I really want it to be 12/8 so i don´t have to look at the number three so many times.

I played this in high school band and was constantly annoyed that it was written in 4/4 with a million triplets rather than the 12/8 it was clearly supposed to be. I had the same issue with the arrangement of Battle Hymn of the Republic we used.

Composers at Remote Control Productions are not trained to use terrifyingly complex compound quadruple meters and such.

This is a really great video (and you've got a fantastic channel in general, subbed!). Love the in-depth analysis and the way you highlight individual sections of interest in the sheet music. My only nitpick (and this is a REALLY nitpicky nitpick) is that I think you got the A and B phrases of the love theme mixed up; I think the rising line is actually the B-phrase, and the longer, more dynamic melody beginning with the descending fourth is the main, A phrase. If you listen to the full statements of the love theme towards the end of the album in "One Day" and "Drink Up Me Hearties" (or the "Marry Me" suite from the boxset), you'll notice that they start with the longer melody, move on to the ascending one and then finally the less-frequently-heard C-phrase, which is the sweeping one that starts with the big dramatic sixth leap (e.g. when Will and Elizabeth kiss in the maelstrom battle/wedding scene).

Do you have the pdf score reductions available somewhere? I find them hard to read/study in a RU-vid video.

They can be bought if you are interested, just do a quick Google search and you should be able to find something, but they are moderately expensive, at least in my estimation.

This cue was reportedly ghostwritten by Henry Jackman.
@Superultramegaa19
@Superultramegaa19 6 лет назад
Co-written. His ghost writers (people he often admits to helping him, himself), don't actually write anything for him. He's writing the cues with them because he enjoys collaborating.
@drewcollier1138
@drewcollier1138 6 лет назад
This one is confusing. I'm leaning toward the idea that Jackman wrote or arranged the whole cue off the end of the "Marry Me" suite that I assume Zimmer wrote.

It's a great piece of music and is really fun, beautiful at times too. However, it feels more like the composer just wrote a catchy song for the scene. There's no real cues as such. The music doesn't react to what is happening on screen, it's more just a series of 8-bar phrases (which don't get me wrong, they're catchy) played out whilst this scene unfolds. This is a problem with film music these days. Composers aren't writing music to enhance the action/dialogue on screen. It's just catchy backing music. It works, but it wouldn't be out of place in a theme park queue line for a Swashbuckling Pirate ride.
@ConnorGriffinMusic
@ConnorGriffinMusic 4 года назад
There are a number of moments where the cue reacts to the scene. It gives a brief pause for Barbossa's "He's on to it!" line, it backs off for the comedy of Pintell and Ragetti tied upside down to the mast... the modulations accentuate the feeling of the boat shifting further and further left and right before it finally flips over. Film music doesn't have to be Tom and Jerry reacting to every little thing on screen to enhance the scene.
@adam4757
@adam4757 4 года назад
@@ConnorGriffinMusic I agree somewhat by what you have said. But I stand by this could be generic adventure/pirate music in blasted out in an area in a theme park, and I doubt anyone would think it out of place.
@justinbrown4795
@justinbrown4795 4 года назад
I actually wanted to try and see if I could make a video describing just how much this scene interacts with the soundtrack. From the modulations being times with the rocking of the ship to the love themes coming back to show relationships forming again and just, so much happening. Honestly it's probably one of my favorite if not my favorite scene from the franchise.
