@@electricdreams9446 No,if the spire of Ste Chapelle ,nearby, attracted thunder and had to be rebuilt seven times ,Notre-Dame was never completed and the seven spires intended were never built (explaining the two square towers at the front of the building ,still missing their spires );it is only in the 19th C that the restorer,to give the cathedral a more elegant outline ,added one single spire at the crossing , the very one that burnt down.

Macron simply stated that Notre-Dame would reopen for 2024.The archbishop instead would love to have laser lights installed in the side chapels that could project biblical quotations in many languages,due to the number of visitors coming from so many countries .But being a catholic priest,he would never think of promoting other faiths .The idea is presently promoted by a clergyman serving in the church ,but it doesn't seem to arouse much enthusiasm from some French catholics.Nevertheless the debate will be between the archbishopric and their faithful,and no member of the government nor of the Historic Commission will ever tell their mind,since the interior of the gothic building has been left to the catholic cult and laser lights will not damage the walls anyway.

Notre-Dame was vandalized during the French Revolution ,but restored thanks to Victor Hugo's novel ,for like all the romantic artists ,he loved medieval buildings and wished it would be restored.By the way,Victor Hugo WAS anti-royalist and a free-thinker.And the revolution of 1830-1831 did not cause damage to buildings and was so little "anti-royalty" that it brought king Louis-Philippe to power Do not mix up history with your own political beliefs.
