Oh man I don't mean to be a jerk, and I applaud her for taking her time and money to go and learn and find a solution and skills, but people with this little skill and assertiveness with dogs should NOT have a breed like a pitbull. That can be really dangerous.
I agree. I was really worried when my daughter got a pitbull (who I sometimes dogsit). But my daughter has a really dominant personality and was a really strong athlete. I think maybe that's why it's a good fit for her. She has that dog trained to near perfection lol
pit bulls need to be removed from the world, period. All of them. All I see are from nuthead breeders saying how its always the owners fault. But miraculously they aren't adopting them. They are creators of death, not caring as they load shelters and filling them up with baby killers. They should put all shelter pit bulls down and make to so no living pit bull can reproduce. By force.

He does what he wants when he wants. Chihuahuas are notorious biters, and if you do your research " pit bulls" don't have the strongest bite. Strong breed, strong owner, strong training values and practices.

A little joke with the tiny guys, but seriously look 10 most dangerous breed yep pit bulls lead the pack with deaths in America, but mastiff breeds lead the pack in bite force and the sheppards, wolf hybrids are the most and when the drug dealers and fighting rings get those so long to pitties. Every study explains why they lead the pack to. And I'm sorry but it's all in how and what they are raised to do. Fight, guard drugs and drug dealers. Attach more then anything else. I guarantee if mastiff were still used and raised for what they were created for, some have bite forces well over 500lbs, it would be a very different world

This is a scary thought. To see a dog that has bit both person and dog that does NOT listen to her owner. I hope this lady takes this training to the most serious level.
That girl will never master that dog, period. She will learn what she can but she is woefully limited by a lack of natural and instinctive human understanding of dog behaviour. The dog will improve but never to the point where he is no longer an ever-present silent threat.

She could potentially change, but the owner needs to realize she needs to fundamentally change herself and be a leader before any lasting change can occur, and realize its not gonna happen until she changes the way she is with the dog first and foremost. Realize how her dog will not change until she is a leader with her, she needs to put her foot down and learn and put it into action. People can learn animal behavior and they can learn how to be assertive. But she has to realize how crucially important it is and that this dog is not just some part-time fun time pet. She needs to take it serious 3000%. Will she have to change as a person? Yes, but I believe if she is determined enough she could do it. If people want to change enough they can. I've gone through it myself. But she also has to realize how absolutely imperative it is that she change, or give the dog to someone who can make long-term changes.

@ashtonsquires3102 I train and foster abused pits. I have been doing it for over 20 years. And Ive trained and fostered now about a hundred pit type dogs, many who came from horrendous abuse or neglect type situations where they came to me afraid, abused and completely untrained. Know how many went on to bite someone? Zero. Because I train them correctly and make sure they are placed with owners that fit with their personality. An untrained young large pit shouldnt be with a new owner who doesnt know how to be firmly assertive and provide proper training, they should get an older chill staffy bull type if they want a pit type dog. But that goes for any medium/large strong dog breed. So, how many pits have you been around and trained to be able to confidently make such a statement?
Bella was resource-guarding the gal a bit, when she was petting Prince, before they moved to the pool area; whereas Prince was clearly just politely noting the association between that gal and that dog. After they went to the pool area, I was a little surprised that Beckerman didn't step into that corner after them and correct Bella for cornering Prince like that or something, instead of just letting her get away with it. Prince is a good boy, but he's no Bosco, really; I think Bosco might've handled that situation a bit differently-even using a dog's help, sometimes you have to step in and have your dog's back much the same way you'd like a dog to step in and have yours, functioning as a well-oiled team is almost always better than trying to let only one individual or the other try and handle everything all on their own.
@Doweyyy Having a muzzle on your dog isnt embarrassing. Its showing that you're a responsible dog owner or handler. I handle red-zone cases all of the time, and all of the red-zone dogs are on a muzzle if we take them on walks. It doesn't always necessarily mean that they'll bite, sometimes its just a warning. You can also put muzzles on your dog on late night walks even if they dont bite to scare off any creeps you might come along. This shows me that if your dog(s) ever got this way, you'd be too "embarrassed" to handle it responsibly.

