door dash should also let the customer know how many dashers have declined their order, when customers start seeing that their order has been declined by 17 dashers and the pay is $3.65 for 8 miles, maybe just maybe, then they'll understand lol

i got an order from a merchant the other day and i just so happened to see the delivery fee charged to the customer on the receipt. it was a 9.50 delivery fee and the base pay was 2.25 on the order. so basically DD is charging them extra for the food and charging a high delivery fee and giving us a fraction of it. while its our cars we are using, wear n tear on them, our gas money, our money paying for maintenance, tires, repairs, etc. smh

The restaurant actually sets the price of the food, but DD get a commission percentage from that. So restaurants will raise the price to offset that commission fee
@RwM410
@RwM410 7 месяцев назад
It is my understanding that the restaurant has tier options when partnering with DoorDash like 30% commissions for lower delivery fees and better visibility on the app. Versus a lower percentage commission taken where the delivery fee is much higher and visibility for their company may be more difficult on the app. Basically DoorDash is going to get their money either way, but it definitely puts a strain on small businesses who would like to keep their price points near the menu price and attract more marketing attention in the area to build their clientele.

I think doordash should do what uber does and allow you to rate the customer as a dasher after the order is done. If you rate the customer a 3 or below, it would do like when you decline an order and ask why you rated them that way. Enough downvotes and THEY are booted off the app. If they can lie and get us in trouble for “food not delivered” and cost us our jobs, then why not let US be able to call out bad tippers, bad people, and liars?

On my second day dashing, I had a customer who gave me the correct building address but one street over the back of an apartment complex. They were only two walking paths into the complex from that street. Both of them said no trespassing, private property. You are being monitored by security, so I walked around txting customer, for 20 minutes before somebody came out of one of those paths and said oh it’s on the other side of the block. I guarantee their food was cold when they got it however, they did get it.. I feel like being able to write the customer reviews in a situations like this when they give the correct address would be highly beneficial to both DoorDash and other drivers.
@twuin2023
@twuin2023 7 месяцев назад
Because that would only become a double-edged sword, then there would be a lot of criticism from much of the populus. You start rating customers, they drop off. We aren't employees but 'partnership' to the gig platforms, and in light of the customer, they see us as employees of those platforms and will still fully accept that they are in the right (whether they are or not, and this is still customer service-based work). Customers will believe they are right until otherwise proven, but some you just can't win. So the point I am making is, treat them like they are royalty, whether you like it or not, because that is how you get regulars, and in my own experiences, you can still get on their good side even if it takes a full year to do so. Criticism doesn't always start with who they interact with, it could be bad experiences from another. Be the good guy and you win. Keep the criticism to yourself and contact support if the customer was way off the mark. I had to learn from customer service jobs over a nominal amount of years doing everything from hostess to hotels and even being a cashier at some. No it's not always easy, but there are some great takeaways from those times and it will guarantee you work when you just bow to it 💡

Most of the orders in my zone are upside down, and when I auto decline orders under $1/mile I start losing hourly rate. I used to think it was on the customer to tip, but after realizing how much the customer pays in fees and paying for their food, I have now decided DD absolutely needs to increase base pay. Excellent video!

I've notice DD stacks orders (no tip orders) and will only pay base for one order. I got a stacked order at two different restaurants and notice I only got a base pay for one of the stacked orders. Another thing I've notice is that I had two separate orders roughly the same miles. Door dash paid me the standard base pay of 2.00 per order when the tip was higher but they actually gave me a higher base paid when the tip was lower. Given the miles was almost the same, it's just weird that door dash's base pay flucutates based on the tip and not the mileage.

I won't even take a stack any more. They steal. You guys are given them the benefit of the doubt, saying it's a dollar per order. And I look at it differently. The base pay isn't $2 per order. Waiting at restaurants is a real pain point. Perhaps give a $1 bonus for every 5 minutes the restaurant is late (according to order ready time, not driver arrival time). This rewards the driver who is not unassigning the order and hopefully encourages the restaurant to get their orders out in a more timely manner. #UpThePay

Does door dash make restaurants mark an order complete before sending someone to pick it up because I almost never get order is ready text. Most of the restaurants I go to I always have to wait even just for a few minutes. Only one restaurant has the order ready for pick up when I get there. Just write a few lines of code that makes it mandatory for them to complete the order before Door Dash sends out the request to dashers and if restaurants keep marking an order complete when it's not, than pay the driver extra for having to wait if they order isn't ready when they get there.

