Update 1.2.0 is Out and Almost ALL Glitches are Gone… The Legend of Zelda Tears of The Kingdom News, Glitches & Guides
So it has been 5 weeks since update 1.1.2 and 6 hours ago Nintendo released Update 1.2.0 for Tears of The Kingdom. Right here you will find out if the wait was worth it or if you might want to hold onto your game version for now.
They gave us patch notes with it but as usual with Nintendo, the update does more than what they say. If you are the type of person to be interested in Duping… I have some bad news for you. But lets get into the patch notes before we look at what they took from us.
So as always, most of the patch is focussed on fixing bugs. There apparently were a bunch of quests where your game could glitch out and prevent you from finishing those quests. It fixes 8 quests in total, 2 of those being main quests. If you were one of the unlucky ones that had these issues, you can finally play the game again!
Besides that they fixed a bug with Kiana in Lurelin Village and one where Fairies wouldnt appear even though they should have.
Now the most interesting thing this update provides is a new function. If you are connected to the nintendo servers, you will soon be able to start a news channel application on the switch and doing so will you give you a bunch of items in Tears of The Kingdom. We don’t know the items yet but it is probably similar to what you get from Amiibos.
Now what they did NOT disclose in the patch notes is that they removed almost ALL duplication glitches and some very useful zonai build glitches.
The first one of those is the all beloved duplication glitch in Tobio’s Hollow. It allowed you to shoot arrows with items attached and let all the shot items be duped. What now happens is that the items and arrows disappear once they land. This was by far the most efficient material duping glitch so for now we will need to find another way to get to similar duping speeds.
Another dupe glitch that they fixed is the shock emitter duplication glitch that you could do in Links house close to Tarrey Town. This was one of the few glitches that let you dupe weapons, shields and bows.
Another glitch, one of the best in the game, was called fuse entanglement. This allowed you to dupe items connected to shields and also among other things allowed you to connect items INSIDE of each other. This was generally one of the more whackier glitches with lots of more uses to be found.
Now the last glitch that is removed was the interaction between extreme weather and auto-build. This could be used for duping food in cold weather to sell it for rupees. And in hot weather it could be used to create zonai builds that are connected through the air.
With this now removed, I think the only useful glitch that remains is the glitch that needs you to throw an item and load the game to an earlier state at the right time to dupe the thrown item.
Tomorrow I will do a video showcasing all the 1.1.2 glitches to make it easier for you to decide if you should update. Also there is one glitch that might be possible to bring over to 1.2 even though it is fixed! But more on that tomorrow..

It's so weird considering that BotW's development philosophy was "If it's a fun glitch, leave it in" but now TotK's philosophy is "Oh they're having FUN? ANNIHILATE THEM." Edit: To avoid more people commenting something like "Nuh uh they would've patched out those glitches if they knew", they did know about a few popular ones as stated in an interview and purposely left them in because they were fun.

The philosophy was always to get rid of glitches. The reason the glitches were, and still are, in Breath of the Wild was that the bulk of them were discovered following the final update of the game and the devs said they were done with maintaining updates. All the glitches that were discovered were discovered after that announcement, so it wasn't like Nintendo kept them in because they were generous, they were kept in because they didn't bother, they were focusing on the new game. Although I'd argue a great deal of dev time for TotK was do prevent the glitches from BotW from repeating.

It's really not though. All of BotW's famous glitches were just discovered after it's development cycle was complete and Nintendo was no longer patching the game. Imagine if BLSS or Durability Transfer were discovered day one, they'd have been patched out immediately.

Haha to be fair, I think they are watching Twitter more than RU-vid. If I recall correctly, Japan is one of the heavy users of Twitter worldwide and many of these glitches are shown in small clips on the platform as well. So I'd say blame Twitter for exposing these techs imo haha.

@@r3gret2079 I believe you are missing the point I mentioned. Japan is a heavy user of twitter as almost HALF of the entire population uses the platform daily. It's not just a means to see social media, but to be easily alerted of earthquakes, floods, or accidents in general. It is about the daily and consistent usage of this platform which is why these clips get easily circulated. I mean, in less than 2 months we have received 3 patches that are heavily doubling down on fixing glitches.