I think many here missed that she said she doesn't live with the dog. It's her mother's: 1:10 and 2:53 . I only find this important to point out because her story is similar to mine, where my family continues to get these dogs and I'm put in a position of stress and hyper vigilance; investing time and money on their well-being only to ultimately have the worsening of behavior/mistreatment continue because I am not always there. I remember once I wanted to take my mom's pit to a rescue center, but they said they'd put him down if they felt him too aggressive which scared me. He now lives in a car with my uncle. I wish I would have surrendered him...thinking back, he was no where near aggressive as this pit. So, maybe they wouldn't have. Just hearing of the chance, though...didn't seem right.
This is why l believe there needs to be laws that enforce people to train their dog correctly & choose a breed that suits their lifestyle and temperment. I wonder how her parents would respond if they were fined for not training their dog & had a certain amount of time to do thus or risk more fines and the dog be rehomed to a responsible owner.
While it is important to socialize and train your dog, it is also important to get a dog that suits your life and personality in the first place. Bella seems to have a lot of energy in her. If you don't let her exhaust her energy then it's going to build that aggression in her as well.
I whole heartedly agree. If you live in town and cant put in the time and energy, get a small dog. or a lab. They take time and energy too but much less likely to hurt someone if they arent.
@@primesspct2 Yeeaaah Labs can be aggressive too. Mine was Super dog aggressive. And she had a full yard to run in! Long as walks with me through woods and streams. Trips to the lake every weekend. It’s not the breed. It’s individual personality and the owners. (Looking back she was territorial of her yard and protective of me, a young teenager at the time, while on leash.)
@@RairakkuMushi Yeah for sure dogs are individuals. I bred labs for years and kept track of the pups, and how they were doing. In all that time I did have one male, that became aggressive for the new owner. (she didnt really socialize or train the dog properly, of course) this is out of probably 25 puppies from different females that I had. Any dog that hasn't been trained properly can be a problem. That said though, as a breed they just are generally not as much of a handful as a pit-bull, or rottweiler can be. Sounds like you had a good one, as long as no other dogs were around! lol
@@primesspct2 Yeeeaaaah no. Lol Pitbulls and mastifs and rotties are kinda lazy. They’re chill most of the time. Real cuddlers with their short coats. Muscle bound for sure, but labs are way higher energy and need way more training from my experience. Long as they’re not over fed and fat. People just automatically assume based on looks and reputation. And yeah our girl eventually calmed down cuz I got older and started training her on the leash. She didn’t have to protect me anymore. I do wish we’d been able to dog socialize her. She would have loved dog parks. Had to settle for the soccer field that was fenced in to play long range fetch. Or run and chase with me.

As the owner of a small breed dog, this situation, of a poorly trained pit or any large dog scares me. This girl has no spine to command. People don't get the difference between firm and mean. All small dogs need to be trained and my girl officially begins this week. I live in a senior building, so it's especially important, but some of these people have dogs with zero training. And it's a liability...I'm glad I found your channel.
off topic but the “difference between firm and mean” part tickled me for pretty much no reason lmao. me and my mom got a pitty pup about 3 and a half months ago, when she was about 2 and a half months. when we first got her she used to try and fuck shit up while we were watching her, and my mom used to cuss at her as the correction cue, something along the lines of “SIT UR ASS DOWN” or “PUT IT THE FUCK DOWN” in a serious tone. so for like a week if she felt like she didn’t wanna listen to me i had to cuss at her aggressive af to get her to listen. im 17😂. just felt awkward to have to get like that in front of my mom as a cue😂. nothing new to her though. i play online games she hears 8000 cuss words a day out of me from my room😂. just felt like sharing something that might make somebody laugh🤙. love and peace✌️
Yeah, this one's hard to watch. Especially because she said she doesn't even live with her mom anymore, so her mom's the one who actually needs the training in how to handle Bella. I hope it got better, but it's pretty scary.

I don’t think most people understand why they should do a certain thing. Like how he was saying don’t let Bella sleep in the bed with anyone. Dominant dog just becomes more dominant if you let them that’s why he was telling her that. Seems like she was worry about hurting Bella’s feeling but Bella needs to be put in her place.
She needs to have this dog rehomed. She clearly can't handle her and something horrible can happen in the future including dogs or small children. Absolutely not the right fit.