I think you have great ideas and that's why I follow you. I was thinking about the Doordash commercials I've seen. They're always to hire new drivers. How about a whole different ad approach? Sometimes I wish the customer knew what I went thru to get this food to them. I think they forget the value of my service. Have commercials where the superhero dasher avoids hitting that person who crossed in front of you in traffic out of nowhere, dashed thru the rain and snow and did not spill your drink on the slippery ground, waited at the restaurant with children crying and the restaurant staff rushing around, took the maintenance of your car, on and on, all so you could have your nice, delicious, warm food. You know? Help us Dashers out and remind people what they are missing. They don't have to pay the gas or deal with holiday traffic or get dressed to go out in public. I agree the base pay is an issue, and it would also help if someone wants to tip you 1.50, that they are not paying for the gas, frustration and time a Dasher goes thru to get the food to them.

What DD/UBER need to do is set a minimum delivery payout based upon the milage. And if the base pay plus tip does not reach that amount, you just inform the customer that they will not be able to place this delivery order. Also a maximum delivery range would be amazing. For example from time to time I will see orders from Krispy Kreme that are going 12+ miles and they are paying like $6. No one in their right mind is going to deliver that and DD has to be smart enough to understand that they are very likely going to have to refund that and lose even more money than it they just didn't allow the order to be placed for delivery in the first place.
@GrantTravels23
@GrantTravels23 7 месяцев назад
This is why DD has zones. Cuz it was worse before they zoned it but yes they should only allow a certain distance. There is an option on the customer side to scroll through stores based on distance and that option should also show them the estimated cost of that delivery as they scroll through it

Hey Bentley, thank you for your videos and great information! The most insulting things DD does is lowering its pay if the customer tips well. I had a 7.5 mile order that paid $8. The customer tipped $6, so DD lowered their portion of the pay to $2. Clearly a 7 mile order would pay more than the minimum if the customer hadn't tipped so well. The customer's tip, in this situation, did not go to the driver, it went to DD so they could pay less. This is really dishonest on DD's part. Thanks again Bentley, you're awesome!

What it's really time to do is for DoorDash to warn their customers multiple times that they have selected a store that's far away. In the example you provided the store was Subway and there is likely a Subway closer to the customer. DoorDash needs to make it so every order is at the closest store to the customer and bury the swapping of stores deep in a menu somewhere so the customer can't "Accidently" choose the wrong one. I have a friend who is unable to leave their bed and has selected a store farther away accidently several times. Dashers still deliver the food but I'm sure if it were closer they would have paid the dasher less and the dasher still would have made money. (Because he always tips.)

Door dash needs to pay us accordingly for usage of our cars and time and everything, If they paid us accordingly then the tips wouldn't be that huge of a deal and be the added bonus that it should be, and acceptance rate shouldn't mean a damn thing in our ratings as well. I think they toy with that line of labeling us independent contractors. As much as they upcharge the menu items on top of fees they need to pay us more instead of being greedy assholes.

This is my strategy that I have been doing and relaying to fellow doordash drivers. If you're going to decline, let that timer run down to the last second and decline it. If you're going to accept it, let that offer run down to the last second and accept it. You arrive at the store, the order is ready. Wait it out. Wait for a stacked order. Max I Wait is about 7 minutes for the stack. Then, I'll confirm pickup and proceed to delivery The object of this strategy is to confirm to the customer that they will wait for their non-bid.

I think $3 base, 3 miles or less restaurant to customer is fair enough. Where I think they should really pay the price, is distance. Suggest $1 per mile restaurant to customer beyond 3 miles, so for instance 5 miles to customer $5 base, 8 miles $8 base and on. If Doordash properly felt distance in paying more, they might finally consider the inefficiency and illogical nature of offering at such distances.

I don't mind rural delivery out of the city, but there has to be compensation to accommodate the travel time back to the zones after the delivery . In these cases at least $1.75 per mile ($1 per mile with $.75 for the miles on return). DD is just blowing this big time!

I appreciate your content , lots of good info and insight into dashing. I’ve only been dashing for a year and I’ve found it’s completely different dashing now compared to when I started. There are less big money orders for one. When I started I could get 3-4 decent big orders per night , now I am lucky if I get 1 per night. And it’s not my AR that’s still high. DD has changed a whole lot since I started and looks like it will change a lot more before it’s all said and done. What I’m saying is to all you new drivers get in and get the money while you can cause honestly I don’t see the pay system staying as it is for much longer DD will find a way to lessen our earnings while increasing their own margins, like all big companies do. Get in while you can take orders , stack money , then when the ship starts sinking, get the hell out. Thank you for the informative content ! A fan from Texas. ✌️

Here’s the problem with this discussion - the framing. This is not about customers, or drivers, or tips - it is about DoorDash’s desperate need to satisfy Wall Street. I drive 9-10 hours 6 days, have a 4.93 customer rating, 56% AR, 100% CR, 95% on time, and over 8,000 deliveries - and yet my earnings are down 30% for the last weeks. DD is taking from my pocket (and yours, too) to improve their earnings - or actually (Ha!) lower their loss. DD is an ethically corrupt, economic black hole.

