The soldiers in Halo: Reach is actually the first time we got to see the UNSC Army.

The Navy and UNSC Marines get most of the budget in the Halo future apparently

Spartan IIs appear to adhere to the UNSC Navy rank structure, and considering their close relationship with ONI Section 3 that makes sense. Furthermore the Spartan IIIs were primarily divided into four companies, of which most held Navy ranks, such as Petty Officer. However, there was one notable exception, Noble Team, who were part of the UNSC Army Special Warfare Group Three, held Army ranks, such as Commander, Lieutenant Commander, Warrant Officer, and Lieutenant.

In the lore Spartans listened to higher ups from all branches. In the fall of reach red team (made of Spartan 2s)was sent to reach to defend a orbital defense generator. A naval chief of operations sent a destress call saying they needed evac. Fred (Navy, sp2, LT jr grade)acknowledged and the chief told them to come to assist. Fred even said “they couldn’t jus disobey a direct order from a higher up and sent a strike team to retrieve them. That was on a ground op not in space or on a ship. Spartan Kurt (Navy,LT COM ,Spartan 2) was order by a army colonel to come with him to over view the Spartan 3 programme(orchestrated by ONI). He said that since he was a higher up rank then him he would tech still have to listen to him as long as it didn’t over ride his previous orders. And in halo reach noble 6 (spartan lll)was a LT, Carter (sp 3) was a commander, Emile (sp3) a warrant officer, Kat(sp3) a LT commander , jun(sp3) a warrant officer and jorge (sp 2) a chief warrant officer. All where officially navy but listened to a colonel until ONI switched commands over to dr Halsey (ONI) (Those r the most notable of the Spartans) it’s confusing at first but it’s cool 😂💯

Shame we dont know much about the army and airforce. Marines, spartans, and odst's usualy the main focus of series. I love the odst's as they are my favorite in halo but i think we need see more of the army and airforce in the games.

Should note that prior to the Spartan 4s the Spartans were directly under and apart of O.N.I and were given naval ranks.

You sure Spartans are not apart of the more navy side considering master Chief is a spartan??? His title is Master Chief petty officer John 117, you talk of spartan commander and all that it reminds me of the modern day navy how we have ATTWO and watch commanders and things of the sort. I wonder if in 300 years we will have spartan type of armor? Our Government... Well multiple Government's around the world are probably doing human experiments so who knows. I also want to know. Why don't the US military make helmets like in Halo? Having a HUD in the right corner of your helmet would probably prove pretty useful in combat.

Interestingly, the Air Force are also responsible for maintianing and operating Orbital Defense Platforms. Though they're technically in space, they're still in orbit of a planet and so the Air Force handles them. Same with Orbital Ship Yards. They are within Orbit, so they operate security and defence of these orbital structures

Actually some fun facts about the UNSC Air Force is that many of their pilots and combat personnel are actually trained in boarding actions. Take this with a grain of salt because I read this in an article YEARS ago so my memory may be fuzzy; but in the Halo Reach Missions where you’re piloting the Sabre the other pilots are UNSC Air Force personnel and the pilots that board with you are also Air Force. Now for the crew that come on with Jorge I’ve read and heard from conflicting sources that they’re either Air Force or Army.

You forgot Sergeant Major in the Marines enlisted ranks A.J. Johnson was a Marine Sergeant Major in the games.

What about the Spartan Branch? They turned it into it's own Branch I think in the times of Halo 4 beyond.

What always bothered me was seeing Captain Keyes rank on his uniform as a captain in the Marines/Army Officer rank structure. That Captain is an 0-3. It would have made a lot more sense to have his rank symbol as the Naval Officer Captain, which is what he was, and is an O-6. Silver bird instead of the 2 silver bars.

Maybe some day Earth seeks to expand and Mars society doesn't like or does like and seeks to pull Earth to elevated stabdards of living... Thats where possibly US SPACE FORCE MARINES/ SEALS / SF ect might be placed....I guess at first as clandestine missions to settle some base camps and recon squads, to evaluate what the others can do.

The UNSC uses the UNICOM Ranking structure for all planetary defense forces. Not the US Military ranks.

It will be year 2500. I would be very proud if the weakest unsc marine is as badass as 2000 best soldiers. It would be nice if there would be marine commandos(not odst). With different armor. And stealth marines. Or heavy marines. Or special ops. I would definitely play a halo game as a marine with squad members or solo

The Army and Airforce are so marginalized by this game and it makes no sense. First off the Army by the 26th Century would have adapted its mission to space operations and would have had assests created for that new domain just like now in the 21st Century, multi domain operations and awareness. The Airforce since it comes from the Army would have been returned to the Army (the Tactical Operations and aircraft) that way the would pick up capital ship assets for Tactical Transport Assault and logistics, why? Because the Airforce in reality would be the go to force for space warfare and operations, not the Navy which represents ocean warfare, hence the Air and Space Force, the Army and Navy would have their own Space assets especially the Navy, for example as the Army Space Force and the Navy Space Force . NASA would still play a part in exploration and security being that by then it would perform the same functions as DHS DOJ NOAA and NASA to include the creation of space Colonies and other Orbital development projects . I don't know how Bungie or 343 Industries overlooked something so simple, the Army would evolve the Airforce would evolve and no other agencies that deals with security and defense would take a backseat to the Navy and Marines! This is one of many aspects of Halo that doesn't make any sense,the other being how is it that in the 25th and 26th Centuries Army Marine Militia Police Security etcetera is still being outfitted with chemical based projectiles and 21st Century PPE/Gear when currently in the 21st Century Powered Exoskeletons DEW weapons Coil and Rail guns and AI are in use or in late development stage to be manufactured or prototype just think of Call of Duty Advance Warfare and Infinite Warfare not to mention Ghost Recon, so by the 25th and 26th Century many if not all of those aforementioned technologies would be standard issue for the Armed forces and for Public Safety , just saying, how can you build a 4.4km long Super Carrier but can not create powered exoskeletons that would cost Super low to the price of a Punic!? Also how in the sam hill do Mjolnir cost the same as a Paris Class Heavy Frigate, that makes no sense,wow! Come on Bungie and 343
