Despite some of the obvious limitations of the video (lots of driving in car / unsteady) the parts that were clear were some of the best tornado footage out there! Stunning storm system with some incredible footage… well done
I agree. That was one mean tornado. Your statement of "some of the best tornado footage out there" is 100% accurate. I saw one of the Tuscaloosa Al. tornado with multiple vortices that was terrifying. The closeup footage of this beast is outstanding.
Facts you both, There was a Tornado that hit a state,Where some dudes where in a Montel where a violent Tornado riddle a Tornado alarm,They was secs. From death if they don't get in the door in time,The Tornado was some most terrific Twister vlogs l'd seem on RU-vid.
Well that took off in a hurry.. from just a single column to two funnels merging then just becoming a massive wedge. Unbelievable, glad I get to watch it from my recliner!
dominic hocutt just beef cattle now. I used to have horses, but my job was crazy and I didn’t have time for them. I miss them, I would love to have a couple again
When I see these massive tornados all I can think is what people must have e thought way back in ancient times when shit like this happened Events like this create gods and religions
The 1925 Tri-State Tornado eyewitness accounts cover it pretty thoroughly. Even knowing what tornadoes are most people had no idea there could be a tornado that big and didn't think it was a tornado
@4:20 mins, this is where drone footage would be unbeatable! To be able to see over that tree line at the base of the condensation funnel would be perfect! Still great footage though. Seeing those clouds spinning so fast and getting pulled in to the votes is really breathtaking. Nice work sir!
I saw a video with drone footage last week… I mean, it was okay but the winds that are swirling around limit on how close you can get to the darned thing!
That's a good idea, but unless the tornado is going through a major metropolitan area where they regularly deal with such things (like OKC), you can't always find live updates on the radio. Last weekend I was chasing storms and was actually trying to find weather on my car radio. I scanned the entire AM and FM bands... nothing.
@@xapianoman Very old reply but.. WOWO 1190AM and all the news stations had this on and were tracking it. The FM stations were interrupting their normal programming. Obviously 93.3 didn't but most did.
Here we have a massive wall cloud and tornado, but no tornado warning sirens are heard. Plus, this driver decided, not to turn on the radio for weather information. I'm totally shocked, at the lack of a tornado warning system, not in use.
I loved it when you were telling that lady to get going you showed the side mirror visual. Objects are closer than they appear. Hopefully not for your sake.
AWESOME FOOTAGE!! Did anyone else catch that at 3:28 - 3:34 ?? I’ve never seen anything like that before. Look closely for the right edge of the tornado, it looks like there’s a cloud literally making a vertical loop and then it gets sucked into the tornado and then you see it start again at 3:34. This is crazy intense and I can’t imagine the thrill of being that close to it. At one point it looks like a school bus is even passing
You're right. As a quite avid viewer of tornado footage new and old, I've never seen anything like this myself. The speed of that spin was obviously in the >200mph range, to say nothing of the angular momentum. As for what that actually is? Really can't be anything but a hint of a large horizontal vortex, like what we frequently saw in 2011, but larger in this case. Those have never been addressed or explained but it feels safe to conclude that an inflow jet, perhaps from the FFD, is getting added to the mix after entering a state of rotation. I've seen these horizontal vortices rise upward towards the cloud base. The only other new phenomenon I can even compare this to, in terms of how surprising it was to see for the first time ever, was the phenomenon of twin suction vortices. This was originally suggested by Fujita, who claimed to have spotted them in the Xenia footage, but I saw them for real in some footage of the El Reno tornado. A multi-vortex scenario where the individual vortices are occasional comprised of two distinct vortices rotating around one another. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who even picked up on this. But the El Reno tornado had a lot of unique circumstances to it.
I've seen other videos of big wedge tornadoes with that wild horizontal spin ups, seems it happens right in front of the funnel. It might have been the Tuscaloosa tornado. Tornadoes with those horizontal vortices are signs that it is exceptionally strong.
LOL! Not a single "Violent tornado! Violent tornado! Violent tornado!" or "Massive wedge! Massive wedge! Massive wedge!" Or, what Pecos Hank calls, "Twister Tourette's." Well done!
You do understand that he's about twice as close as it appears on a cell phone, right? It's usually rare for someone to get much closer due to a lack of roads and such. It's also much scarier in person to an untrained spotter/chaser to get much closer, nor should they. So, in short, dumb comment. He was quite close for an amateur.
Deran Hall Chill. I wasn’t complaining about the video, nor was I criticizing the boldness of the shooting. I just think the title was a bit misleading compared to the plethora of other tornado videos that really are “up close and personal.” Sorry if I offended one’s sensibilities.
I didn't even read where the tornado was until I heard you were listening to a local radio station. I remember this storm now. I was at work, and luckily this was south of me.
This tornado is similar to the ones that hit NE and Northern Indiana on April 11 1965.... People back then didn't know what it was and went out to watch them!!!!
That whole day was thick with super cells and tornadoes and the forecast didn't even mention them. It was one of those "off days" that caught everyone off guard...
The first tornado warnings I heard were just south of Lafayette, IN (I work there), as I headed back home. I got to the parking lot of my aparment complex in time to hear the warning for Kokomo. Madness, that day!
Up close!!!!! Up close trees, houses, factories, crops and your windows for awhile there buddy! That was a huge tornado though man!! Made me think of twister the movie with Shaina Twain singing in the back ground as Bill tell Joe it’s definitely a side winder!!!
