Many years ago I shared the first video of Aito Iguchi at 11 years old that went viral racking up 2 million views! Here's some more jaw dropping highlights from the young Japanese boy that is growing hockey over in Japan, especially in his home town of Saitama.

Before the "look at the competition" comments roll in, please remember that hockey is not nearly as big over in Japan. The story of Aito Iguchi isn't about how he is the best player in the world for his age. The story of Aito Iguchi is about how a kid who grew up in Saitama, Japan where hockey is not big at all and resources and competition is scarce, Aito was able to do A LOT with the little he was given. So to any kid in North America or any other nation where hockey is big, please remember to use your resources. Do the best you can with what you have. Love the game. Work hard and always think about ways that you can be better.

Yeah the competition is not strong at all, but Aito looks like he’s barely even trying and he’s destroying the other players. Definitely a special player, hope he gets drafted in the near future

@pnshr88
@pnshr88 4 года назад
This kid is definitely legit. I mean just watching him, irregardless of opponent competition, his skill package is immense. His skating skills include strong power bursts and strides coupled with precision footwork and cutting skills that feel like butter. He usually attacks from his off wing and seems to favor his backhand which is very powerful and extremely well controlled. Yet his forehand and slapshot aren't any less dangerous a threat. And if that wasn't enoug he also has amazing hockey sense/vision and soft hands that find open teammates anywhere on the ice. If he continues to excel and market himself correctly, I don't care who owns the records, they will be broken. I mean can you imagine, a young boy that comes from a country where professional sports aren't as predominant except for maybe Baseball and Sumo Wrestling, becomes a Legend. What dreams are made of.

For the age the competition looks pretty good but even if it could be better you can't take away this kids edge control on his skates, his heads up stick handling and his being able to roof a backhand quickly at that age! He represented Japan at the U-20 World Juniors this year and did almost as good as Yu Sato who is one year older, and has been playing in leagues with tougher competition like the QMJHL. The concern for teams is probably size, because Yu Sato has a solid frame (5'10, 165) meanwhile, Aito is (5'3, 110). That's the hurdle Aito is going to have to prove to teams, that he can adapt with a lack of size and experience. Cause, if he gets that spot on a USHL/CHL roster, I wouldn't be surprised if he would turn into a decent NHL prospect.

Kushiro has a population of 180,000 yet has 5 rinks that are open 12 months a year with outstanding youth programs mostly run by ex-pros who know what they're doing. Our program in Saitama was designed by Vasili Pervukhin who played on the great Soviet teams of the 1980s. Saitama is a prefecture just north of Tokyo and has only one rink, despite the fact that our kids could only practice 3 times a week, our program produced 4 players who were drafted in to major junior programs in North America last year. So, even where there is a paucity of resources the Japanese are astute and dedicated practitioners of whatever they focus their efforts on.

it is also the best way for those kids to get better, to be on the ice with a kid that much better than them. Invaluable.

The videos don’t show off defensive plays but you can still tell he’s smart in a hockey sense. If he’s half as good at d as he is offensively this kid is a top 5 pick easy

That kid has skill and he’s not selfish like a lot of ppl that have skill bc they think they can use all their skill and not give anyone else a chance to get a goal he could’ve scored so many times but he decides to pass it

At times, I found myself rewinding to see how the defenders weren’t even able to poke check him as he seemed to stickhandle through one on ones and two on one defense.

obviously this kid didn’t play good competition at his age level, but we’ve all seen him now, and he really knows how to play the game very well, especially again very skilled teams