@@GottaLoveDepecheMode thats kinda scary when you let that sink in, updates are not really that common. normally games that do get regular updates have a dual phase..1st is the new feature then later on a balance patch. update then patch, update then path. with TOTK its patch, patch, patch but im just greatful these are GOOD BUGS rather than game breaking bugs. Personally I grind for my items, and im rich enough farming lynels and gleeoks for money, BUT im going to upgrade my gear to the max soon and also why shouldnt all gear have lynel/gleeok fusions?! in short im still in version 2 and will be going to Tobias Hollow soon. maybe ill update once i get 999 of diamonds and dragon parts just to buffer myself later on when i do update later on.

Imagine if Super Mario Bros 1 didn't had the classic glitches it has because everything was patched out. I'll keep playing on 1.1.2 with my duping until a good reason to update appears.. better than to grind for random crappy items until the end of time...

There's ways to revert the version to 1.1.1 and probably even 1.0. Doesnt seem like they're going to release any dlc anytime soon so it's worth the effort for the time being for anyone who hates the way Nintendo is patching everything out

@@marcfuchs6938 and besides the argument that some people use "it's not a online multiplayer game" I'd also like to add to the fact that the reward we get to play and grind a lot on zelda and other similar games is basically "super easy mode unlocked", the more we play the less challenging the game becomes. So why shouldn't I use duplication glitches based on that premise.. lol

As someone who played through the game without trying to use glitches, I have to ask why is everyone so upset about them being removed? Any player can easily obtain hundreds of items legitimately, you can rematch bosses to quickly get your battery pack upgraded, and get all the rewards for each quest. The only things I can think of being worth duping are weapons and fairies, but duping fairies is basically playing a survival game in creative mode without any perks and weapons can be easily fused to give massive damage buffs.

Convenience and speedrunning, mostly. There’s also the fact that it’s not easy to grind Rupees without them (that I’ve seen, at least). Not to mention the cool stuff like Entanglement or whatever it’s called? People have made like, remote controlled planes with that, and it’s a shame to see it go.

@@davidhower7095 Rupees really are a non-issue to grind. Austin John Plays has a great video, and when he crunches the numbers on his preferred method he got ~6k rupees in gems within ~12 minutes by grinding out 5 or so rare ore stone taluses, including 7(!) diamonds. Knew where they were, had a good weapon for them, just fast travel and turn them into gravel. "Fast & Easy Rupee Farming and Rare Ore Farming for Tears of the Kingdom" is the title of the video, since RU-vid hates links, but just searching "AJP rupee grinding" should pull it up as first result, too. He goes over the other popularly proposed non-glitch methods of farming rupees, and how none of them match up to rare ore taluses.

Most people just don't enjoy endless grinding, which Tears of the Kingdom has a ton more than Breath of the Wild. You need tons of zonite, tons of large zonite, tons of weapon attachments, tons of ruppees because armor and upgrade prices have been inflated beyond believe, all that on top of the stuff you already had to grind in BotW. And most of these simply aren't fun. They're just tedious busiwork to pad the game. They don't have a challenge behind them like the koroks or require great skill like redoing the bosses. Most of them are just about spending endless hours breaking rocks. People use duplication glitches to skip the boring stuff and get back to the fun stuff like doing quests, fighting or building new Autobuild devices.

Why do they patch the game? Like really, if that’s how someone chooses to play it that’s their choice, me for instance iv beaten the game. Noes when I can fool around but since they removed the glitches I can’t really do that. Sure it’s their game but I paid for my copy, leave it the fuck alone

Yeah. They should obviously patch the bad glitche, like the glitches the patchnotes mention where you simply couldn't finish some quests or parts of the game broke. But why not leave the fun glitches in that hurt noone? It's a single player game, it won't break the online economy and people who don't like these glitches can just not use them, they were so obscure that there was no way to run into them on accident

Im still on 1.1 because i am trying to 100% the game. Currently 350+ hours in ive used more than 30,000 ruppees on upgrading most of my outfits, havent found all of them yet btw. 650/1000 on koroks, 70+ jems away from kilton, got all but 3 spirit sage wills, and still probably nowhere near done on all the side quests. TLDR: this glitch was a godsend and a time savor because im still looking at at least 50 more hrs of TOTK vs 100+ hours grinding for materials/ruppees

I had gotten the clearing out the pirates quest glitch, where all the pirates were killed but it was still showing a small sliver of pirate forces. However, waiting until blood moon and killing them all again seems to have been the fix begore (although annoying). The glitch seemed to have kicked in if you used muddlebuds on the monstersvand they killed one another,. This did not properly remove their health from monster forces count.