My dog was about to lose It for a second and then backed off, layed and did the "i'm Sorry" face. I love seeing how many responsible owners are willing to go the extra mile to fix their dog so they can keep them.. Its sickening to see ppl give up fast so its always nice to see many owners that genuinely want to give their dog a happy stable life.. this girl needs a lot of work on being ASSERTIVE.. she's got the desire and she obviously is trying which i'll always respect but she needs to work on being assertive and confident.. her dog will respond to that much more than anything else.. so many people dont understand that even the biggest dogs can be fooled into thinking a tiny person is in charge as long as they carry themselves a certain way and demand respect from the pup..
Not responsible enough no offense, it took the dog bitting someone twice before they decided to do something. It never should ever even get to the point the dog bites someone. And if it does, you need to do something the first time. Most people aren't kind enough, and that dog was lucky not to have been put down.

I agree, she's nowhere near assertive enough to train a dog like that and also nowhere near physically strong enough to control the dog when it attacks people/other animals.
Since the dog has attacked other people, it's seriously concerning that this lady is now going to have to establish herself as dominant over the aggressive dog. If she had learned the ropes and how to handle herself before getting the dog, she would be fine but now she's got to learn that, while breaking the dog's dominance over her and her family. It's going to be many times more difficult to succeed.

My reactive dog was booted out of daycare when they changed to a no neutered dog policy. He was always good with dogs, but not people. He’s now neutered, for a year since we brought a new rescued female home. He recently went to boarding and they asked me if I wanted him to go to playcare during the day with other dogs. It’s been over two years so I was ver hesitant, but they said they would take it slow and see. They told me he did extremely well, was respectful of other dogs, the staff, and even lovable and cuddly. What? They laughed when I asked if they were sure they were talking about my dog. I think he’s just way to overprotective of his family and definitely territorial. Not sure there’s a fix for that.
My dog came to me aggressive. We would take her on walks in high dog areas, hikes, and to the dog park (after knowing she would listen to us, and the dog park was a big test). Anytime she showed any aggression we would correct the behavior and leave. It took time but it did work, and now she's not aggressive towards other dogs unless they try to mount her. There's many methods, and they may not work for every dog. Just sharing what worked for me!

I think the first thing I noticed is how the owner is holding the leash when she came in. Lots of tense unsure energy. Easy for a dog like Bella to take over. Bella is definitely a dog that feels comfortable being the leader.
Yeah, you *cannot* be anxious or nervous with a pitbull because they take it as a sign that they need to take charge. The owner mentioned how Bella was much more obedient before the first time she bit someone, and I would not be surprised at all if after the bite the owner was simply nervous taking Bella anywhere, because that alone could dramatically alter the dynamic, especially if Bella was never will trained to begin with.
@@remylebeau2357 that’s why it’s important making dogs with personality like Bella’s to walk right next to you. Not in front. Just next to you, with the right amount of tension. Without nervousness or anxiety as they said above.
My mom was always tough on our dogs when we were growing up and stuff. We would think it was mean but she always asserted her dominance. This with no hitting, no shock collars or choke chains,etc. we always had bull dogs and for my mom I think it was important to her that the dog was obedient. Then she could loosen up on the dog a bit. Funny thing is she has never let a dog sleep in her bed, but us kids always did. Lol They would know what to expect and they would still be protective. I remember we had an intruder and my mother and I came out of bed not really knowing what was happening and the man was in the middle room with my mother and I standing in two different doorways. Dog came out of my brothers room looked at me, looked at my mom and then went to work like she could sense we didn’t want him there.

This Sheppard was very aggressive towards strangers with time he got better my mom was scared of him. One Day someone broke into our house I was a yeAr old and mom was ready to pop pregnant with my brother.. she hid under kitchen table and Rex bit a chunk outta his ASS 😂😂😂 mom bff!!!!

