Everyone I knew as a kid always wanted to be an adult, I'm sure they regret not taking the time to appreciate their childhood more. I know I do. I rushed into adulthood and lost something in the process that I haven't been able to recover all these years.

The problem is the world is so cruel that to survive we feel that we have to throw away everything we are to become strong enough to see ourselves through the rest of our lives like the generations before us, hell it's practically expected of us. The problem with that is that's not strength because you aren't overcoming anything, you're falling into line with a mindset that poisons creativity and forces us to choose pragmatism over optimism. There's a difference between telling someone they are immature or naive because they need a little guidance and because deep down someone is jealous of that innocence. Then there are those who chase dreams, fail, and become bitter and resentful for it who give up and take it out on those who haven't due to regret. I'm a firm believer that growing up isn't about accepting that your childhood is over and that you're done dreaming. If you look at the world like dreams are dead, then what is there to motivate the changes needed to make the world better? Don't give up any of who you are Rachie, because you put a smile on all your fans and followers faces. I may be an adult now, but I'll be damned if I give up my dreams, either. There is no grow "up", only growth, so let your dreams grow with you, don't toss them to make room when there's no limit to what you can carry within you.

@sevi 1010 I can't deny that you're right, that's just the truth of living in this world, maybe I let my emotions run a bit rampant when I wrote this comment, a moment of heart over head, so let me meet you in the middle with a bit of an amendment. Sometimes dreaming too hard can be damaging, but I still believe that the feeling from a dream can be empowering, even though it is true that holding onto it too tightly can leave you feeling lost when you're forced to go without it, rather than a experience a bit of regret that you never got the chance to have it down the line. Maybe I really don't know what I'm talking about. Maybe I'm just not grown enough to recognize that I haven't grown enough. But so far, in my life, my dreams, which I'll keep to myself for now, HAVE been kept from me by circumstances outside my control like so many others. But I hold onto it because it reminds me who I am that I was even able to dream such dreams, so that even if I make mistakes or if bad things happen around me or to me, I can look to my dreams like a mirror to see if the me I want to be is still here, or in contrast maybe decide that the me I want to be is someone else. But even then, even if I choose to discard an old dream, I haven't given up being a dreamer, I just started a new dream. And, believe it or not, my biggest dream now isn't one from when I was growing up, it was a new one I found when I realized life wasn't going my way. But I remember the old ones, and I keep them in mind, just in case I ever DO get the chance to see what they're like. I probably just went on another tangent there, but this how I get when I talk about this sort of thing. So may those who wish to judge feel free to do so. Not talking about you of course sevi, you were actually really level-headed and polite with your rebuttle which is more than I can say for most youtube commenters. If there were more like you thats one less of my dreams that would seem unattainable.

Honestly, I don't think it is a matter of "holding onto your dreams" that's the issue. Rather, it's when people never let them evolve into aspirations that force them to actually plan shit out and recognize what is realistic for the short term/long term. But I definitely agree with your first line. The world feels incredibly cruel--so much so that by the time I was nine or ten I had already thrown away my dreams. That's not to say I never dreamed, but I had accepted them all as a fantasy and unrealistic. Nowadays, when I think of the future, I feel aimless and dreadful. Once you're an adult, you don't have the same structure as children do, and if you don't have any aspirations in life, it makes living feel awfully aimless and pointless. So yeah, if you toss away your dreams, life becomes a lot more existentially terrifying. At the same time, they eventually need to become grounded in reality if you ever want them to actually go anywhere. Also I don't think its really choosing pragmatism over optimism. Pragmatism doesn't mean you need to toss your dreams away: it just says that eventually, you're going to have to compromise with reality. It's more like the mindset forces choosing pessimism over optimism.

