Awesome job Pan! Can't go wrong with JVC and Revel for sure. I have a dedicated theater room (11.6.2) with 2 rows of seats using all JBL Studio series speakers (I love compression drivers), along with dual Monolith 15 subs and I am using transducers in each seat for tactile feedback. I am using a false wall in the front with an accoustically transparent screen so I have three matching vertical floorstanding speakers behind it. I also am a huge JVC projector fan and have a JVC 4K bulb projector that I keep thinking I will upgrade to a laser, but I am so happy with the picture quality I will keep it awhile longer and just replace bulbs as needed. I 100% agree on room acoustics and EQ. I am using a mix of diffusion and absorption and it is a night and day difference . In terms of upgrades I would say eventually try to match your surrounds with Revel, I would also look into wides, they really made a difference and are one of my favorite upgrades. It looks like you could even go bigger with your screen :). I would also look into Crowson transducers for your seats, again it is one of those things that really enhance action movies. Thanks for sharing, and again amazing job! It is amazing what a black room can do for picture quality and how immersive the room feels when you turn the lights out.

Pan, I had no idea that you were an AV Nerd (TM) even though I've seen a ton of your detailing videos! Clearly you are neat and organized, but I somehow missed any and all references to the AV stuff. This is a gorgeous, inspired setup! I can only try to imagine what it must be like to sit there and enjoy your favorite films. I'm an IT guy by career/trade, but we grew up with a dad who was passionate about good films, so we inherited a love of all things AV as a result. My little home system is not even meager by comparison, but considering we came up from 480i NTSC OTA broadcast TV, we've come a long way. I often marvel at the fact that for 20-25$, I can hold in my hand a shiny optical UHD BD disc, which meets or exceeds the quality of 5-6 reels of 35mm release print film stock. We've come a long, long way. I hope your new systems brings you decades of joy! Well done!

Setup is awesome. Question is that enough room for heat venting on the marantz amp and processor. 😮 I custom made my cabinet and gave it near 6 inches of space before the second shelf for my marantz. I run 3 702 s2 for my LCR. I wish to hear revel demo someday. Haven't found a local dealer yet. 😕

Thanks! Yeah no worries about ventilation as it’s open on all sides including the rear, and a good inch on top. I keep the air cool in my house (20C during the day and 18C at night) year round, and it’s in the basement, so no equipment ever gets warm really. If you have the opportunity to test flagship Revel one day, get your money ready as you’ll want to buy right away. Such a huge upgrade over my previous GoldenEar Triton Two+ I had. And even in HiFi they would still do great for two channel music. What a beautifully well balanced home theatre setup. Forget about the perfect speaker positioning. Unlike most home theatre setups I personally would like to commend you for not cheaping out on cables. Most people don't realise the biggest culpitts for a heightened noise floor (background signal noise) are actually the cables. Even though run a high-performance setup I'm only in a small 13 x 11.5 ft living room. So rather going with seven base channels, I went with five base level speakers and four height channels. Btw (for future reference) having those extra heights is what brings on the true bubble of sound.

Thanks! I agree. Too many people believe cables are snake oil and they just buy the cheapest possible. My experience is that high end cables are worth the extra money both in home theater and stereo applications.

Even after auditioning 3 mid priced AVR's (one of them the £2,000 the Denon 6500), the same unwanted background noise was still present. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about any form of grounding buzz or hiss. What I'm referring to is actually the sound of the room. Maybe I'm just a little over sensitive to the background signal noise (noise floor) but for me, even though I'm running an arcam avr20 with a couple of matching high-performance 4 channel power amps (front stage/Atmos) which are driving my Sonus Faber speakers in a 5.2.4 configuration, which also includes a stereo pair of Rel subwoofers for my 4 × 3.5m (13 × 11.5ft) livingroom. I have to say it was only when I purchased quality shielded speaker & RCA cables the room finally become exceptionally quiet! My room is now so quiet there are occasions (without me opening my eyes) I'm actually unable to differentiate whether the system is switched off or if it's actually switched on. The room is really that quiet. If one is looking to get rid of that so-called ambient sound of the roommate imo shielded cables are the only way to go, and btw they don't necessarily have to be expensive. Bear in mind this is coming from someone who's changed his setup and cables multiple times. Silence is Golden 🥳

I have since purchased a new Kaleidescape system with a Strato C player and new flagship Tera Prime SSD server and that uncompressed studio master video/audio quality really made my Oppo player obsolete. It’s insane how good the Kaleidescape is, but is several times the cost of the Oppo. But the Oppo is a tank and arguably the best 4K Blu-ray player ever made. I just wish Oppo came back in the game and continued to produce new versions.