@@puppetseducer It is not funny. It is responsible training to not hurt another dog. It traumatizes them and they will have fear from it. Some breeds more than others. The POINT of it is correction. That doesn't mean being bitten, but, off leash it happens a lot. This is WHY socialization MUST START very very early so they can learn the social cues of pack behavior. Without this interaction they become dominant, fearful, and lash out because they do not recognize dog behavior. It is also very important to socialize them around People so they can learn acceptable vs threatening behavior. Dogs instinctively recognize threatening but often confuse a random person as a threat due to their natural protective instincts especially among working class dogs. If they are dominant like this one is, it is a problem. Prince has learned to trust his owner and has been trained exceedingly well and has all the cues of dog behavior down. And he is not threatened by any person that displays normal behavior.
I'd have pinned the pit the second he went for Prince until he fully submitted laying on his side. Then I'd let him/her up and repeat the process until the pit totally gave up trying to attack Prince all together. It's like a switch flips in their brains when you do it right. It takes some time in the beginning. Some of us have more tolerance than others so I salute you! Great vid, though. Cheers to fixing broken dogs!

I can almost guarantee that none of the corrections he told her were needed happened. It's okay to be a passive person, but you SHOULD NOT have this or any other bully/dominant breed if you are as passive as she is.
You hit that one right on the head! Pure dominance and she thinks she running stuff. What many people don’t understand is when dogs are rewarded with getting in the bed with the owner, they are being elevated. Put that dog on the floor and when she learns to listen then she can be rewarded again. Hard headed dogs should not be rewarded with bed privilege.

100% agree with those saying pits shouldn’t be owned by everyone. My dog has been bitten/ jumped three times in his three years. All three times have happened because of untrained pits or pit-mixes. We need to leave our emotions behind and stop feeding into all the fuzzy feelings like, “this dog needs me.” We need to deal in the facts and ask ourselves the important questions. Can I control this dog? Can true rehabilitation happen? Can I be balanced enough to take care of my dog and give it the life it needs? If not, don’t adopt that cute little bully breed with the traumatic backstory. Stop putting emotions first.
She's there to learn. Not everyone's perfect. I wasn't perfect neither when i GOT my Weimaraner, i was kind of soft and my partner babied him, problems were fixed but i learned my lesson
The thing is every dog i ever worked with can be re-trained with the right leadership. And with the real dominant ones usually hav less or no problems with feer. As log as the dog respects you. In all situations.
Except that it most likely wasn't a pit or a pit mix. There are roughly 20 breeds of dogs that people commonly confuse for pit bulls that aren't pit bulls. So all of those "pit bulls are dangerous" statistics are the result of the combined bite rates of over 20 breeds. When you account for that, pit bulls aren't any more likely to bite a person or another dog than any other breed.
I heard to days ago that a pit killed a little terrier at the Park I am used to go with my dog. Apparently the owner unleashed her after she put off her musle...the utter stupidity of this woman is astonishing. It is sad for this race because it is actually a good breed once it educated properly. It's old nickname at some point was "nanny dog". It was used as a body guard for kids in UK. At least the owner here want to be better. I confronted a belgian Shepherd type that attaked my dog and she dared to tell me that it was normal for a dog to charge at another and bite them. It has been weeks but I am still mad about it.
This is the wrong dog breed for a person with such little experience and such a passive personality. I really admire the love she has for the dog but this is a disaster in the making unless the owner really takes this serious
This is one of the hardest parts of being a trainer... so many people do not choose the right breed for themselves. The past 5 years, I have seen a 1200% increase in aggression cases coming in for rehab. Most are shepherds, huskys, and pitts. Social media portrayals, the quintessential covid puppy everyone had to get, and people thinking they can love away all the "bad" a shelter dog went through, has created an absolute never-ending flow of reactivity and aggression cases. Many who have started with or went to other trainers that either didn't help at all or made things a whole lot worse. 😕 I love what I do and am grateful I get to make a difference in people's lives and the relationship they have with their dog's.... but damn... sometimes.... 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🙄😤🤬🤯
I had a great dog for 12 years up until about 4 months ago when he passed. We walked across the US together. We worked so well together that i actually got hired to use him to train other dogs. Huskies, shepherds, anything... he had a way with other dogs and put them int their place within a few minutes.
Prince is such a cool dog. He knows exactly his role and what he needs to do. He’s great at giving the other dog correct social cues for whatever the situation they’re trying the train them for. Prince knows he’s in control of the situation and stays honorable.