Idk but I sincerely hope someone discovers a similar bug that is so innately embedded into the functionality of auto-build that the zelda team can't patch it out. It's one of the cooler things about the building that gets me excited at the potential for the game, and now it's being shit on 💀

and as always Nintendo proves emulating their games is a better experience then playing on real hardware, since I can downgrade so easily if my quests bug out and I need to update to 1.2.0 I can, then I can downgrade back to 1.1.2 to use the glitches, I'm not advocating for piracy, but theres no good reason Nintendo has to not allow downgrading the game, its possible, doesn't corrupt save data or anything, so why not give the user the ability to

It doesn't corrupt your saves yet but it very easily could. As soon as an update adds actual content, like the Xenoblade Crossover in BotW or they release DLC, loading a version of the game without that new content would very likely break a bunch of stuff, since suddenly your savegame has item entries and flags set that the game doesn't recognize anymore.

The rock octorock glitch may still work. It's pretty difficult to do, and I got bored trying to pull it off even before they updated. The shock emitter glitch using Link's house is so much easier, but sadly, that has been confirmed to be patched. But if you can pull off the frame perfect rock octorok weapon duping, there may be a chance that still works.

Dude when my totk is on 1.1.2 i tun of the switch i realise its redownloading so its fine to me, and few hours later i went to totk i do the tobio chasm dupe but it doesnt work and i realise is on 1.2.0, i just got out of luck of having op itmes and materials in the game so i have no chance to be op again in tears of the kingdom :(

This really sucks. Does anyone know how to dupe bows now? As far as I knew, the only reliable way to do it before was the shock glitch, which was patched... Don't think I'll be playing much until another glitch is found. Grinding away to get Lynel bows, just to break each bow while trying to get the next, is *not* my definition of fun.

A tip: forcing a blood moon while on a dragon will refresh a dragon, so you can immediately get another part! The panic blood moon glitch was not removed!

@@kaden-sd6vbit’s not gonna be removed ever because it’s not a glitch. The switch can only remember so many things at once and the blood moon it the way they have of unloading and reloading a more manageable amount of assets.

Damn Tobio's chasm was the most useful one. Glad I beat the game recently. Without it I would of been done man. Never would of maxed out my battery or been able to create enough arrows for the final boss. I feel like Tobio's Chasm shouldn't have been patched because that's basically an end game area. Can't get there unless you balloon or something up there. Anyways good luck guys I benefitted at least for the most part.

Basically TOTK developers messed up, gamers found useful glitches, and TOTK devs say, nope not this time. Not only did they let Zelda squat in Link's home so he had to start ALL over, they gave him totally lame options in the house building process. No roof, not even windows. AND they STILL won't let you pet the puppers, everyone wants to pet the dogs! 😅 Maybe focus on REAL upgrades!

Still haven't updated from the release version. Only good thing about Nintendo neglecting to announce DLC is that I don't have to be forced to update yet. I don't understand why they'd remove flame entanglement. It was literally just a creative exploitation of the build mechanics and now we don't even have the option. Pretty lame imo

Just came home booted up the switches and heard the double beep sound as if either charging or finished downloading. Looked in the corner and just saw an update window disappear, I was like “no they fcking didn’t” until I saw 1.2.0… Why can’t they just let us have fcking fun with the game the way we want to? Are they doing this on purpose? It just seems like they're trying to take the fun out of playing for players more than just fix problems. Surely they have to have checked online to know what players are doing. Are they really that stupid? I played Breath of the Wild for YEARS because of the glitches. But if all the glitches disappear, it takes away one of the main reasons why I'm willing to play the game.

I said this in another comment, but many of these glitches are showcased on Twitter; this platform is heavily used in Japan so more than likely devs are easily exposed to these glitches. Arguably, I think they were more lenient with BOTW because they probably wanted to see what players could think of. Now that they've seen the possibilities, they're more inclined to rule out these glitches as they are seen unnecessary.

I see the glitches as game play, and I haven't tried them all so nintendo took game play from me.

Worst part is this! I am on 1.1.1 and tried to give my son same version. They don’t even let us do that anymore for some reason. Tells us to update via internet. Even deleted the game completely and back to 1.0.0

Ti reset the game to 1.0.0 and play you have to initialize your switch deleting everything thats not backed up on microSD card (i think)or cloud then after getting a user on the switch delete the wifi settings and turn on airplane mode insert the game card and done
