Well things were much easier back then. Only difference is cell phones hadn't been invented yet. Life was a whole lot more simple. Kids weren't addicted to their screens or computers back then. Entertainment was all about getting a guitar and playing a song by yourself or watching something on the television set.
@@suzieqwonder3089 That really brings back memories. When I was growing up in the early 70's, the store owner near my house would give us 5 cent for every bottle we returned. People were always throwing bottles out beside the road back then. We would pick up 5 bottles a piece and exchange them for a quarter. We would buy a candy bar for 10 cent and a soft drink for 15 cent. The store owner never charged us kids tax. The store owner was such a good person and always doing things to help people in the neighborhood.
The "real gentleman" she's refering to, Mr. Fields, would end up attepting to steal Mrs. Mendlebright's purse, and Andy and Barney caught him just in time to arrest him. Barney got gassed on the apple cider. A) A guy moves into town. 2) He has no job. C) he wants to marry Mrs. Bendlemright. 🤣

The lady who played Mrs. Mendelbright probably reminded Don of his elderly mother which could have been one of the reasons he got emotional at the end when he said how much he liked her.

Well, in 2020 dollars, it would be around $52.00 a week, around $2,700 per year. But it's a room, not an APARTMENT, he can't prepare hot food, about oh, 120 sq.ft. tops, a rural, uneventful small town, and a fastidious landlord. Back then, a tolerable place to LIVE. Today, not a bad place to flop 🛌

The actress who played Mrs. Mendelbright, Enid Markey also played the first Jane in the silent film “Tarzan of the Apes”. Dons mother ran a boarding house in Morgantown, West Virginia where I attended college and for a long time Don didn’t have a bedroom and slept on chairs in the kitchen. Might be why they wrote Barney living in a boarding house.
Mrs. Mendelbright probably reminded Don of his mother Elsie which may be why he got so emotional when Barney told her how much he cared for her at the end of the episode.😊😊
Technically isn't Barney breaking the law by cooking and a one bedroom apartment where you're not allowed to cook I'm just throwing it out there maybe I'm wrong.
