You didn't mention RF direct sampling (no superheterodyne intermediate frequency). I think that's a huge thing and the main reason for the existence of the 6200. IFs have been the way to do radio for 100 years. Direct sampling (DRFS, Direct Radio Frequency Sampling) should help a lot with weak-signal work, as well as offering a lot more flexibility for software upgrades and maybe even lower (or higher?) heat generation. Maybe help with birdies, maybe hurt with rejection. No idea. I'm guessing the radical change of direct sampling SDR is going to make all the manufacturers concentrate the majority of their development on them. So the 6100 might be left in the dustbin by the 6200. Or direct sampling technology may be immature and take a few years to get right, and the 6200 could be horrible. Icom has been using it for their newer radios (as well as a lot of the low-end cheap Chinese radios). Either way, I think that's what differentiates the 6200 from the 6100, not these little differences in the external hardware. Except the removable battery. That's a big plus. If you keep chasing next year's model, you'll never buy anything in tech. So I'm buying a 6100 today!

I was hoping for a 6100 with 20w and no birdies all over thr place to rival the G90. And they produced this....I guess I didn't need another transceiver anyway.

I'd love to know what they're going to charge for this thing. The low power output is really disappointing. It should be 10W on battery and 20W via external power.

I agree, more power would be better. I am not sure the output power limitation is due to the size of the radio or not.

if thats correct seems too high. Can get a 705 for £1350 at the moment. No tuner but QRP tuners are cheap enough.

20w and a 2m option would make it attractive, but I already have those in an IC-7000, albeit heavier. If I get the other ham projects done, it could be an interesting experimental platform, like the x6100.

Well thanks for the info. I have a 6100..and seeing the many problems the 6100 had.but whatever the 6200 does i also own the icom 705 and it has a long way to go to compete with that radio period.

I think the X in the X6xxx series means experimental and that is OK, we are a hobby of experimenters. As more and more information becomes available on the X6200, it is starting to look to be not much more than some basic improvements over the X6100. It does give people options.

@@darylcheshire1618 No but LAB599 have a clock-shift function on the TX500 that removes the issue. Xiegu should do the same.

Birdies are a byproduct of the receiver technology and you will never get rid of them. At best they will be masked by firmware voodoo to make you think they are not there.

...interesting...but I'm skeptical...I would prefer a real all band with all the local fm, uhf and vhf utility freax like '70s boat anchors with the carry handles and slide rule tuning- albeit digital.

This new X6200 has the potential, repeat potential, for being a great radio -- IF, repeat IF, all the features work as advertised, quality control was consistent, and if Xiegu properly supports it with regular firmware updates that fix bugs, all of which have been problems with the X6100. It blows my mind that Xiegu abandoned the X6100 soon after its release and have now come out with a new similar model. My expectations for this new product are very low. I will not buy until I have seen evidence that this will not be another X6100.

Specs you showed say 8 Watts on external power now! They must have decided to accept what the 6100 was doing much of the time

Thank you for verifying that someone was paying attention to the video. 😃😁 I am not sure is any of these radios truly achieve the stated power output. I notice the other day on the X6100, the power display stated that I was pushing over 12 watts on FT8.

The max power of 8w is a little disappointing.. should at least 8watts on battery with 20 watts on mains power.

I hope it's better than the X6100. It's not a serious radios what with the voltage and temperature issues, burning out the finals due to lack of sufficient heat dissipation, susceptibility to AM overload, etc. And, RiCBU put their software to shame! The PMR171 is a much, much better radio for the money.