@@shak2678 yeah definitey, I realize I hadn't elaborated on that initially but I'm glad you brought it up. I think one of the biggest things too is for some people's circumstances they have no realistic avenues because opportunities don't present themselves and even careful planning can fall apart with a single incident, which someone without something to hope for, will put them in one existential crisis after another. You could also argue that accepting your lot in life makes it easier, but the reality is that stagnant mindset leaves you aspiring nothing, at which point your just surviving life without any real reason for living it. People by nature have to want something otherwise we're just animals and our sentience is just another evolutionary survival tool. Though it's also true that it works both ways, by which I mean the opposition of our wants and hopes naturally puts in a state negative emotion, which either crushes us or pushes us to keep hoping or hope for something else, like a sort of equal force reaction or osmosis of aspirations, if that makes any sense.

This song.... I've been out of school for a few years now, and currently in my second year in the U.S. Airforce, getting ready to have my first kid, and I realized.. I'm still nowhere near toward an "adult" mind set, I still drift off in my mind making up stories in my head with my favorite characters from Anime, Manga, Lightnovel, etc. I one day want to make my own Manga and a part of me thinks it's such a childish dream, but I don't want my child growing up, and seeing her dad miserable working in a deadend job that he can't stand... I want my kids to see that you can live out the dreams you see before you so long as you have a actual drive for it. This is all pretty cheesy, but I don't really care, I just felt like being a random dude ranting about life on the internet. Shalom to you all, and keep on being Weebs. 🤙

It’s hard to type through the tears but here I go, typing a long-winded and emotional comment. I saw the title and immediately clicked because WOW can I relate. I’m graduating this coming year from high school and the future is so uncertain - I’m not ready to become an adult!!! And I have all these dreams about what I want to accomplish and become but I have little faith in myself and my ability to achieve them. And one of them is becoming as awesome a singer as you! You’re basically and angel, and through your voice in this, I could feel your deep emotional connection to the song and, to an extent, myself. Love you Rachie, please live your best life and have a happy new year! I’ll try to do the same 💞💖 Edit: to further explain, I feel you Rachie because this song expresses how we want to be able to keep making a career of singing, but the dream seems childish and hard to achieve so adults tell us to throw it away and settle for something practical. But if we live that way, we’ll never be truly happy. Even if we hold on to those dreams, we might not make it, and that’s why it’s dangerous to pursue a creative career. But Rachie, I know you’ve made it. You inspire so many people, including myself, to follow in your steps. Another part of this song expresses the fear of the uncertain future and how we will change as people, as well as losing that small bit of childhood happiness/magic we’ve held onto all these years. I hope we both grow up well and find the answer in time.

Andrea H i’ve already shared my story, but hearing someone in a similar situation like me is comforting I may not be pursuing singing, but being told for the last six years of my life what I’ve been doing is completely impractical, and childish or since most of them are too nice to say it, quite frankly stupid, If feels great to know that there’s others who are dealing with the same situation, cheers to May, (or whatever month you graduate)and hopefully a good future where we don’t throw away our dreams

I'm gonna cry... This hits me so hard. I feel this. I can feel my former teen self feeling it. Adulthood can feel crushing... It's hard to find the balance between your childhood ideals and the world around you, especially when capitalism seems to crush you no matter which you choose... Find time to let your inner child have some fun, if you can. Let yourself play video games or color coloring books or play with fidget toys or whatever. Do the things you weren't allowed/couldn't afford to do as a kid. Not all childhood dreams can come true. But you can still treat that inner child sometimes. Nurture yourself!

It actually makes me cry because i recently found my diary and there was letter inside written by the old me to the future me, i was so energetic i even told myself to just keep on going and i hope that nothing will ever change. I was really wishing to stay young forever because i was too afraid to change and become an adult, then years later i realized that my dreams were foolish and that everyone around me, even myself will die sooner or later because that's just life, It would be great if i could be as energetic and happy as i was before but now i have to grow up and face my problems

There's so much power and emotion in this cover, and it's absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. I feel like there's at least one part of the song where we can all relate to.