A friend of mine had a mare who didn’t listen to anyone and bullied the other horses horribly (not for herd hierarchy she was just mean) she sold her to a breeder and he put her in a pasture with a stallion… she learned very quickly she wasn’t the one in charge anymore, she is a lot calmer now and has had I believe 2 colts and a filly.
You can't compare a horse to something that was bred for bloodsports. You wouldn't put a lion with the stallion, the same way you wouldn't put the pit.

A dog that has bitten another dog and a human should NEVER be out in public without a lead/leash. No exceptions. It was fascinating watching the interaction with Prince, how her sole intention was to assert her dominance over him. And then Prince submitting, and seeing Bella subsequently lose interest in him. An eye-opener for me... Thanks Joel and whoever worked the camera for showing all of this so well.

@akoto1 I noticed the woman was timid also. I think it just shows you there isn't trust between them. She has fear towards her own dog and that dog will see it as weakness and try to make decisions for the "weak owner" which is never any good.
HOLY sshiat! I am so glad that the county where I live in California has very tough strict animal safety rules. Where I live; if your pet accidentally or purposely bit someone then you are liable for financial damages no matter the cost. Also our laws are also set that if your dog proves to be a menace to public safety then your dog will be "Destroyed or extinguished" according to the penal codes.
When I was in high school my mom adopted a large unfixed 3 year old German Shepard. He had been left in a back yard his entire life. He was aggressive at first towards me and her. The first time he growled at me I slammed him to the ground and held him there until he started whining. He did it to my mom and she did the same thing. He turned into the best, most loving dog as soon as he figured out we were in charge. If this owner doesn't have the assertiveness to become the alpha in the house with this dog she is SOL. She probably needs to think about getting a different breed in the future.
The dog is this way because the owner does not have the means or possibly time or energy to let that dog let it rip and wear off pent up energy and do basic obedience training to burn off mental energy and build a bond. She is too laid back not a source of firm energy. She needs to step up. If she wants the dog to stop making people feel bad for her.
What the trainer is doing is criminal… after seeing the owner and the dog he needed to have told her that she can’t own this dog.. she needs to give up the dog and or put it down.. it is going to hurt something really badly before long.. this woman has ZERO business owning this dog…
This woman is either going to learn to become a different person with confidence and strength, or she is just going to stay the same as she is and be owned by this awful dog. People need to own dog that fit their lifestyle and personality. But I truly hope she has the perseverance to be changed.
That short tail and stocky body is consistent more with the crossbreed "bully" dogs than the American pit bull terrier. These bullies are being bred for looks, and while most are nice, some of them are just off their rockers.
It’s American Staffordshire (ruby or blue nosed pits) Bella is def a Bully mix Pit have long tails and they use like a whip. My ruby nosed was our pet so I never had ears or tail cropped.
I’ve watched many of this trainers videos. I have come to respect him immensely. He is very good with the clients and their animals. I have learned so much. I don’t have a dog just cats and grandchildren. And he reminds me that boundaries need to be made with them as well. This trainer’s heart shows in his sessions. Instead of making clients repeat multiple sessions, he tells them to watch the other videos specifically for their animal. That is what made me subscribe to his channel. I’m impressed.

Beckman is the best. The best. I utilize his techniques with my heeler and she is awesome! Part of it is her. She’s a really receptive dog. But his instructions are the very best out there.

you gotta pick a breed that fits your personality. the owner is very timid for that breed, hope she gets her assertiveness built up to keep things lasting. props for doing her best to learn but hope this is a lesson to lots of ppl thinking of these breeds.
@@nelliediaz2001 I think you're right. People like this have aggressive, poorly behaved dogs no matter what the breed, but she's being forced to change because she has a strong, dangerous breed. (I do not mean pits are inherently dangerous. I have one! But any large, strong breed is dangerous when poorly behaved)
People are shit-talking her in the comments, but keep something in mind: she brought Bella to a professional to get the help she needed. She admitted she couldn't do it alone and sought help. That shows that she's dedicated and she cares. She may not have the skills or personality to do this on her own. She may not be a dog person, or this may be her first dog ever. it's a step in the right direction and should be commended.
Exactly. They just don't like her and that's fine but they shouldn't take it out on her. It's like choosing the right dog breed. You should choose the right people to critisize: Choose people you actually LIKE to give feedback to, not those you can't stand in the first place. They don't get her. Joel gets her though. Well, they get each other. She's not really offended by his tone at all. They have an amazing chemistry. Made me smile during the whole office scene. ^^

