I recently took a tour of the university I will be attending to earn my Bachelors in Japanese starting this fall: the University of North Texas in Denton! I am excited to have the opportunity to meet individuals with similar academic interests. Thanks to my parents for being so supportive and to God for providing me with all the things I need to make my dreams a reality :)

I just came across your video just now. I am an old Alumni from UNT and graduated back in the 90s. My experience and education at UNT has afforded me opportunities that have led to global responsibilities across Europe, Middle East, Asia, and South America. Currently, I am a global head with plants in Europe and America. Best of luck in your endeavors.

Let me just say first off how amazing and helpful your video is! It was nice seeing the campus through your video because I might never get to see UNT in person (quarantine life) until I make a decision about where I wanna go. This is so different from virtual tours and aerial views of the campus bc at first I thought the campus might be too big and intimidating, but the way you talked about it and filmed just reassured me that I could potentially go there. Thanks!

Graduated from UNT in 2019. Denton, TX is definitely underrated as a college town. I grew up in Fort Worth. TX and wanted to stay in the area for college so for me it was between UNT and TCU. After visiting Denton, the choice couldn’t have been easier.

Wow, thanks for sharing, that was a walk down memory lane for me. I was a freshman at UNT in 2005 and lived in Denton for 3 years(eventually transferring to Texas Tech because I had a little too much fun in Denton lol). But, that was really cool seeing how the campus looks today, so much has changed! The rec center, believe it or not, was brand new when I was there, but everything else I hardly recognized. So one of your Japan videos showed up on my homepage about the prefectures, and I thought it was really good so I checked out your channel and it led me to this video. I've been living in Japan for the past 10 plus years and still keep in touch with my Japanese friends I met my freshman year at UNT. Actually the most recent video on my channel is with a friend of mine I met over 16 years ago in Denton. But anyways, just wanted to say hello and nice kimestu no yaiba pillows lol よろしくねー

What a time to be a NTSU student. I'm a former one time stint resident of West Hall, three stint resident of Clark Hall.......and two stint student at Kerr Hall. Holy Moly. The worst thing about Kerr Hall was the Mean Green Football team occupied floors 2, 3, and 4. They would lose the Friday night football game and come back to the dorm and beat the crap out of the two elevators. Sooooo.....no elvators for the weekend. I was in room 838.......yup, 8th floor. The good news circa 1974-1975 school year, Kerr Hall room and board was $522.00 per semester. The food court was open from 6:30am through 6:30pm. All you had to do was show your meal ticket I.D. and dine. You could go in for breakfast, breakfast again, lunch, lunch again, and dinner, or just show the I.D. in the middle of the day and get a glass of milk, or go in and make a cold cut sandwich, come back 20 minutes and grab some desert. It was all included and it was cheap cheap cheap. I'm kind of sad to see the Quadrangles music buildings are now the Bidrangle music buildings. That was my practice room. Chilton Hall has been modernized....cool. The old music building at Ave C and Chestnut was finally condemned in 1973 when a piano fell through the second floor. Kind of a wake up call. It was pretty spooky to play there. Most of the church organ flutes were gone and had been looted by then too. My class may have been the last one to play there. ohhhhhhh

How much would it cost you in total for this study? Including going on dorms, travel expenses, food etc. Could you give some estimates? Your parents will probably pay for this, that's why they were silent lol? I'm from The Netherlands so I'm kinda curious how it compares to here. Pretty much all studies here on public universities have the same tuition fee per year, only medicine studies are higher afaik. For 2019-2020 it's €2083 and for 20-21 it's €2143. Rentingcosts of a studentroom is like €300-350 a month I guess in most cities and surroundings and average roomsize. Probably apart from Amsterdam for crappy room like 1,5x more. And food maybe €120-200 a month depending on the person (some people are outgoing and like to spend (waste lol) their money on lunching at a hippie place multiple times a week). Travel expenses are pretty much slim to none as students here get free-public transit card all across the country. And if you successfully finish college with a diploma then all the costs are basically a gift from the govt as they give you the money to study, well the bulk of it atleast. Otherwise you have to pay it all back. Average debt for old students who didn't finish education is around 30K I believe, it was on the news the other day as it's a political topic lately (again!) because they keep changing/stricting the rules every few years and there ofcourse are the students and studentunion protesting because getting higher education is starting to become something more for the rich as costs become higher and higher.
@SarahLovesJapan
@SarahLovesJapan 4 года назад
For the first 2 years of school, I had no tuition fees because my dad was in the US military, and his children are gifted a certain amount of hours in college for free (paid by the government, or I guess the military). I had to pay for materials and for my books which are usually $200 a semester. I live at home so I had no dorm fees, just paid for gas and my lunches if I didn’t bring one to school. So the college I am at now it’s pretty easy! When I go to this Uni though, the military aid will run out soon, so I will either have to pay tuition out of pocket, take out loans from a bank, or get awarded a scholarship (money given to you by a company or organization because they see a positive future for the student: usually have to make very good grades and meet certain requirements). I’m not sure how much the tuition is yet for me this semester, I am still in the application process. But UNT says their average annual cost of attendance for a Texas resident living ON campus and enrolled in 15 hours a semester (full time) is $25,680. It’s $38,340 average for an out of state student. I will be renting my own apartment, not staying on campus. So that is around $900 or so for my living a month. I’m not sure how much I’ll need for food a month, not too much. Transportation I’ll have to pay for gas for my car, or take a bus. I’m not sure which I will be doing yet, but probably my car. I will have to pay for books as well, and with how specific my classes are getting towards my major, they will become more expensive. Not near as expensive as medical studies though, that’s the same in America too. Nursing is EXPENSIVE. I still have military aid for a little bit longer, but when it runs out I plan on receiving scholarships. I keep my grades as high as possible and I’m doing things to benefit my chances of receiving a scholarship. Hopefully a full ride through college without loans! As for my parents paying for things, yes they will be helping me with the apartment costs. I want to go to school full time, participate in clubs and groups to better myself, and make perfect grades, so they are willing to help out so I can work part time. I’m very blessed to have hard-working, amazing parents. :) Did that answer everything?
@R.James.
@R.James. 4 года назад
@@SarahLovesJapan Yep thank you for answering! It's crazy how expensive tuition is over in the US compared to here and the countries around me. I feel like every student (unless they have a rich background or rich themselves) over in the US will be in a lifelong debt once they finished college paying so much loans. Like the whole thing is an economy on its own. We don't have campus dorms here on any uni unlike you guys have. It's comes down to finding a room by yourself trough connections or signing up at a bunch of websites and apply for them. It can take quite a few months and longer in big cities. How long does the study still last then if you already did 2 years on your old uni? Bachelor is 3 years over here in general plus additional year for masters or sometimes 1,5 or 2 depending you finish everything in time. Plus you want to go to Japan right with that JET program, so how does that work?
@SarahLovesJapan
@SarahLovesJapan 4 года назад
R. James Yeah, it’s pretty crazy. I know people in other countries that can’t believe how our system is. My mom went to school when she was in her mid 30’s and she still has student debt. It’ll be paid off by the time she is 50 or 55. I am about to graduate from the college I am at now with an Associates Degree, which is 2 years. A Bachelors Degree is 4 years total. So I will have 2 years left. Two years at UNT once I start there. To apply for the JET program, you have to have a Bachelors, but it can be in any field! So as long as you have some type of 4 year Bachelors, you can apply. A Masters degree is an extra 2 years. So 6 years total. The average for obtaining a Masters is 5-7 years. In general, doctors complete a 4-year Bachelors degree program, spend 4 years in medical school, and then complete 3-7 years of residency training before they are eligible for medical licensing in the US.

