"Silly second half". Sorry? IGN once again being the only people with a stupid opinion on a game. The second half came so unexpectedly and improved the game massively. This game is amazing. Definitelly an 8.5 or 9 from me.
This is a subjective matter though. The second half can feel like a let down to someone else. I wouldn't exactly say that this is something that can be considered stupid, just debatable.
IGN has a pretty shitty horror game record review i mean they gave Alien:Isolation 5 and outlast 9 jesus what alien was at least a 9 it was original and good but outlast a 7 at best
Seriously. "Extremely unfocused story"? What do they want, something Oscar-worthy? It's a pretty simple plot. Keep moving and avoid danger and the slasher/monster so you stay alive. It's actually better than a lot of actual horror movies I've seen.
Kal Blaylo you and I both apparently. I think they just don't like these type of games. They did the same thing with heavy rain. I thought this game was awesome.
Big Boss "Fun" isn't the word i'd use, it looks intriguing, entertaining, like something worth experiencing if you're into this booming genre. Games don't have to be "fun" they just need to be compelling enough to want to play, so just try not to force yourself to use that word.
Until Dawn 7/10 for cheesy second half. Call of Duty 10/10 every year. This is why i hate IGN. you give crappy reviews to great and original games but super high scores to dull and unoriginal shooters
I think I saw their list of 10/10 games back when The Last of Us was added to it, and only two COD games were on there if I remember correctly. People on the internet need to learn that just because someone doesn't think something you like is as good as you think it is doesn't mean they're a dumbass. It means they're different than you.
Well, I didnt expect a Masterpiece since this is basically an homage to cheesy slasher flicks but this might actually be surprisingly good. I enjoyed Games like Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls and Ill definitely give this one a spin.

I feel like the game is so amazing BECAUSE of the massive twist. You start off the game thinking one thing and then it shifts and there's an entirely new, scarier antagonist in the so-called 'silly second half.' Also, Doctor Hill isn't underused as it starts off as identifying what scares you and who you most like/dislike and then he suddenly becomes a deeper insight into one of the characters minds (which helps you understand a lot more about the character, especially if you picked up the 2/3 clues about the real Dr Hill along the way.) To be honest this game is worth so much more than a 7.5 as all of the different endings and possibilities make it difficult to become bored of the game, even if it's your 10th playthrough. You're almost always guaranteed to find something new or make different decisions to see where it takes you.
JEBUZ FUGIN CRIZED I didn't think this game was gonna be anything special either when I played it at PSX, but maybe it is better than I thought. I can't knock it because I remember thinking Gamespot was psycho giving Arkham Knight a 7 but when I got the game I ended up agreeing. Either way I'm still not playing this shit because of MGS. Lol.
Just finished the game and I gotta say, I don't agree with that score at all. They did this same thing with heavy rain. I don't know if they just don't like these style games or what, but I gave it a 9. This is without a doubt one of the most terrifying games and it's fun and comical at the same time. I never felt bored or disliked answering each question or picking up objects and collectibles. It's a cool throwback to original slasher films and it has a ton a replay value. Game also looks amazing and the acting is top notch. I'm super picky with my games as well, so me being hard to please says something. I'm interested to see what they develop next?
I think a lot of critics don't like this style of games, basically adventure type story based experiences. Detroit I consider also a masterpiece and it got 7's all across the board. It didn't use to be like this though, Heavy Rain and The Walking Dead were critically acclaimed. However, recently it seems like critics just aren't that enthralled with the genre - they seem to love open world games, though.
"This isn't a game, it's a movie!" Last time I checked I couldn't change the ending or control the characters in Lord of the Rings. Also, I just recently bought it over Fallout 4. Good times.
The score is the least important part of any review. The content of the review is what's important. Listen/read to what's being said then you can make an informed decision about whether or not the game is for you.
got this for 8 dollars on the ps store during a sale. easily the best 8 dollars I've ever spent. story keeps you going, graphics are off the charts, even in 2017 voice acting and facial features are perfect. and gameplay is amazing with plenty of scares. should have been at least a 8.5.
I'd be fine with a 8. I mean, just because of the silly * plot twist and underused Dr. Hill, this game doesn't deserve a 7.5. The reasoning is a bit odd. * SPOILER: I mean, really? Voodo Magic? Ghosts that posses you if you eat human flesh? The search troops that were unable to seek in a hole? Hannah not being death from that fall? Why didn't she scream for help, the search troop could have easily found her... Yeah some strange stuff in the story, I agree.
Edgar Ornelas I don't have any sources to back it up, but I'm almost positive it was $59.99 or so. Maybe I'm wrong. But $8 is a great deal for this game!
So far I have played 2 hours of this game. Graphics are great, only jumped a few times due to loud noise scares with my Bose surround sound, and I really dislike the limited camera angles as I am running into chairs/walls while trying to navigate. Overall I am enjoying this game.
Limited camera angles are by design. They used those for old school Resident Evil games for example. The point is to make your character hard to control to simulate being scared running into things.

