CNN's Laura Coates speaks with Dakota Adams, the son of Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, about his upbringing and his new mission to run for office in Montana. #CNN #News
it seems like he sees the MAGA politicians as doing the same, using fear as a means of control and holding people hostage at the threat of shutting it all down. It looks all too familiar to his upbringing
He's level-headed, and well-spoken. He actually answers questions. I wish him luck, but the system isn't kind to intelligent people who have integrity.
Can't believe he is part of of that man. You can't choose who your parents are but you can do something about your own life. I hope he wins the seat. Bravo!
This is why decent people avoid stepping up to public office and why we have such a mess now. Only the grifter, the immoral, the narcissists, the crazies will put themselves through what it takes to be in public service. If we don't fix this, nothing will ever change. We need people of courage and character.
@@virginiamoss7045And we need decorum back in government. People who can behave themselves while the president is making a state of the union speech. And politicians who don't dance around questions.
I'd like to know if any of the older, decent, experienced congresspersons, like Jamie Raskin or Sherrod Brown, ever mentor young startups like Dakota. That would help.
I fully agree. However, after this race I do hope he finds a district where he can win. In 2020 the Democrat only got 29%. If he can get more than that, then he's truly showed his potential.
Thank you to oath keeper's son for speaking out the truth 🙏 God bless him 🙏 💙. I adore his courage coming out speaking out about his father. God bless him 🙏 ❤️ VOTE 🗳 💙 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
One look at the guy and you think "In Montana? No way!". Then you listen to him talk for about 1 minute and you're ready to campaign for him. This is the exact young voice of honesty and integrity we need today.
This is why we say don't judge a book by it's cover. Dee Snider dressing in full glam for congress was one of the biggest flexes in the history of congress.
Very strong comment , thanks, it makes him credible to a group of voters who can relate....than as he opens his mouth, it s all clear, well spoken, relatable and genuinely lived through it...huge respect. Hope democrats recognize the huge value of this strong and opinionated young man..keep the looks bro
@@ChrisTopherBunnell For whatever it's worth, I draw a huge difference between those who decided to go into Iraq and continue the war in Iraq and those who served there. I very must disagree with that war and think it was wrong. I have zero issue with those who served there. I hope you are able to find some inner peace.
My brother moved to MT for its beauty and left due to its far right conservatism. From CO and couldn’t bear to see how the far right politics there will destroy the freedoms Americans should have w/o authoritarianism
I applaud Laura Coates for letting this man speak without interruption, and asking some very pointed and respectful questions and letting him answer them to his satisfaction. It helps that he was also very respectful and well spoken, but I applaud the kind of journalism.
Now, think long & hard... When was the last time you've heard ANYONE in "politics" speak this clearly, to-the-point, matter-of-fact, well-thought-out, level-headed, and sincerely? About ANYTHING? We need NORMAL PEOPLE IN POLITICS. Kudos to you, Dakota and may the wind fill your sails.
Jamie Raskin, Katie Porter... there are others. The Democrats have some incredible people... but you've got people like MTG and Boebert drowning them out. Jasmine Crockett-total rock star. And a lawyer. She makes the Republican windbags look like total idiots. Well, they do well enough on their own.

@@KMc-cw3qt.. You are absolutely right because for like the first few seconds I judged him. Then he started talking and I was impressed. What can I say.. I'm old. :-)
i'm proud of Dakota. As a 68 year old, I look to his generation to bring transformation -- its courageous to speak up, stand up. I wish you all the success Dakota.
I'm also a baby boomer. We have to look at Dakotas generation to pick up where we left off. Unfortunately there's a little gap there but these kids can do it. They have so much to lose if they don't stand up and speak up like we did.
I can tell you one thing. I have been a classroom teacher for over 20 years. These kids will absolutely not tolerate any of this shit. Every single school morning I unlock my classroom door to prepare future historians, journalists, soldiers, ... They will NOT put up with it!
@libertyinperil520There's nothing wrong with his necklace just because your crybaby religion hates everyone who is different from you. His compassion is far superior in morality to your bigotry.