I am a bad owner, my dog barks others and runs after vehicles, but i believe from this experience that there should be a mandatory dog owners license, which would guarantee the dogs are raised properly and won't thereby attack other dogs or humans.
This is the thing I really liked watching his videos, when bad dogs are around me they are good dogs, I never understood why people didn’t understand dog social dynamics as easily, from the angry big dog to the skittish hurt dog. It was only when I started to learn from a trainer and then these videos more recently, that I placed some of what I knew just from seeing dogs as their own animal selves, and large pieces I was missing fell into place(shouting at one dog causes severe emotional pain, while nothing short of fling checking another is the only check that they notice). I grew up with low anxiety dominant dogs, so hard checks and assertiveness came easy, interestingly that seems more rare and the reverse issue of not being in charge is the problem, but a rescue came in, and a strong “no” from me or a few other people makes him bow in shame a year later still, best smartest dog that isn’t scared of dogs or people but the guy needs the softest of ass grabs to understand. Dogs ain’t people, but they are as social as people, learn that shit or get a small rescue, otherwise you will hurt the dog more than you help them.
@@onyourleft5648 I got taught specifically with dogs since childhood (well and truly before the excessive positive treat training became a thing) so never got to experience what you had with dogs, but I *did* get to experience it with horses. Just by watching how they interacted with each other much more than listening to the fear aggressive people that needed to 'control' the big critters that were always expecting a double hoofed buck kick to the face. Nowadays I won't call myself an expert on dogs nor horses, but I never get bit by either, ALL my dogs are gentle mouthed even when hyped up in play or hunting (we have working ratters, they don't snap at people or critters that aren't rats) and I never get thrown or kicked by the horses I work with. No formal training, just observation and doing my best to speak in their own language as much as possible.

Thank you for talking about a dog that can be dominant. Anybody who says there's not has never had a group of dogs. One will always be the dominant one. Not necessarily the mean one or aggressive one, but you'll see behavior in your dogs and you know which one leads.
Not using a dog’s name as a correction is one of the best and hardest things to consistently do. Dogs often have a negative association with their own name because it becomes a second “NO” marker.
Exactly. Making that mistake is how I taught my dog to think her name is the Portuguese equivalent of "good girl", while her real name means "stop right now, mom's incredibly upset". Poor Scully!
It seems as the owner has done nothing with bella. Always amazing how people invest no time in their dogs and then they are surprised when they don't listen and do whatever they want.