After playing until dawn three times now i find myself wanting to play through again rather than play something else. This game is the choice/result game we all wanted and it delivers in a way that is incredible, beautiful, everchanging, and groundbreaking. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, fresh, replayable, and memorable gaming experience
Picked this up on the sale. Def worth it for $10! Only thing that bugs me is some of the jumpscares make literally no sense. At one point early on someone looks into a car window and a mask is slammed up against it from the inside, but all he does is just go "whoa that was scary" and keeps walking like that was a normal thing... What!?

I would've given it an eight personally. This game had me on the edge of my seat and I really appreciated how this game had genuine scares in it instead of nonstop jump scares all the time. Personally I wish we had more games like this
I'm not a huge fan of horror games but I love this game. That should tell you a lot! I also love the feature that having a PS4 camera, it will record your jump scares at certain parts. Made the playthrough hilarious. It's entertaining enough that my friends were texting me asking me to play the game and livestream it so they could watch. Everyone should play this game.
I wasn't expecting it to be so good. despite all the (admittedly) clichés, it is very fun and very intense, and keep in mind very dark. this game surprised a lot of people in a good way if you can't already tell. for those who are looking in to it, get it, its great. there's nothing else like it

Idk wtf you guys were talking about. Until Dawn is a most buy for the PS4. It was really amazing. The second half was also just as amazing, if not better then the first half.
Silly second half? The entirety of the first half was the build-up to the amazing twist of the second half of the game, and it was pulled off incredibly well. What the hell is this woman talking about. The slow burn pacing of the first half and the action fuelled second half play together to bring a fantastic experience to the player. This woman based af
SPOILER ALERT!!!! They clearly missed that Dr. Hill, being one of Josh's psychiatrists, wasn't giving Josh the proper medication and treatment for his metal disorder (basically Josh was being treated for depression but it wasn't working). If you didn't notice this clue, you wouldn't realize that Josh is not really the villain in the story, for it was his genetics and his doctor's fault for his mental disorder and improper treatment. Just watch Game Theory's explanation of this!!
+Angelo Piromalli The therapy sessions in the gameplay are in his head, yes. But Dr. Hill is very real - if you got the clues as Sam when she was wandering around his workshop or whatever, you can see Josh's phone and medical report papers. It shows that he had a conversation with Dr. Hill on his text messages and that Dr. Hill was his most recent psychiatrist on the medical report papers. You're right about the sessions being in his head, but GT is still right about Dr. Hill.
+Lexmuk I didn't know that. I've only played through the game once at a friends house yesterday night and we made many silly decisions having a good laugh, so we missed a lot of things I imagine. I'm going to buy the game today since its half price. Thanks for that info, I'll be sure to look out for that.

+Lexmuk I loved it! I'll definitely try to get every trophy. Even with the ridiculous play through my friend and I did, I managed to actually feel bad when characters died. We tried to kill off Emily as soon as possible but when we made her fall off the radio tower she still survived LOL. When I play through on my own I'll try and keep everyone alive.
It's an incredible game tbh, I usually don't get scared easily in games but this one has got me afew times and my heart racing a lot by trying to keep the characters alive
this game is awesome, just watched a play through earlier, and it makes you feel like you are personally controlling a horror movie, but at the same time have no control. The suspense is great, the jump scares are perfect, and the mind fuckery is solid.
This would be a fun idea to gather all the friends one night and "play through" it all together. It's definitely more of an interactive movie, but I do agree, the use of every horror cliche did make a lot of the jump scares pretty telegraphed

