Unseen Before! British Army and the French Duo Changing of the Guard Rehearsal for Historic Event tomorrow 8thn April, 2024
France is to become the first non-Commonwealth country to take part in the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Monday 8 April 2024, the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale.
In preparation for this historic event, The French Gendarmerie Nationale have been rehearsing at Wellington Barracks in London with soldiers from the British Army’s Household Division.
The Band of the Grenadier Guards and F Company Scots Guards trained alongside them today in readiness for Monday’s anniversary.
120 years ago the historic diplomatic agreement between Britain and France laid the groundwork for our nations’ collaboration in both world wars.
Personnel from the Gendarmerie’s Garde Républicaine and the British Army’s Scots Guards will spend the weekend together as part of the cultural exchange, and after the rehearsals today could not resist swapping headgear!

Both armies have been shoulder to shoulder through many extreme severe hardships. I have worked more than a decade with French officers and I can tell that there is, in the French Army, a deep sense of respect for our British comrades-in-arms.

quite a history between these 2 great countries - research it - The actual ceremonies on April Monday 8th will see British guards take part in the changing of the guard outside the Elysee Palace of President Emmanuel Macron, and his French guards do the same outside Buckingham Palace in London of King Charles III. the central states of France and England, later Britain, fought 41 wars against each other between the first Anglo-French War in 1109 and the Hundred Days in 1815. On average that's a war every 17.3 years. In total France won 24 wars, England/Britain won 11 and 6 were a tie. The Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) was a series of conflicts fought between England and France over succession to the French throne. It lasted 116 years and saw many major battles - from the battle of Crécy in 1346 to the battle of Agincourt in 1415, which was a major English victory over the French.

A reciprocal event is being staged earlier the same day in Paris at the Elysee Palace with No.7 Company Coldstream Guards and attended by French President Emmanuel Macron. It's a public Anglo-French diplomatic event to mark the 120 anniversary of the Anglo-French Entente Cordiale. The French contingent practicing in the forecourt of B.P. are with the Garde Républicaine, the military group responsible for law enforcement, security and ceremonial duties at national palaces in Paris. Basically it's a parade and a troop review; the Garde Républicaine won't be doing guard duty at B.P. That is a privilege restricted to select members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces.

The French contingent did not perform any public duties. They did not at any moment guard The King nor any of the Royal Palaces. They were participating in a march past . Just to clarify.

@@composimmonite3918 Maybe because the British government and British taxpayer have been giving the French government hundreds of millions of pounds over the past several years to try and help with the problem at their end but there is something fishy going on anyway. If the British try and turn the boats around that'd be called a anti-humanitarian crime, met with endless screeching at home and abroad, and if the Royal Navy enter French territorial waters the French could get quite upset about it (and vice-versa) But the thing is, the British taxpayer literally does spend several tens of millions of pounds per year on the issue and nothing is happening. French ships do handovers with British ships in the middle of the English Channel. It's like a ferry service now. The British taxpayer's money is mostly being spent on completely different things, it's a scam. Please do not interpret this as me being argumentative or unreasonable, I am just answering your rather strongly put question to the person whom commented. It is absolutely beyond doubt that the situation is only getting worse and all the French have done is pretend to want to stop the problem. Clearly, the French don't want the migrants milling around in Calais etc either so they will actively try and nudge them into the UK. However, illegal NGO's from _both_ the UK and France are flying in the face of the will of the public and aiding and abetting the human trafficking and subversion of British border enforcement, as well as flouting our nation openly. There are a lot of middle-class activists involved, whom don't care about Britain or France, whom just want infinity migrants to make themselves feel noble and righteous. If the British and French governments really wanted to stop it they could overnight. But they won't. Go figure. All this Entente Cordiale stuff is lovely and everything and I approve of it strongly, as it's historically important and should be upheld, however, inevitably the political realities of the current era are unavoidable.

The French are smart but not too disciplined. They keep turning their heads and twitching plus they need hands on shoulder to determine standing distance, British troops never need this.

Its important to note that the french unit that will be partaking is from the Garde Républicaine of the Gendarmerie, They're trained in both Civil and Military Policing and serve in a real security role, they're trained to look around and take note, similar to how the Foot and Horse Guards acted before their security duties were taken from them by Armed Police