@judystewart3487 l agree that TDD is a better trainer because he is quicker. How else do people learn if they remain unaware of their faults. Should he pretend that the woman's demeanour is totally fine for this dominant breed & the breed doesn't need an owner with firm direction and strong leadership abilities - cos her feelings would be hurt?
Only found this channel today and I love it! I just learned why my dog (1 year old staffy cross) kicks up the dirt after a poo or wee in our backyard. I didn’t realise she was scent marking.
I’m sorry, but this dog needs to be corrected big time. Hearing about the dog barking at the owner because the puppy got told off is a big no. I can see this dog biting the owner or others in the house over something like this and then there is not much of a return from there. This dog is a liability as it is at present. Hope the owner has the stuff to bring this dog back from the alpha attitude. Fingers crossed for the owner and dog.
The situation is kinda deadly and adding another dominant type breed to the mix,best she let a professional dog person keep the pit and try getting like a lab or golden retriever and use the little knowledge learnt and apply it to a less dominant breed
I would be terrified to own or be near this dog. Seems very dangerous, not even acknowledging authority and like an accident waiting to happen. Feels like she would easily get angry, charge and bite and not let go...easily kill a dog, child, a person.
Your videos have helped me a ton. My dog was super dominant and very reactive, and it is so easy to just give in to him because making him do the right thing every-single-time is hard work. This idea is so cool. I wish I had it nearby for my grandma's dog, Roxy (maybe I do...I'll have to look it up). She spends most of the days in her house. I thought "I'll start taking her to do dog park", but she seems to jumps at every dog. She'll stare very still and pounce then go for the back/hide. I found this out when testing with my friend's dogs. We adopted her at 5 and a half years, so even though she'll very well mannered, I don't know if she ever got any dog exposure. She very good on leash and does not growl/mind dogs when walking by them, but something about when they remain in a shared space makes her jump. I plan to get her a basket muzzle and have her meet my friend's dog again. His dog remained calm when she jumped on him and stood to the side when she fought another dog (an accident of not checking the yard before letting their dog out). My friend's dog has been to a dog park multiple times and I've seen him check other dogs (a very stressful situation since my family never socializes their dogs). For this reason, I want to try cautiously. So, I'm watching a lot of your videos while keeping in mind that I don't have your background, haha. I just do lots and lots of research to account for all factors. Thanks.
Literally just put this gentle lead on my dog, who is a human walker, for the first time. He’s a large 6 year old non-neutered Weimaraner who is an “Off the leash in the woods and listens well (hunting dog instincts), but when on a leash in public is a maniac” kind of dog. He hated it at first and started rubbing his face in the carpet a bunch so I hooked up the leash and took him outside immediately. It was night and day, no pulling at all. He would stop occasionally and act like he was dying and tried to get it off with his paws but then I would quickly give him a calming hug to let him know it was okay then start the walk again. He would also find a patch of grass and start rubbing his face in it like he did with the carpet, but I used your tip of “watching and anticipating” and would yank lightly upward and we were back on track before he could get his face down. I’ve never walked Thor for more than 15 minutes without me being worn out afterwards. We walked for an hour and a half and I wasn’t exhausted afterwards. Just takes some patience and confidence that it will work. Your videos are great man, I’m addicted to them. Appreciate the help!

This was so interesting and although tough at times, I guess what it needs not just for the owner but also for the dog - it's safety, other peoples and dogs safety and so forth. Tough talk at the end, really appreciate the honesty and directness. Would love to know how she's doing with her dog these days.

Not sure a poodle would be a good fit, specifically because they tend to be energetic and are the active type, I feel like a breed that's more calm would suit her better
I wish he gave us a follow-up. At least the owner came for training. But she has such a soft energy, and there are other people involved who sound like they also can’t be strong. A tough video to watch. It will take a miracle to fix the situation.

