarding your theory on Marcaline, I think it is mostly true but I don't think the Winder King has it in him to actually kill Marcaline. I could see Marcy either running away after PB goes insane, Winter King banishing her somewhere or even Marcy just cutting contact with Winter King and living somewhere alone in his kingdom.

My theory on why there is a ice Marcy is somewhat different. When Simon was starting to go insane my the crown, he left Marcy to protect her, maybe in this universe Simon never left and he eventually became the Ice King. Then, because he forgotten about who Marcy was and she might had made him angry, he could have killed her with his magic. Once he became the Winter King, he probably made a ice version of Marcy, which makes sense on why this ice version of her is still a kid.

I also think they're playing with this idea of Ice King's power. Think about it, Winter King can just make their phone multiversal? Simon even said a few eps ago that if he were Ice King, he could take care of a whole army of guys like The Scarab. I think they're teeing up Ice Prince as what our Simon may become, and that his power level is way higher than we ever knew it was in the OG Adventure Time, which imo is kinda cool.

Well, it's the multiverse. It can be possible. The rules may be different and theoretical. I did enjoy CQ and the introduction with her and the Winter King. Creating a mythical pull to this world. Even though it was cut short and later revealed due to being an episode. The problem remains it can't just go unnoticed. As Fiona, Cake, and Simon broke the narrative timeline they were in. Prismo Boss or others might have to split the timeline in two to keep the Spinoff forward. Letting the original timeline exist without the Fiona and Cake crossover event. Then again this is a theory. These realities have potential. Thanks to anyone who reads this.

The thing about Winter King is that he's done one confirmed very, very evil thing. He's transferred his own madness to someone else. That's wrong. But consider: Princess Bubblegum did very questionable things throughout her life. She spied on her subjects, used them for experiments, and of course the whole "intentionally trapping her family in less intelligent minds so they didn't hurt her" thing. Is Peebs evil for what she's done? If not, why is she good but Winter King is evil? An interesting moral question, isn't it?

I think he was telling the truth when he said he had overcome the crown with his mind, just not to the extent that he initially implied. Remember, the crown also erases your memories and ambitions. For him to even recognize the perilous nature of his insanity, he would need some sort of push, and what would be the perfect push? Self-realization. I think through will power alone he did in fact resist the crown, but only to the extent that he could realize the necessity of curing his own madness.

I think all ties into the cosmic imagination. Having two entities that are imaginated, tough, cancels out the magic. I also think this is a metaphor of growing up. When we are young, we can imagine whole worlds. As we grow older, that imagination gets reduced.

Ice Marcy could be that Marcalene died young by the Oozers. We see in Winter King's flashback song him and young Marcy being jumped by Oozers, maybe after that incident, Marcy unfortunately perished (He couldn't find that chicken noodle soup. 😥 ). That might explain why Winter King remade her as Marcy and not Marcalene, there is no adult version of her for him to think up of when recreating her, all he had was her as a child.

My theory is that Shoko was the one to “introduce” Marceline and Princess Bubblegum. Marceline used to live in the treehouse, and Shoko died with PB’s amulet, so PB could’ve met Marceline while looking for the amulet. Since Fionna is an alternate universe Finn, and Finn is Shoko’s reincarnation, this tracks.

What's cool is that when Ice King was insane he looked for Betty through princesses who would eventually cure him. Candy Queen looked for the Winter Prince and in her song she says "the recipe is true. the key ingredient is you" perhaps meaning that in her crazed state she was looking for a cure through him. One way would be killing him, hence the eventual "escalation"

This episode made me theorize on how the Season might end I can see it ending in a massive cliffhanger where Simon saves Fionna and Cake by giving them the remote before Scarab catches him, with Fionna and Cake ending in the land of OOO and the Remote possibly breaking or something, the Buttons not working, and now they need to find a way to save Simon and their universe that is inside his head

My theory is I think Simon slightly misunderstood the curse. It didn't transfer "the madness of the crown" but rather "things Ice King didn't like about himself" -- that is, being stupid, depressed, obsessed with Betty and princesses, weak, etc. So you get Winter King who is always cheerful and smart and super powerful but also still loopy and total sociopath. Not actually "sane". I don't think anything diverged before the curse. Marcy definitely didn't die as a child because she didn't get her bass until she was a teen. Probably she got in a fight with him because of what an evil thing he did, and he made a little Marcy because "that's back when she liked me".

(seen in 32:06) Also a cool detail that I could've just overthinked; Fionna's laying in that baby's chair (idk what the word is in english) and at the top of her head we can see 3 objects hanging: • A cube with the letters BA • A small plastic Duck • a toy with the shape of a virus Guess what the first letter of duck is: letter D. If we put some creativity on, we can form the phrase: BAD Virus, foreshadowing what the antagonist says: Fionna and cake are a mistake, a virus for other universes of some form

If the Winter King killed Marcy 100 years ago, she's still be adult sized. I think this is the universe where Simon never managed to get the chicken soup for young Marcy. She died from her sickness, there was no Hambo so no time portal bringing Betty forward in time so she's just dead to and Ice King is totally and completely alone and detached and jaded so he makes up the curse for Bubblegum

I've got a theory on why the Ice Marcie is there and why she's in that room alone. It's possible that Marceline died during sometime while Simon and her were escaping from all the mutant guys. It likely caused him to become even more mad and unhinged. I think it makes sense because Winter King's statement about Simon making an Ice Betty makes more sense if it's to recapture something precious that was lost. But it's unethical and unhealthy. Which leads me to the room itself, which I think is to keep her safe and hidden. I also think this works for why there is no Finn and Jake in this universe, since Marceline wouldn't have been able to protect and guard the humans the way she had, leading to there being either less of them or humans dying out.
