I think it was a fantasy/early sci-fi book written by a woman because they wouldn't have had access to traditional education at the time. So I imagine a nun or someone like this spending her days inventing new plants and methods. Even trying to figure out a new language because women weren't allowed to write. This makes the most sense to me but others from a different lens might see things differently. That is what is cool about it! A true mystery and I hope someone solves it one day!
