You were commenting on the things they do for fence protection the broken glass on your neighbors wall… one thing I saw off and on when I was there is planting protective vegetation. Two main types, Century Plants and Bouganvillia. Man those things grow like weeds there, are beautiful and have thorns 3inches long. A hedge of them would deter most people and make your propert look nice. The century plants… I always thought of them inside the fence so when someone tries to jump over they need to be a long jumper. Just an idea

As long as the neighbor doesn’t mind maintenance and repairs or hiring someone to do it, they can have as large of a house as they want. The development where we bought our lot requires the top of our roof to be at least 9 meters tall so we’re going to have a second story, but I’m still putting the master bedroom downstairs.

They have a nice view off to the side there. All those rocks down there during a tore t could crash into the piers of that bridge and collapse it. Or fill in the space below it and then the water flow over the top. Rock walls are very cool. In Ireland they go in forever even over extreme terrain and stay straight as straight can be. Great Wall of China is amazing. Also love the lava rock walls they build in Hawaii. Is their lot smaller than yours that their house takes up so much property space? Interesting they moved the back wall back about a foot or more than yours instead of continuing the drainage you did over to the ravine along the back of theirs which seems like the logical thing to do than into their propane across it. Hey! Your old dog. Look’s pregnant again.
@buildingthephilippines
@buildingthephilippines 4 месяца назад
The locals say that ravine is always dry, even during Typhoons. Their house is just that much larger than ours. It takes up the lot. We built a concrete drain behind our wall, still on our property, just in case water flows behind us. The concrete gutter will catch the water and take it away.

@@buildingthephilippines Monster house. Of the handful of people I watch, you’re the only one’s that has built a reasonable size home for two with the possibility of guest. Don’t understand the empty nesters building huge homes just because they have the money. Also single story is the way to go for us aging ones. Even as a young one I never considered a two story home. Smart to step the wall back to build the drain on your property and not the rear neighbors. Seems they would have done the same to keep any possible runoff from entering theirs. Just let flow straight to the natural lay of the land. That’s going to be a giant house and lots to clean. Wilma would never get to sit down with a home that big.

Hi Greg. David here in southern Shikoku. (I changed my channel name, so no longer Northern-BC-Life). I appreciate your detailed explanation of the build next door so far. It’s going to be a lovely place. I figure the size of the house at 400m2 has got to be about double the size of yours. I really like their rock wall. Yes, drainage needs to be installed so water can drain through. I agree with you, they are making very fast progress. The view looks spectacular. About the rain, here in southern Shikoku, the climate is subtropical and when a storm blows in, the rain is like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my life. I expect tropical rain to be even more intense. It will be interesting to see this house build as it progresses.

Cool, would have liked to see how your drainage is setup behind your property line and back wall. Maybe next video? Looks like they are using regular hollow block 16x8x8 instead of the thinner blocks 16x8x4. Looks like it will be a nice house. Look forward to more of your videos, Greg...Jim P.S. Should say Happy Easter to both Wilma, You and Prince!

Weird coincidence that your video popped up when I'm getting ready to start building walls around the property. How do the costs compare with hollow block, wrought iron, and rock walls? Thanks ~
@buildingthephilippines
@buildingthephilippines 4 месяца назад
Wrought iron would be costly I would guess. Hollow block is the most common type of wall in the Philippines. Most crews here have mastered the hollow block method. Rock wall, I have no experience with.

Hi Paul, we have been asked that question several times. Wilma and I designed our home ourselves, so it's one of a kind. We have not shared our blueprints with anyone. If you work with a good architect, you can design your own home quite easily. Thanks for commenting.

@49ersWarriors I did and I decided not to use a new product for our home. Lighter, lots of air instead of concrete. Probably a great product, but thought of Typhoons pushing on walls with light blocks. My 2 cents, probably not worth 2 cents.

@@buildingthephilippines I think the only downside is cost. Better insulation and soundproofing. It should be able to withstand a strong typhoon. We enjoy watching your informative vlogs. Not sure if you've heard of the guy up north (Ilocos) who used AAC on his builds. Look him up if you haven't.
