Transforming an inexpensive vintage cabinet-armoire on a budget is easy and fun once you know how to apply fabric decoupage techniques. The result is a designer finish that feels smooth and is durable and easy to clean.
Living your best life in a small space means putting a custom touch on the furniture pieces you have in your tiny space. The cabinet makeover I did on my dining room armoire created a standing art piece that goes with everything in a room.
Many people know how to decoupage paper onto a box or picture frame, and decoupaging fabric is the same concept. I share my designer finish that will upgrade your furniture or cabinet.

I was watching this video and I was distracted because I was thinking why do I recognize her? It finally hit me I think it was small space big style where you had caviar tins on the wall, boat straps, and paper flowers. Loved you than love you now! The cabinet looks fabulous! Thank you for your inspiration!

HI!! It’s been a few years between caviar tins! I loved those so much I repurposed them into the kitchen of my beach rental! Since you last saw me I made a trek from NYC back to my hometown of San Diego. I still find myself living and decorating small spaces… now with a more coastal chic sensibility. Thanks for finding me. Hope to see you for the next episode!

I love your video!! Original, eccentric and elegant! Great job! I subscribed right away because you’re a breath of fresh air. You could have used transfers and fancy paint, instead you used items that most of us have access to. IMO transfers are everywhere. I don’t want to have the same as everyone else, especially if I make it. Loved the secretary desk and the display of your mom’s S&P collection. Keep creating and sharing, please! Blessings!

It turned out beautifully. The dishes with the salt & pepper collection is a priceless idea. So much better than statically displaying them. Now looking at the wall behind the cabinet, I could visualize that being cloth as well. The design has that look to it. Now I have another idea spinning in my head. lol

Thank you, Linda. I love that this project has your creative mind spinning. There are so many possibilities once you practice the basic decoupage technique. A good starter project is using the liquid starch technique since you can easily peel it off and start again if the design starts to get wonky. Have a great weekend!

What type of sealant did you use? Thank you
@NutshellLiving
@NutshellLiving Месяц назад
Hi! I used Polycrylic sealant in a matte finish. It doesn’t turn yellow on you like many varnishes do, and there is no harsh smell: a.co/d/7hrzW0z Any hardware store sells it. Best of luck. Let me know how your projects works out. Reach out if you have further questions. I’ve made all the mistakes so you don’t have to.

80 IS not affordable for most
@NutshellLiving
@NutshellLiving Месяц назад
You are correct. I apologize for not giving this project cost more context. I was evaluating the price per yard of some of the designer fabrics and wallpaper I was researching for a project like this at about $45/50 a yard. The total yardage needed to cover an armoire this size was 6 yards divided by $80= $13/yard, which is a fair price even at your local Joann Fabrics. I try to offer the inspiration for projects that can be resourced high or low depending on your budget. You can even decoupage designer sheets bought at Home Goods or TJMaxx that would lower the price of the project. Thank you for your feedback.

So excited by this video! I agree with a previous commenter. So tired of transfer crafts. Yes, some of the florals are beautiful. But love the uniqueness of this piece! And thank you for showing us how you did it. Not sure I’m ready to tackle a piece like this, but learned a lot. 😊
@NutshellLiving
@NutshellLiving Месяц назад
@@margiebell6825 thank you so much for watching. True decoupage is so classic and “old school.” Maybe that’s why I like it. All of my decoupage projects have stood the test of time. I decoupaged blue and white chinoiserie fabric onto my nightstands, and they still look great years later. Hope to see you for the next episode.