You really could've had probably some of the best tornado footage if you'd just parked it early on and sat still. Always choose the near side of thee road.
Couldn't imagine how long it must have felt like to be in that tornado as it ripped through their homes. Not only was it really violent, but it was also so big that if you were right in the middle it probably took a good 2-5 minutes for it to pass over. Wholy shit
The Woodburn tornado is classified as a high EF-3 multi-vortex wedge. Some dispute arose about the rating as field researchers found EF-4 damage to a barn and a twisted tractor with its engine not found. It was a baddie.
This is Fantastic footage and steady camera work while driving. Nothing like Shania and a twister. Who needs the weather station on. You got front row seats.
I really admire how you didn't scream at all xD and y'all complaining don't realise how hard it is to keep steady when cars are zooming by you. Like idk how the camera guy didn't just fall over from that
This has to be the most violent twister I've ever seen. I've never seen a tornado that big spin that violently. If this wasn't rated an EF5 I'll be shocked.
@@patmo131 Then it had to be at least EF4 to do that, or maybe it did get an EF5 rating, who knows? But if it took that right turn, it had to have been at least a 4.
Depends on the damage it did. Research shows it was an a high end EF-3 just 6mph short of an EF-4. And patmo, any tornadoes can take a turn on the dime, not just powerful ones. Hence why they are the most dangerous type of storms.
How do you get "most violent tornado you've ever seen" from a rotating wall cloud? You clearly don't know what you're looking at, nor does anyone else commenting, far as I can tell. The only ground proof of an actual tornado was a couple of minutes into the video, and it was in the lower right quadrant of the storm. That big massive spinning column that takes up most of your screen is not a tornado and is not touching the ground.
@@carlmclemore6104 Still doesn't mean it wasn't violent, and I was referring to what was seen in the beginning of the video anwyay, so yes, I DID know what I was looking at sir. I know a violent tornado when I see one. You're the one who clearly doesn't know what YOU are looking at.
Has anyone noticed this? In the late ,60s and early 70s I would spend the summer with my dad in Indiana. My mom and I moved to PHX az when they divorced. My dad and I would spend lots of time watching the squall lines for funnel clouds. There was never a rotating meso cyclone . Never. They were never this big either. And tornado alley went right thru the states of Kansas Nebraska. But now they are everywhere all the time. I just find that interesting. Thank you.
You're not mistaken- tornado alley is indeed moving- some say. It seems to have drifted toward the east and now we're seeing more tornadoes in Tenn., Miss., Ala., Kentucky, Illinois, etc. But- maybe it's just a trend that will only last a short while- maybe it's a new pattern that we should get used to, or maybe they've misinterpreted the data- who knows. I will say this- I live in northwestern Al. and we are seeing more intense storms more often than usual- but I don't know why Some say its "global warming"- but you have to whisper when you say it or some angry person will come scream at you- I'm not saying that's the reason but- they did predict it, and it is happening so- you have to at least admit they got that much right. And it would make sense- warmer water leads to warmer air masses coming in off the ocean- warm and wet- and when that meets the cold, dry air from up north- we get stronger storms. The physics checks out- that's all I'm saying.
It might be like that cause there’s more people with cameras and more people who are after these all the time. There’s just more documented tornadoes now
@@stoneysdead689 tornado alley you’re talking about isn’t 100% true. Sure a majority of the most violent tornadoes occur there but what I would consider true tornado alley is anywheres between the Rockies and the Appalachian mountains.
Looking at that ever changing second layer of clouds at the very outset it appears just aching to branch off another funnel. I'm no chaser but I don't think I'd be getting very close to this one especially.
Great job by radio station US 93 (WBTU) keeping their listeners informed. Imagine if it were a real emergency.... Wait a second, it was a real emergency. They should lose their license!
“C’mon, lady, there’s nothin’ comin’!” MASSIVE tornado in the nearby horizon. Duh, dude. She was seeing what you were. 🌪 Think that might be why she was frozen? 🧠
When you listen to Shania Twain and somebody just sits at an intersection: “Geez, come on lady. There’s nobody coming.” When you don’t...”MOVE YOU STUPID ASS! YOU COULD HAVE GONE TWENTY FUCKING TIMES ALREADY!!” Note to self; more Shania Twain.
@@YTBruler1 okay, I looked back at the footage, and I saw the tornado. I stand corrected. Thank you both. I was sick that night in the extreme, and managed not to focus on a very obvious tornado. I apologize, and am sorry for the destruction.
Your username is way more misleading. I thought it was actually fucking Jennifer Lopez on here, man. No but for real.. this guy wasn't even close to it.. he a had a great, safe view of it. But of course I'm weird and even if I was that far away, I'd be freaking out that another tornado could start right above me so I'm not safe anywhere if I am standing outside and I can see a wedge tornado (or even a smaller tornado obviously) miles away from me... so now that I think about it..and according to my fear.. this guy is actually right lolol .. he is up close and personal hahahahahaha...
Michael Murphy the conditions that day weren't right for tornadoes... there were 3 that passed by my house in Kokomo and took the Starbucks down across the street
That's your opinion. Get off tornado vids if you can't appreciate their beauty. A lot of people find them beautiful, and your opinion is just that - an opinion. Don't state it like it's a fact.
They’re talking about just the physical cloud itself. All the fluffy things floating around like a carousel, all the changing shapes and motion in the structure.
My father was watching the entire thing happening I was in our small restroom scared out of my mind My father had not told me it was an EF4 tornado my dad said it looked like it was gonna hit woodlan
