I was joined by two young Israelis-Einat Gerlitz, who spent 87 days in prison for refusing to enlist in the Israel Defense Forces, and Iddo Elam, a 17-year-old draft resister who will go to prison this summer after he graduates from high school.

I am so impressed by their integrity, sense of justice and fairness, wisdom and intelligence. Imagine if half of the population in Israel is that fair minded and able to see other “groups” in the same way they view their own families. The fact that Israel is becoming more right wing is really depressing and so very sad. I am of mix Jewish/Muslim background and had always thought that one day there would be Israel where everyone (Christians, Jews, Muslims, Druze, theists, atheists, Buddhists and so on) is treated equally as a citizen of Israel, and where religions are private and irrelevant in civil matters. Now, I am not sue if that vision is still viable within the next decade or even beyond that. Violence has always led to more violence, especially when the conditions feel helpless and hopeless. Thank you guys for this fantastic conversation. I admire your bravery and compassion.

Random comment or remark but they are both so handsome. Israel is such a mystical beautiful place! I hate what is happening…. Not fair to the Palestinians, and not fair to Israelis who aren’t part of a messianic obsession that is ruining this beautiful place that can be home for everyone living there…. It is that simple 😞
