I swear the main base in this map looks slightly different. Specifically the parking lot and docking bay. I remember seeing a post on Twitter in which Monique (the 3D artist for VotV) was remaking the parking lot of the base to be more realistically sized and to be able to fit cars. The image she showed in that post showed the main base, but with something new on top of it. Specifically on top of the main hallway window, there was what looked like one of the tubular steam vents you see on too of houses. Considering the fact that no props seem to exist on the map, the main base we see in this map may be the new main base Monique teased in that post.
I doubt that this is supposed to replace the current map, it wouldn’t make sense for the setting of the Swiss alps. Seems more like an alternate map or a testing map.
I would think the coast wouldn’t be the best place for a satellite array like this, considering the salty air and the fair your at the densest part of the atmosphere at sea level
It's probably just a prototype nose is working on or was working on before. The trees are similar to the one in the fenced up area. I doubt it will be an island setting but maybe he was experimenting with a way to add more water to the game? Up until a few versions ago, the only water in the map was the river and the square pool in the base (back then it wasn't an "emergency shower"). I don't think this map will look anything like the future one but he might just be thinking about expanding it because, at least as of now, you really can't walk too far without seeing a POI of some sort. I personaly like the road, it could combine well with the new base since it has a parking and at least to me it never made much sense. I imagine that the road could be used together with the gravel paths to make the map easier to traverse. The island setting also could be so you can't go too far. As of now, the only measures are the border and fridge. All in all, I think is just a place where Nose experiments with different terrain features and how they could be implemented.
there are actually island setting concept pics already, I don't think it'd be a stretch to say this is the experimentation for that intended end result.
almost feels like a multiplayer map concept. assuming the entire area (or most of it) is playable, there is no way in HELL a single player could cover all that ground in a day alternatively its a 2nd map you can access from the grated off hole. yknow like the cartoon gag of a character digging a hole to the other side of the planet?
I came across this on my own, and when I did, I was extremely surprised. Have no idea what it could be used for the only thing I can think of is some kind of DLC. Exciting nonetheless.
Imagine an event where after you sleep you just wake up here, and after you do your normal routine and go back to sleep, you wake back up in the original location
I think potential DLC planned for steam release with 1.0, personally I’d love to see something in lieu of signal simulators map (aka macadam desert or in general a sandy place), maybe even just as direct homage to it, with VOTV gameplay but signal sims vibe
My guess is, as this map has the full on new experimental trees you can still find in the walled off section, that this is the full release map that they are working on as time goes by with the main feature ready build. In a way, we can think of the game we play as a demo of the features they wish to implement on a smaller scale while they work on a much larger map and experience. It is also more than likely that the map itself is largely speaking unfinished at least geographically, making it look tropical over what it will eventually be, sorrounded by Mountainside. Now is this a guess I pulled out of my ass with no evidence present? Yes. However I think Im on the money here. It makes too much sense cause I cannot explaion to myself the creation of such a map otherwise. But if its the case we can more than likely also expect longer day cycles and so on.
the island could be good for some events but others like big pyramid dont work well, i can see the arirals and rozitals on there but not much else, the road doesnt quite fit witht he aesthetic of the base and overall atmosphere of the game so i wouldnt be suprised if this is used for either a different mode or just fir general testing purposes
I am 100% against a map expansion. Maybe expanding the border fence a bit would be nice, but expanding the map to THIS degree would make the game tedious to play. The reason why a smaller map is perfect for this game is because it forces you to see interesting landmarks WHILE doing daily tasks. Having a map this big would make it to where an average player could go an entire playthrough, or maybe even multiple playthroughs, without ever finding a crucial landmark or story location.

Может будет прикольно если просто увеличат текущую в раза 1.5 или 2
Different maps would be cool, but at the same time, entirely different thematic settings with altered mechanics would be better. Not just a seaside base, but an underwater sealab. Not just listening to space, but in a dilapidated space station.
I think that this map was made for another storyline, where, say, instead of the mountains of Switzerland, there is a small island in the Pacific Ocean, and maybe we will play for another doctor, with their own unique events, etc.
i doubt this is DLC/new map althoughter and feels more like DrNose might be playing with terrains, texture and other features which honestly would make sense given the last map update seems to still have a lot of work in progress terrain and some places still more flat then others stuff like the snowy mountains 100% feel like they might be out of bound/background decor since the current map's mountains are still kinda too flat/green for an a Switzerland local, same can be said to the larger lakes since the one lake we have in the game is considerably small and doesnt have a lot of detail to it (also i feel like the cement roads might be a new road type that leads from the gate to the base, probably an "primary" path as opposed to everywhere having a single gravel path)
Probably just an alternate map they might have cooking as a new game + sort of thing for veteran players to have a new map to explore. If it will ever make it into the game proper, most likely will be a full release or post launch addition.
seeing as ive heard a BIG map rework is planned, this might be an early version of what whel get eventually i have a feeling the increase in verticality is just a way to get feedback on a more vertical map and to give people something new to explore for te time being
Ahh, yes, these trees are prototype trees. they can be found in a small fenced-off area in the actual game. Never thought I'd see them outside of that fence, let alone in a map of this scale