I believe that a big part of dog handling is intuitive & not everyone has it naturally. Kudos to the people who struggle for putting in the time and expense to get help. I like to see trainers teach someone how to understand their dog’s behavior & correct it. It’s hard to admit to a pro that you are failing at dog parenting when it seems easy for other people. This might not have started as the most ideal match of owner & dog but she’s willing to learn where a lot of people would give up.
Where I live, you have to do a basic test in practice as well as theory before being allowed to keep any dog at all. If you want to own a more challenging breed, you also need to fulfill more specialized requirements. People like her do not get to keep a dog like Bella without being forced to work on themselves first. It should honestly be stricter than it is but it's so much better of a start than ending up like this with both a person AND another dog injured. So yes, I do see she's trying to fix it and she wants to work, which I applaude. But I also think this is kind of too late and thinking about the rest of society, I would not trust her with this dog anymore, period. There must be some explicit control on whether she is now able to handle the dog adequately before she gets Bella back. Which I know isn't how it works in the US. Once a person gets hurt, you as an owner lose all trust. Even if the dog gets fixed in training, as long as the owner wasn't fixed, it's not enough.
This whole video is the perfect example of canine communication and understanding that a hierarchy does exist, despite these dogs not being in the same pack. The owner of Bella needed to understand this aspect of her personality because now she can learn how to handle it. Thank you so much for sharing this
I have the idea that you must show your self as the pack leader from the moment 0. The First impression Is the most important, It stays there Forever if you keep acting like that and things are going to be easier. However it's not going to be impossible correcting bad behaviours if you've been way too soft but your dog Will still try to test you, plus there's the rehersal thing and the brain pathways. I come from a family of old style shepperdsdad used to tell me to never let the dog satisfy his desires (jumping on people, jumping on the couch/bed/armchairs, sleeping in the bed, entering in the house, countersurfing, nipping, leaving you/pulling today, ecc) cause later he's going to feel entiteled but never understood why, this man gave a perfect explanation of rehersal, actually it's the way It works with US too especially with Kids as he said. However this dog Is this girl's best chance to make a check up on her self, She seems to be very gentle, too gentle, and dogs and people are correlated, if you let a dog take advantage on you It means that people can take advantage of you and the opposite it's true as well.
I love your videos! Especially because like you have stated many times a lot of these other “ trainers “say that it’s not a issue with dominance, like it’s not a thing or whatever or like there’s no aggressive behavior or whatever crap these videos that I have watched tried to say. And I tried their methods and it did not really help at all. I have a puppy who is about to be six months old. He is a miniature Australian Shepherd (but really big for his breed) it is just me and my 16-year-old son who live in the home. I grew up being scared of everything; butterflies, mosquitoes kittens, cats, dogs, snakes, cricket grasshoppers, but especially dogs to this I’m still scared of dogs. As an adult, I’m not scared of puppies now generally small puppies. But knowing I am scared of them I made sure I tried to follow training advice to assert my dominance over this puppy. I believe I have been successful. He listens to me 90% of the time. He is clearly asserting his dominance over my 16-year-old son though, he was lunging, but if I’m in the room, I make sure if my son doesn’t tell him down I tell him to get down. I was just wondering if you had any advice
So.... you just told this owner who has ZERO control of her pitbull, a dog who KNOWS that she is in charge to openly challenge her own dog and "take back control" ... so what happens when this dog bites the crap out of her owner and ends up in the hospital? This could be REALLY dangerous.
If the dog bites her or someone else the thing that will happen is the owner will realize it's the wrong dog to own, life is a Bich when you get bit by a Bich. I certainly would not let this dog around kids. Not even my own, and if I could not train her to listen it would be over for her.
I told this lady I would have shot her dog (unleashed, aggressive German Shepard) if he would have touched my dog. I also told her I would have beat her ass. Luckily this man seen the dog coming at me so he jumped out his vehicle, which made me turn and I yelled at it. The owner was yelling, and so was the guy. I told her you don’t let your aggressive dog off leash. My Maltese is 7lbs and I’d f someone up for their negligence.
Totally agree. My pit/mix has been attacked by unleashed goldendoodles and little terries and it bugs me so much. My dog just ignores them, but if he was aggressive, those dogs would have had to been scraped of the road.

We're fostering a pitbull and using the gentle leader. Watching Bella pull and sort of flip is exactly what our foster does in reacting to dogs. Complete with foaming at the mouth when he completely loses it. We're working on it. Not an easy job.
I have a pitbull/husky mix male dog. He is one tough cookie and very dominating. His husky side makes him super stubborn and stupid as well almost like a person with short term memory loss. After painful training with my dog; he somewhat had gotten slightly better.

@@coolgamers2794 yes, the worst dogs make you a better trainer. Check out Joel's Rottweiler named Creed video for the foundation video for loose leash walking and reactivity. Pits were bred to not give up and it was the Husky's job to be sure that sled doesn't go into the ice regardless of what the owner said, so a challenge is that they often choose their decision over yours. "She's a brick wall", that's what kept going through my mind the whole time watching this dog. 😒 I don't understand why I like this dog, but I do. I wish the owner success in teaching her dog.
I used to have neighbor parents with a tyrant five-year-ish boy who would scream like mad when something didn't go his way ... Now I have another neighbour with 4 small dogs. And one of them barks those maddening high pitch barks when he is left alone. They spend day locked and never go for a walk. Honestly ... some people shouldn't be allowed to have babies or dogs ... It seems those kids and dogs lack discipline and no figure of authority. Spoiled poor things. Perhaps spoiled for life. How sad.
I'm so afraid this dog is too much for the owner. Doesn't sound like they have enjoyable walks and it's hard on your nerves worrying if they'll attack. I truly wish luck and safety in the future.