@libertyinperil520 they way your christian politicians have been behaving in politics the last handful of decades (and probably longer), is making the pentagram slowly emerging as the symbol the cross once was in Roman times
Dakota Adams has clearly had a very chaotic upbringing. He’s stopping the cycle of the abuse he endured as a child. Good for him!! He’s well spoken, intelligent and a man who truly understands, respects and cares about our country. Let Dakota be our country’s change! I choose Dakota Adams! Thank you Dakota for trying to make a difference- Montana is a very fortunate State to have him.
As a Montanan, I couldn't agree more. I hope he makes it to D.C. to represent Montana someday. He is exactly what this state needs: young, intelligent and fully aware and knowledgeable.
Wow! Talk about overcoming adversity! This young man appears to be the embodiment of “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” There is a lot to respect there.
This young man is a symbol of hope for the country's future. He's very intelligent, honest, and has directed his life towards benefitting the people of Montana. I hope he wins.
I doubt the people there will see him as someone they will want to vote for but maybe I am wrong. I hope they do choose him. He has a lot to offer the voters. He's an admirable young man.
I like it when I'm proved wrong. I wasn't intending to watch this interview, but my finger bumped it, so I figured, what the heck. I'm impressed with this young man. He is well spoken, answers hard questions without name calling or a bunch of excuses. His Mama should be proud. She raised an upright young man, in what sounds like abusive terror....making it even more impressive! Keep talking, Dakota! I appreciate you!
Spot-on - this young man is a shining star who deserves the best break possible - even if he does not win the election perhaps he his star will rise with somebdy employing him in a position of responsibility - he has the makings of a real leader.
He is not the hope you are looking for. He's been through hell since birth and he is not mentally stable enough to save himself, let alone others. No shade, but it's just the truth.
This made me tear up with empathy and sadness for Dakota and all the other children who were and are still stuck in these cults. I hope he gets his message out and that he makes a difference in Montana, a state that I love.
But is he though? To be fair, all he has done is say words on tv. Pretend hitler had a son. Imagine his son also said words on tv. Would you consider hitler's son a good soul simply because he said things only AFTER daddy faced the consequences for his criminal actions? 30 years of no protest whatsoever. Not one public statement condemning the crimes committed by daddy dearest. Not even a whisper as daddy was actively committing his crimes. Now, completely out of the blue, suddenly he claims to be opposed to what he was raised to think and believe. People have said the words "Earth is flat" despite ALL objective evidence proving an oblate spheroid. Saying words is NOT what renders one a patriot. Saying words is NOT what makes ANYONE a qualified, trustworthy candidate for US president. Action, what a person does/has done is what makes both a patriot and a qualified presidential candidate. Which is why our military heroes are determined by action and not spoken words. The defendant said A LOT of words. STILL says a LOT of words every day. He is still not a qualified nor trustworthy candidate for president. The day Jr proves himself through action that he is about We the People and our Constitution, is the day we can start placing value on the words he speaks. Until that day, he has been far too close for far too long, without any apparent objection from him the entire time. Too young to hold the position, and only has words to offer at this time. We need more than words. At least Biden had a minimum of 8 years of actual on the job experience before he even ran for the position. That is much more than anyone can say about the former and this kid combined.
Imagine that this young man has lived a horrendous life with a father who is a nutcase and he is well spoken, educated, and has a great voice. I'm very impressed. A college professor of psychology and neuroscience here, and damn, I would kill to have folks like him in my classroom and in office.
@@theduder2617Apparently you weren’t listening to what he said. He was mentally and physically abused for decades by his “father”. Now that he finally feels free from that trauma he’s willing to speak up. Duh.
Definition of an actual patriot. Personal accountability and integrity to "walk the walk" instead of just shouting into the void, the morality to know the ends don't justify the means, and the courage to fight for what's right even when it scares you. Much respect Dakota, I'm rooting for you and if I lived in your state you'd have my vote!