Another thing completely off topic. I saw your aunt/uncle have solar panels on their roof. How much of 'a thing' is green energy in the US? Or perhaps I should ask, is that even a thing in the republican states (Texas is a right winged state right?) versus liberal states? Because I thought those states were kinda like "don't give a sh*t about green energy" and more like "Muricah f*ck yeahhh! ... oil baby!!". Over here they started putting up solar panels on roofs of social housing even (like a third of the country probably is social housing). Social housing is always the latest with getting the 'luxurious' stuff. So quite a lot properties have panels already or getting it, and I didn't even include the self-owned properties (the ones with a mortage).
@SarahLovesJapan
@SarahLovesJapan 4 года назад
I do not know too much about this topic, but I can say that I see solar panels often here in Texas! People here are more self-aware about “going green” and helping the planet and environment than the stereotype displays. Not as much as other places, but people definitely care here. I collect and recycle all of the plastic bottles and containers that we use in my household. Most people do not do that here.
@SarahLovesJapan
@SarahLovesJapan 4 года назад
And yes, Texas is a Republican state; right winged for sure. But there are variations of what people believe and follow :)
@R.James.
@R.James. 4 года назад
@@SarahLovesJapan Yeah that's what I thought. I guess it's just media narrative that shows a bit too much of those things showing a unlikable angle of Americans or a portion (the right wing), while it's not like that actually. It's probably more so that people want to get the cheapest things. Good that you care atleast yeah. Plastic is baddddd, glad people cutting it down.

Surprisingly enough the major oil companies are the ones that are secretly funding a lot of the renewable energy research in the United States. To why that shown in other ways is because we have a lot of uneducated people trying to stick their noses where it doesn't belong. If you don't believe me just search up BP they have a huge project aiming for a net zero in carbon output costing them 25 million of their own money. Now to the question on the Solar panels my dad is a contractor and those things will cost them more than regular electricity would and not a as reliable yet. Some day we will get there but in the United States we still have a lot of research to go.Like how will we dispose of alternative measures of energy like the panels in the future? How can we get renewable energy to run as efficient as the gas and oils we have been running for centuries?. I am a very republican Texas girl because ,I've seen how the left side has ruined economies such as the ones in New York and California, so I'm very bias but also I have facts to back me up... Thanks for the video btw I'm starting there in the fall in their energy engineering program.
@R.James.
@R.James. 4 года назад
@@anamurguia2210 25 Million !? Wow! Ask yourself, how much is BP's total worth of assets, equity, their annual revenue and their profit. Put that 25M in context again. It's like spending less than peanut even for them. And that is even IF it actually is 25M like you say (could be more, could be less). Plus they have to go with the motion anyway for PR ánd not stay behind in R&D as the world is transitioning. Shell does the exact same thing, they invest a little bit here in there in Hydrogen, but by far the majority of that amount is spent on marketing and self promoting. Oil companies are a prime example of businesses with 1 target in mind, that is $$. They're not going to damage their own cash cows they rely upon. I would tread carefully if you are advocating for oil companies.

I actually switched my major to Japanese! Minoring in Asian Studies :) I’ve heard the music program is amazing! My cousin was a music major there a few years back

@@SarahLovesJapan Yeah I am trying to learn Japanese now because I want to watch the Japanese version of my hero academia. I ever never been into anime until I saw that show. The last episode called "his start" is so good in Japanese but loses it's appeal when dubbed.

MHA is top tier anime. One of my favorites!! Izuku holds a special place in my heart ❤️ and I agree, it’s better in Japanese.