Interesting. A few viewers have spoken to me about JTR subs, and they seem legit. But I have no reseller in the Montreal (Canada) area so I can never get to experience them. Also, they seem quite huge, perhaps bigger than my SVS PB16 Ultra subs, and I wouldn't have the space for that I think... Would two JTR subs be ok running off one dedicated 20A circuit?

That's all great, I understand why you went with what you did, I think I would have gone with JTR RS2 or RS1 subs instead but I see why you went pb16's they weren't a bad choice at all. I used to love velodyne subwoofers so I might have had to try one of those before going with the pb's but props to you for your choices

Wow, that is my dream room, literally. Everything in that room is amazing. Fantastic set-up! I also have the Oppo 203 and it is such a shame it was discontinued. Glad I got one when I heard they were going to stop making and selling them. Your 2-channel set-up is beyond amazing. I would be totally fine settlling with listening to 2 channel music on the Revel tower speakers myself LOL.

Thanks Bobby! Since this video, I purchased the new flagship Kaleidescape setup with a Stratos C player and the new Terra Prime SSD movie server. Uncompressed studio quality video and audio. Makes my Oppo player obsolete. It’s insane the quality on Kaleidescape. Eye watering prices but well worth the cost if you have a cutting edge setup.

@@PanTheOrganizer Sony XBR65Z9D, Marantz SR7012, Emotiva XPA-3 (Gen3), Oppo 203 (region-free), Polk LSiM 706c (center), Polk LSiM 707 (towers x2), Polk LSiM 703 (surrounds x4), Klipsch RP-500SA (heights x4), SVS SB-2000 (sub), Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen), PS5 and all Audioquest cables (except for surrounds and heights). Only upgrade I am currently considering at the moment is a UST projector but I want something with Dolby Vision and 3D capability. There are a few now that are capable but I am still happy with my Z9D for now while I wait for prices to drop. I have an extremely large physical media collection and most of my money goes there. Right now I enjoy collecting a lot of the LE sets coming out on 4K Blu-ray. I am also into multi-surround music as well so I also purchase quite a few superdeluxe sets that feature multi-surround discs which are also kind of pricey.

Very nice setup. Though I have enjoyed Marantz, switched to Anthem for both receiver and amp. Order of magnitude difference in sound and configurability. Also, if a thing Anthem is crafted in Canada.

Hi, I have a correction on your Kalidascape comment. Their movies ARE compressed. Slightly less than UHD discs but still compressed.

That's not the info I got. What is your source for the information? Anyways, regardless, I recently bought a full new Kaleidescape setup (Strato C player and new flagship Terra Prime SSD) and I can confirm it does look better and sound better than any of my UHD discs. Sometimes quite noticeably, sometimes a tiny bit better, but there are improvements. I think this is as good as it gets for now.

I have never had the chance to test their subs, as none of my audio shops in my area carry them. But I hear a lot of good things about their gear, from channels like Youthman. I also hear that JL Audio Fathom subs are supposed to be up there in quality.

Good afternoon Cool set! Congratulations. Please tell me, have you probably connected AMP 10 to the bridge on your front and center channels? And in the AV 10 settings the speakers are set to "full range"? I also have these components working with the MK SOUND S150 series|| and I connected 5 channels to the “bridge”, since it seemed to me that it was not enough! Thank you)

Respect, your cinema is technically absolutely top and visually very tastefully built. I'm also in the process of building, the technology is in my plan (Trinnov, Sony XW7000 although the NZ8 has a better black level but the volume of the fans is slightly better with the Sony. I hope I can match the quality of the NZ8 with a Lumagen. ) I definitely have to steal the look of your movie theater. :) I like it very, very much! Hats off to you.