Imagine the intelligence and bravery it takes to have the upbringing he had and come out with such a humane and articulate view of everything. Super impressive guy, I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.
I am a big tough battle tested grown ass man who suffered and overcame childhood truama inflicted by both my parents.Listening to this young gentlemans story I just started crying and couldn't stop. Good luck my brother. You are an intelligent, well mannered and resilient young man. I wish you every success
The fact that he’s so eloquent, but yet was true to himself & wore his leather jacket with all its patches & kept his hair down, shows what you see is what you get. I like that he’s keeping it real. Much respect to you, Dakota! I hope you win the seat you’re running for. This gives me hope for the future. We need more like him!
I don't know that I trust him. I would feel really stupid to see photos of him in a Natzi outfit posing with his dad in 5 years after he's been a member of the us house for a year.

An absolutely brilliant and courageous young man. I used to be a resident in Sanders County MT and still love that state with all my heart. I would still be there if it weren’t for the politics spiraling out of control into the extremes of hatred. I applaud what this smart young man is doing and pray for his success in bringing the good state of Montana to a balance of beauty and democracy. This is an incredible story worthy of so much more attention around the nation to inspire more like him. Thank you Dakota for offering hope and help to others in your community despite your personal trauma that would otherwise bury most people. You are a pure example of brave patriotism that should be supported and celebrated.
Well done Laura Coates for letting Adams speak at his own pace without interruption. I don't think I've seen many interviews where the interviewee was allowed to do his level best to directly and thoughtfully answer questions. Great job the both of you!
I agree. It's refreshing to have a host who actually lets the guest speak, without interruptions, usually some inane remark. Lawrence O'Donnell is the only other person I've seen who has the courtesy to let his guests speak freely.
I will say that often people come on these programs to repeat the messagae and just talk in circles, most of them aren't able to articulate answers to the questions and just change the subject mid answer. He is able to articulate himself, even if he pauses every so often to collect his thoughts, so it is easier to let him talk than to just shut him up as he talks in circles as most politicians do. It shows he is answering in good faith, and the host is listening.
It is so refreshing to see someone young like this and ready to make a difference for the people, not just a select group that want to call themselves the people.
How the Nazis Were Inspired by DEMOCRAT Jim Crow. To craft legal discrimination, the Third Reich studied the DEMOCRATS. In 1935, Nazi Germany passed two radically discriminatory pieces of legislation inspired by American laws: the Reich Citizenship Law and the Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honor. Together, these were known as the Nuremberg Laws, and they laid the legal groundwork for the persecution of Jewish people during the Holocaust and World War II. When the Nazis set out to legally disenfranchise and discriminate against Jewish citizens, they weren’t just coming up with ideas out of thin air. In particular, Nazis admired the DEMOCRAT Jim Crow-era laws that discriminated against Black Americans and segregated them from white DEMOCRATS, and they debated whether to introduce similar segregation in Germany. Yet they ultimately decided that it wouldn’t go far enough. “One of the most striking Nazi views was that DEMOCRAT Jim Crow was a suitable racist program in the United States because American Blacks were already oppressed and poor,” he says. “But then in Germany, by contrast, where the Jews (as the Nazis imagined it) were rich and powerful, it was necessary to take more severe measures.”
Dakota Adams. Noted- this is a smart young man I'll be keeping an eye on. This is a great way to present your patriotism instead of taking a backseat. And Laura Coates- thank you so much for allowing this man the space to speak on a wide stage and not interrupting, but instead letting him answer and letting us hear. SO many interviewers see themselves as needing to get a "moment" in every interview, when in reality, the audience is trying to get information. You did a stellar job of letting us hear this man out and decide on our own if we agree with him or not. Great job to them both.
It takes an incredible amount of bravery and self-assurance to speak out against your own family and your own father I wish you so much luck and considering the life that you grew up in and the people that surrounded you watch your back
Dakota, you are a brave young man and you show integrity, intelligence and compassion for ordinary citizens. I wish you success in your run for office.