This is one of the most (if not the) amazing games i've played of this type and i've played a lot of games. It kept me on the edge of my seat and the decisions you have to make seem to change outcomes and things that happen in the story. I'm just starting a second playthrough and I'll see how different it becomes if I make some slightly different choices. My first playthrough, only 2 of the 8 survived. I'm not quite sure what the reviewer means by saying that she felt like she was playing two different games. When the "slasher" is ultimately revealed and we see the true monster/enemy of the game, it does switch gears a little, but that's only out of necessity. I also liked the periodic interludes of the man dressed in a suit (he looks familiar) who's basically interrigating you and trying to warn you about the "butterfly effect" and also trying to determine what scares you, as well as a little about your moral compass. Amazing game!
Most people who play Until Dawn get upset because of their "bad ending". The characters die too easily at the last thirty minutes of the game. It is pretty frustrating.
This game is awesome! I'm still at the 2/3 mark, been waiting for the weekend to entertain myself until MGS comes out. I was at the edge of my seat for most of the game. I could feel something coming but the game spaced the scares evenly instead of being overused.
the plot is the two girls in the prolog fall off a cliff, one of them dies and the other turns into a monster by eating the dead one and josh goes insane
Tried to find the game in the game but there was none. Just boring quick time events and jump scares. Collecting stuff gets boring real fast too. Also, the second half of the game's direction feels disjointed and silly and leaves the player scratching their head to why the sudden change in storyline is necessary?! This review is generous i think when you consider that a lot of other much better games out there have scored less.
Sure, it´s a fun and entertaining game with great graphics... but calling it a ¨horror¨ game ? SERIOUSLY ? This is pretty much an interactive teen ¨horror¨movies from late 80s/early 90s that uhmm.... were not scary at all...Wanna play a TRUE HORROR GAME ? Outlast is your game.
If you have a ps4, this game is an absolute must have. I have never had more fun playing a video game (and I HAVE PLAYED A LOT of games) than I did playing this with 7 of my other friends, each of us playing as a character from the game.
Over one game.... Oh and to that english breaking fanboy. Thank god i got a xbox one instead of the ps4, otherwise i would get screamers and people swearing at me 24/7. Hell PC is better than the two of them.
The game is actually better than given credit for. I don't know how you can say the story isn't focused when every piece of evidence you fine pieces every little thing together making you have no lingering questions when completed. The lack of actual gameplay is a little frusterating but the story is so good and so creative even with all the cliches.
Played it in one sitting. It's like a movie. It'd be weird to drop it off and come back later. You come back to try out different choices. I won't be spoiling myself with youtube. I actually want to replay the episodes myself. It's good. I liked it. It felt so much like telltales' Walking Dead.
Okay, 7.5 is too low for this game. I would at least have gave the game an 8.5, its deserving of that. Dr.Hill is underused but he's not a main part of the story, only acting as Joshua's conscious at the end. The story flows easily to me, because I actually understand it.
(Spoiler) She's right when she says the story goes off in a different direction towards the second half, like playing two different experiences. I didn't play it, but I watched the +6 hour movie.
Stay away from this game folks. I'm halfway through my second playthrough, making completely different decisions this time and so far absolutely nothing has changed with the story. The whole "butterfly effect" scheme is just a marketing gimmick. This is just an animated movie that gives you the illusion of choice. At the most you will get an extra kill scene or not for making different choices, it's a joke. The game is very slow and monotonous, with characters walking at snail speed and no option to skip cinematic scenes. I tried to like it, but it really just isn't very good.
Played the game till the end. Final scene, motion sensor borked out and got one of my team killed. What was supposed to be an awesome ending just left me bitter and ready to trade the game off. Kudos.
I'm sure it was probably expensive as hell and would be especially for games like this, but LA Noire's facial graphics still look better, imo, than anything on ps4/xbox today. I wish next gen games could adopt this tech for a game like this. I love Peter Stormare and they captured the essence of his face, but like a lot of games that do realtime scenes of real actors (like Advanced Warfare), the actors faces seem stiff and non-emotive. I could tell it was Stormare, but that was about all I could tell.
I don't get it. Does the game run it self and you (the gamer) just make certain left/right, yes/no decisions? If that's the case, this game should be price at $40. Not saying this probably isn't a fun but this kind of game is more suited for a tablet.