After filming this video, I recently purchased a top of the line Kaleidescape movie server setup, for uncompressed video and audio. It's eye watering expensive but makes my Oppo 4K Blu-Ray player feel obsolete haha. I got the Kaleidescape Strato C player and the new flagship Kaleidescape Terra Prime SSD server. Movies have never looked or sounded better in my setup! :)

Very nice system! I also have the Marantz AV10 and love it but I have found one issue. I'm also using the JVC NZ8 but I'm using it with an anamorphic lens. Unfortunately the AV10 doesn't play well with a constant image height system. The onscreen volume level display is limited to either the very top or the very bottom of the screen which places it outside the imaging device leaving me without onscreen volume display. I've contacted Marantz but they seem to have no interest in resolving it. My theater is still a work in progress, my job is just about 100% travel, 300+ nights/year in hotels so it makes it difficult to build a DIY theater. I've built the LCR speakers and side speakers but my CNC went down a few months ago. I got that back up and running on my last trip home so I'll be cutting parts to build the rear and Atmos speakers on the next trip. I'll also be cutting parts to build manifolds for four more infinite baffle Ultimax 18's above the theater. These will be near the back of the theater, two on each side to improve bass uniformity across the listening area. The existing eight are near the front spanning across the center of the room. I still have a lot of work to do on mine but I think it will be worth it when it's finally completed. Knowing me, that will be about the time I decide to sell this 2nd, "forever house", build a third and start over.

Very nice system and the room looks great. I personally think the 328be is a better speaker for music than those B&Ws, I have owned both bands myself. I sold my revel 228be and moved onto the JBL 4367. My theater is all JBL synthesis at this time. McIntosh and Marantz electronics.

@@PanTheOrganizer I am using a Sony 5000es on a 120” 16/9 screen (the room is a batcave) but my interest in audio first. I tend to stick to Sony because I “need” the lower response time. When dropped down to 1080p/120 it is 8ms which makes a huge difference for competitor games. I combine my two channel and home theater into one though. I have thought about splitting them (as I have room) but I like to game with the sound off and music on. Anyway I really like the 328be/228be and used the 228be with JL subs high-passed for about two years. I almost went full Be for my theater but bought the JBLs on a whim and found I prefer them. They are my first horns and a revelation for me. Everything just sounds less produced and more real. Drums snap harder, etc. I had the 228be the same time as the JBL 4367 for direct A/B and the JBL is both more detailed and dynamic. You do give up soundstage depth and width as the trade off for dynamics. The tonal balance of the JBL is almost identical to the Revel. Interesting I like the JBL better for music and the revel better for surround sound, which is the opposite of what I would have thought before owning both. The wide dispersion of the Revels works really well for home theater and I find I don’t need the added dynamics for movies.

Beautiful setup PAN!...only thing I did differently was adding some movie posters on the wall that were in glass frames. I was able to do this because my entire wall is acoustic material so the posters were not too reflective.

Thanks! The AV10 and AMP10 have been pure bliss and perfection. Zero issues. I ran Audyssey, not Dirac as I have no clue how to operate that yet. I also recently bought a total system from Kaleidescape. Strato C player and their new flagship Terra Prime SSD server. Movies have never looked and sounded so good. Omg.

You need some PSA, JTR, or Rythmik subs in there for the finishing touch 👌. With those SVS your missing and entire octave of content and theres a TON of content between 5-15hz. Even the PB16 FR falls off a cliff around 14-16hz unfortunately. Otherwise love the room and speaker(Revel) selection.

Hey Pan. I think we live in the same neighborhood!! I’m pretty knowledgeable with Dirac and have set up many systems. I had Revel and changed for totem metals last year. Running Arcam processor with parasound amps. 120” screen with a RS2000.2 JL f112’s and 2 Seaton submersives. We should get together.

Hehe watching any movie or TV series on it is so freaking amazing! No movie theater gives me the same level of quality and intimate movie experience. You really have to experience it to believe it. All my friends and family who have watched a movie on it can't believe the level of visual bliss and audio nirvana. They are always left speechless. Also, since this video, I added the new flagship Kaleidescape setup with a Strato C player, and the new Terra Prime SSD server. The video audio quality is as good as it gets, making my Oppo UPD-203 4K Blu-Ray player obsolete! Hehe.

