A W210 AMG Wagon..... its a reliable M113 with out the "K" but its a car that happy at +155MPH with some okay fuel milage at those speeds..... plus it can easy fit an extra aux tank. In a race like that..... reliability is everything
A bmw 750d would be good aswell, the f01 has around 380hp stock, the one from 2016+ has over 400hp stock from a 3 litre diesel, they’re limited to 250kmh, but my dad used to own an e60 535d with 272hp and on the autobahn it would still have plenty of grunt to overcome atleast 160mph with the limiter took off
What if you took an old 2wd 12 valve Cummins with a NV 5600 six speed swap? You could fit much larger auxiliary fuel tanks in a pickup, could hide them with a camper shell or tonneau cover, and you can make 600-700 horse easy if not more.
the 335d in europe is amazing, you can keep 250km/h with no issues if you have a tuned one, and they are really good on the fuel economy, I had one myself.

13:07 I was actually thinking about this recently (but bear in mind I'm used to Europe). I think the new Audi S6 Avant (for the chassis) would be a strong contender if you swapped the 4.0 TDI V8 into it, you'll have 500+hp and 1000+Nm with just a tune, and you could house an enormous fuel cell in the back. It wouldn't really stand out on the roads either. But then again, that takes a lot of (expensive) work to prepare, and it won't work in the US because you guys barely have wagons anymore, like you pointed out. Would still be a really cool car though after the swap
In Germany there is a diesel v8 Version of the a8 with software its has about 1000nm and 500hp that would be a good choice for cannon balling mercedes or bmw dont have any diesel v8 in production ( audi had 6 liter v12 biturbo diesel a few years ago sadly in a q7 but that thing was quick it had 1000nm as it comes from the factory no other audi engine reached those levels again
Without having proof of a specific time, place, speed, and driver (there were 3 guys in the car, two drivers and a spotter) they can't charge anyone with anything.

The regular "A" models are plain - but you get into the S and RS models - oh hell no, not one bit like a Ford car! Have you seen the 2021 RS6 Avant? Oh Lord, the fender flares, etc!
If you make that RS7 car, you should come up with a removable tank for the back hatch and have people at your fuel up points with already filled tanks. Remove the empty one and put the full one in. Yes it’ll be heavy but 4 people would be able to lift it in alright and save a lot of fill up time. Just piss in bottles and shave like 80 minutes off your time. You’d be able to pump the last of your external into the car tank right before you stop. You’ll have to have a quick release to detach the old one and hook up the new one and your pumps would have to be in the car and not the tank... I bet you could do it!

Finally some adressing the obvious Diesel question! He's obviously right that the Diesel won't accellerate the same way. I still wonder if you don't loose more time during the fuel stops than the better accelleration cuts off. You can either cover a longer distance with the same amount of fuel, or fill up in less time with a smaller fuel cell with a diesel. And the way lower fuel consumption in parts where you can't go fast is immense. It also is very silent and won't be noticed by sound from afar like the free breathing tuned V8's.
A Volvo V60 with a tuned D5 engine (350 Hp) and a gas tank big enough for two stops. Refueling in truck stops for a bigger gas flow. Also using night vision goggles would help to go fast at night for the beginning in New York and the end in California.
These guys should install a cell phone signal blocker or interceptor. Set it up so the calls are directed to you. They make these things for police/government
Alex, I can think of a Audi/VW Diesel that could be swapped into station wagon/estate. 5.0 V10 TDI from the old Touareg. Could get some power from that....
I will say the S6 looks so much better than the E63. I got only an A6 at 500hp, and I love it. I would love to get an S8 and bring it up to 800-900hp. They do 0-60 in 2.6-2.9s. A diesel Audi or BMW tuned would have a ton of power and a crazy range.
That's because European petrol is based on RON (Research Octane Number) but in North America we use a number that's RON / MON *2 . An average of both values. So 93 is equivalent to 100 or 102.

Maybe a diesel truck? Say a LBZ 6.6 Duramax. Throw some love and a live tune at it and fill the box with fuel cells. Put some sort of bio hazard decals and a capper on it 😏
That was the baddest fake cop car in the world!! Would it be illegal to have a light bar on your roof that only had amber or white lights, just for the extra effects? Amazing video subject! Please do a follow up! I'd really like to get as much information on the car prep work that goes into making a Cannonball car. You know, making it actually last the entire run without breaking and all the counter measures and how difficult it is to research and implement all of these. But thanks so much for a glimpse into that world!

I said a year ago, "No one will break the Cannon Ball Run record again." Everyone has a cell phone and if people get passed on the freeway at 130+ mph, they call the cops. It's interesting how these guys accounted for that, a car that looks like a police car, a switch to turn off the tail lights.

Mark these words. There will be a record setting run with either a modified truck, suv with suspension to handle the extra fuel tanks to run coast to coast with very few stops.
Done it in the 80s and even made a movie about it. The time savings is in not getting police calls about a speeding vehicle at 120 mph. An Audi is just faster to 180 than a Ford suv if it can even go that fast safe.
I was going to comment on your question about running a diesel as it was a brilliant one and to suggest some of the European performance diesels like the BMW X5 M50d or Audi A8 V8 TDI or even a VW Touareg V10 TDI and saw that as few had already mentioned this! I think it would make a really good challenge.
I loved this video.. I would have given it two thumbs up if it was possible. I would love to see one of the late model Ford Explorer's used for a Cannonball Run.
