I know how Zlim concluded that this "Reverend" thing - is anything like Blood: by solving the riddle of guess the third item in a sequence: "carrot, particle accelerator..." 🤣
Love your energy, man! Thanks for bringing obscure indies to the spotlight, what you are doing is sooo important. With the way the AAA industry keeps shooting itself in the foot, indies truly are the future.
Hey have you heard the bad news from Fortune's Run developers...it is VERY sad; it would be nice if we could show some support for them, because this is one heck of an immersive game concept.
@@ZlimBratSkithat was first place i checked but was looking at it on mobile and saw nothing. I only go to "x" if all other avenues have failed...lol... What a silly name "x!" Hahahaha
@@HexenStarin that it shares a general 'gothic horror' vibe but that's about it. In terms of graphics and gameplay, it looks more like something south American Van Helsing made to train his military of monster slayers in the late 90s because the engine was the only thing cheap enough to license at the time, and the tax payers had just voted a peace platform candidate into office
Good format, concise yet filled with information. Played the original Empty Shell and really liked it, hadn't heard of the sequel so I'll definitely be giving that a go.
I like fps games where the players hands are jankily scanned photos or real hands rather than hand-drawn (lol) animation. Gives a game that delicious low budget look ala Varghina Incident or TekWar
I appreciate you are including other shooter types. Also, yeah, I have no idea what inspires so many people to make so many roguelikes, but I rarely am interested in them. If the art, gameplay, or perspective seems enough up my alley, I wishlist. Otherwise, ignored.
Gestalt and Reverend i liked the most out of these games! (Maybe a Bi Monthly Would be better? i could imagine that it is a bit too much, especially for you the work!) but otherwise nothing to complain about🤘
Alright Zlim? I gotta ask....at 0:23 when you say 'Blood, gore, brutal action!'........or more specifically, 'Blood'.....did you plan to say that over the footage of Revernend?
Thats very true! Not sure you saw my coop video? Its quite old. But overall im a real lone wolf sp type of guy, whenever im forced into coop tho its always a blast 😂
5:30 the whole "souls like" marketing is something to be careful with imo. It might appeal to the casual player who hasn't experienced the fromsoft games, but for veteran players, we have come to expect very tight, fast paced gameplay with a high risk/reward ethic encouraging skill based play. If it's too easy or strays too far into the hack n slash genre, it may be branded as false and be rejected. I would hate for that to happen to an otherwise great game who's only mistake was being compared to an often ill-defined and thus misused marketing buzzword
I agree with every single word you say here. And it can also be off putting to the more hack and slash type of game like myself. Anytime I read "souls" i usually get turned off.
@@ZlimBratSki Right! I respect trying to blend genres in a creative way, but when a game lacks the mechanics of one of the influences, I would think that just leads to angry reviews. That said, i haven't played it nor seen gameplay besides that which you have here. So it could be a wonderful game I would love, as such I will reserve criticism! Cheers brother
As someone who dislikes FromSoft games, but DOES NOT dislike Souls-likes - i'd say that when i hear "souls-like", it usually means three things: A - enemies will constantly respawn, B - tons of pointless walking around, C - artificially created hurdles to impair the smoothness of gameplay. As result, depending on how interesting the game world is and how well the developers abstained from or chose to implement the "three curses" - would be the decisive factor, at least as far as i am concerned. And there are some great examples of smart devs working around the "three curses" intelligently. Some people actually love the "three curses" - but i guess they are the kind that lives somewhere at the Firelink Shrine with NPC friends, and only eats and sleeps on planet Earth, - and only so because technology so far didn't invent a way to replace these options with the in-game ones. 🤪
@@HexenStar thanks for sharing such a detailed take rather than the usual "too hard" or "dark fantasy is lame" type of stuff you sometimes will see in game criticism
@@HexenStar Speaking of, I've played a few S-like games and I really liked Mortal Shell. Could have used a few layers of extra polish but for being such a small development, they implemented some wonderful and very fresh mechanics such as the hardened shell. It was like parrying but being able to exploit s as long as you want, with all the invincibility that entails!
Once again ZlimBratSki delivers the pew pews right to us like the swedish dad he is. I am not sure about Vorax as I quite struggle with survival mechanics like having to eat/drink in games if it's not just for buffs or health. But it looks cool as hell so I might gather more info before choosing if I play it or not. Only time will tell...
You missed the rather important piece of info about Gestalt" Steam & Cinder being of the metroidvania subgenre. This is as important to know as a game being a roguelite or a soulslike or what-have-you.
Don't advertise the Discord too hard, it's so cozy in there Vorax and Flintlock are the only one that interest me. Thought Flintlock silently got canceled. Has been a while since i played a third person game. Well, until in half an hour when i can finally start Vanquish. Earl Vs. The Mutants looks like fun too, reminds me of Zombie Driver.
No way. Realms was a masterpiece. One of the best games ever made, period. And the puzzles in the end - not for the average minds, lol. No comparison here.
@@davidcordova9155 Well, to be fair to Realms of the Haunting, you could've brought up the 3DO version of Killing Time (console version, not the poor PC clone!). It was a lot closer in terms of digitized images, art-direction and overall quality. Speaking of which, the quality of sprite-work and textures in Realms - was astounding. The trees alone were something unreal for a sprite based game. And let's not forget that the exploration in that game was phenomenal, it was like a real Indiana Jones thing, with your companion/love interest commenting and bantering back and forth, it was fun to get the background on different things in real time, as if you were there. And the story too - all 4 discs of it, with St. Michael himself making an appearance, undead Templars and whatnot... It only needed a little more gun-action in the 2nd half of the game, like what the aforementioned Killing Time had going. It was a blast nonetheless, and it still is.👍