I go overboard with all my passions (have you seen my new Hifi stereo setup video??). But Kaleidescape are digital master files by the way, not physical discs. Even 4K Blu-Ray discs have some form of compression (although minor compression compared to Netflix or streaming movies from Apple TV for example). Kaleidescape is a system that allows you to get the studio master files directly from the studios. The same files that are sent to movie theaters. Those files are uncompressed video and audio, and are much larger than your typical 4K Blu-Ray disc movie file size. So you download the file (on a high speed internet fiber connection like mine, a 4K movie only takes 5 minutes on average) and then it's stored on the movie server. The player and server are connected through ethernet, wired connection. No worrying about laggy internet connections or streaming playback. And you get the best video and audio quality possible. It's really insane.

The up mixing of 5.1 rendered movies with 4 height channels IMO is where it's at. Personally I've had some better listening experiences with 5.1 rendered movies with four height channels hooked up, then listening to some actual Dolby Atmos content. One is not just maximising the Best of Both Worlds, but when listening to 5.1 with four height channels. What little audio does decide to come out, it doesn't just come out more often but it also tends to stay out a lot longer too 😊

That is an amazing setup for sure. I particularly love that beast of a center channel, which is the most important speaker in a surround setup. You mentioned a couple of times the importance of minimizing reflections. Your speakers are gloss black, which are like mirrors. Do you find that distracting when watching a movie?

Nah. For home theater, you really want the full Atmos surround setup. Once you experience a high end setup like mine, with proper acoustic treatments and calibration, you can’t go back. I also have a super high end HiFi stereo setup and I wouldn’t use it for home theater.

I have not and suspect they are great. Arc, for me, just allows a level of flexibility in tuning that leaves others behind. I also use REW for the subs before Anthem. Regardless you have a great setup. Cheers

I haven't looked into ARC, or the Dirac room correction on my Marantz (I just used the Audyssey MultEQ XT32) but I suspect having a pro audio calibration done by a Dirac expert will likely bring the audio to that next level. That's one thing I'm looking into. Also, since this video, I added the new flagship Kaleidescape setup with a Strato C player, and the new Terra Prime SSD server. The video audio quality is as good as it gets, making my Oppo UPD-203 4K Blu-Ray player obsolete! Hehe. What is the rest of your home theater gear by the way?

The buttkicker is a device that vibrates your couch. It has its own amp and connects with your subs. Any explosion, gun fire or the like will be felts coming up through your seat. I mounted mine directly inside my couch and installed soft rubber feet on my couch to insure that vibrations would be felt clearly

Merci! Depuis la vidéo, j'ai acheté un système hyper haut de gamme Kaleidescape. Un lecteur Strato C et leur tout nouveau serveur Terra Prime SSD. Ça permet de télécharger des fichiers en "master" directement des studios de tournages, sans compression vidéo ou audio (car oui même les disques 4K Blu-Ray ont un certain niveau de compression). C'est absolument dingue le résultat!!

L’écran de 120 pousses est impressionnant en personne. La caméra ne rend pas justice. Depuis le tournage, j’ai aussi acheté un système haut de gamme complet Kaleidescape. Lecteur Strato C et serveur Terra Prime SSD pour télécharger les versions master des films non compressés directement sourcés des studios de tournage. La qualité de son et d’image sont le nec plus ultra pour tout cinéphile. Ça rend mon lecteur Oppo obsolète hehe.

Do what sounds good to you and your budget. If you hear a sonic difference and have the budget, then by all means indulge into your passion. If you truly can't hear a difference after A & B comparisons or simply don't have the budget, then don't do it. It shouldn't matter. What matters is enjoying listening to music at the end of the day, on the best system you can afford.

4K Blu-Ray was my main source, until recently when I just purchased a new super high end Kaleidescape setup with a Strato C player and Terra Prime SSD server. That allows me to download the original uncompressed studio movie masters, for even higher quality compared to 4K discs.