They reduced base pay to $2 in our area a couple few weeks ago. Yet today, I walk into McDonald's to pick up an order for $5 going less than a mile. There's two other orders sitting on the shelf. After the drop off, I get an offer for 10.75, from the same McDonald's going the same direction I just came from only a half a mile farther!?? The base pay on that one was $5!?? Now this may have been passed up at first but why did they not attach it to my other order and why did it go up to five dollars when by the time I got back there and got it to the customer it had to be cold?? Where is the prioritization? I don't believe doordash knows what they're doing in this situation. What I do know is the reduction in base pay is going to have to be sucked up by the customer AND they're still going to have to at least tip the same. Doordash is getting greedy. Too greedy

DD sets its drivers up for failure. That’s why they send the same rat offers to the same driver multiple times thus forcing the acceptance rate down. Once it sinks to a very low percentage, they don’t have to send out “higher paying offers”. Which are a laugh when it’s $4.50 for 4 miles. The more they dis me. The more I drive for the competition. Where DD used to be 70-80% of my income/business they are now around 20%. I always choose UE or GH first. And I’m doing more Spark. I am sure it will ebb and flow from one company to another but for now they get the last consideration. Great Vid. Well spoken. And we all have an Uncle Tony.

The concept of tipping a DoorDash driver is incorrect. What customers are doing is bidding on our service. If customers offer a high enough contract, drivers take it. If customers do not offer a high enough contract, their food will sit around and go cold. Calling an increase bid a tip gives a false impression on what really is going on.

I agree to this video 100%. Outside of this the second thing to talk about is the fact that 60% of DoorDasher‘s aren’t who they say they are. I get women driving around under a guys name all the time, vise versa. I even see 13-year-old kids running around doordashing under their parents name. Yeah, I've been seeing this s**t for a couple of years now where the customer obviously tips ok but because the order is upside down I decline it. And with inflation I have started using $1.25 per mile as my benchmark for acceptability. I just can't understand why DD can't figure it out. So many orders are ignored that has to negatively effect their bottom line. (they're still not showing a profit). My son-in-law owns a small, thriving Chinese restaurant yet he regularly gets DD & Uber orders that go undelivered by the end of the night. He says he just leaves them outside the door and they're still there in the morning. Of course Tony and the other 2 principles are in the billionaire club so they could care less. They better cash out while they're still ahead because the leadership within the company is dragging DD down not lifting them up.

God bless you and your generosity. I also feel the same way, and I definitely tip well when I order from DoorDash. Also, just as a standard for my own understanding, I have picked up food from across town, put it in a hot bag and driven it all the way home just to see how hot it should be when it arrives to me. I now judge what a driver does compared to what I would do and I tip them accordingly. I think that the hot bag is absolutely a key element and I see so many Dashers not using them, but I constantly am being asked to take a picture of my hot bag for the app. Anybody else have this going on?

More people are resenting tipping. But I've got screenshots from 2 different orders that prove DD takes part of the customer's tips. Orders from the same CVS on the same day going to the same area (college town). Customer 1 tipped $3.50 and the total order was $10.00 even. Customer 2 tipped $4.50 but the total was only $10.75. It should be $11 but DD lowered the base pay by a quarter, so the customer's extra tip money did not all go to me. That particular day they were offering $3 peak pay, it was like last December, but I think they still do the same thing. Taking a quarter or 50 cents from the extra tips to subsidize base pay from millions of Dashers adds up. Idk how to prove it, but surely someone knows how an algorithm works to do that. DD is looking to please shareholders, not the drivers.

Simply getting the opportunity to be offered larger orders with TD isn't enough because they send us all the crap stuff too. So how about AR < 50% current base pay, AR > 70% base pay +$1-$2, AR > 90% Base pay + $3 - $4.

I have been at delivery driving since feb2016, my personal experience from yesterday was I just paid support bill, then went out on dash I get 10 dollar 17 mile (skip that one), took a 7 dollar Walgreens 1 mile, get in there, 3 item none of the item were there, mid shop they offer me 3.50 wing stop (skip), then have cancel the order in the store because I'm not having to try reshop for the customer thru text messaging (btw, is Nutella food?), I ended up hitting that pause order button, so I would not see any more trash, moved over to my areas, they give me another wing stop 5.50 one mile (and its awesome they try to convince that's "high pay" order when by now after like doing this for 8 years, you should know by now what real high pay order is), I accept then look over and I got 50 cars going down both lanes each, and realize that 1 mile delivery is looking like 30 mins real quick and cancel that one too. Clocked out went home for the day. Something I noticed that changed tho is my competition rate did not take a hit for marking the delivery to low of pay. I'm new to the DD game. However Im not new to corporate bait and switch. I guess we got to think like DD, because they are trying to expand delivery out to as many customers as possible. I feel it's got to be a fair exchange, but with more transparency for the Dasher.
