Found the listing. The seller with that amount of feedback and sales had to of known it was fake hence the low starting bid and low final bid. But what's that to stop them from selling when its authenticated by Beckett? Not even sure how Beckett would f that up.
eBay won’t even refund me $120 for FedEx losing my package using a label I bought from them, yet they’re giving that scammer $23k! On a positive note I’m glad you got your money back.
If FedEx loses your package, it's on FedEx and their insurance. It has nothing really to do with eBay. If it was with ebays messed up fedex labels, I'm pretty sure they took care of most of those. You should be upset with FedEx if they accepted it and aren't going to refund you. It's all in their insurance policy. eBay isn't in charge of refunds for lost packages, almost ever.

If everyone did their job from the beginning, this never would have happened. Side note , the altered label should state what the alteration is. Period. So many high dollar cards are labeled altered, and people are left guessing what the alteration is. Pure laziness. Glad you got your money back.
23k to eBay is cheap compared to the additional bad publicity and mistrust that would arise. For eBay it's just far cheaper to pay the 23k and avoid any further problems or lawsuits.

That's just crazy how the seller is keeping the $23k he made off of a fake PMG Jordan card just because of the no return policy!? I think Ebay is trying to avoid a possible litigation from the seller, which may perhaps cost more money out from them. The grading company should pay the money, not eBay, or the seller it's the card authentication company that falsely labled the card the seller is going on what the authenticator graded the card.
Something similar happened to my friend when he was selling his gaming laptop. He clearly mentioned in the description that the battery connector was fragile and the buyer ended up breaking it and blaming my friend. In the end they both ended up getting their $800 which I thought was insane. This is something else though, I really didn't think they would also adhere to this policy all the way up to $23k. I guess this is why eBay takes so much fees when you sell.

Wild. My opinion... if i was blind i could tell the card is not a real pmg. The seller knew and threw it out there incase he could get 1 over on someone. In order for this to work all parties had to play the game exactly like it was played. Bravo seller you won 👏 everyone else lost in some way.
Thats why you should only buy PSA as they offer a Guarantee with Buy Back (Reason why there is Value Charge). Crazy how people dont know that Beckett doenst offer such Guarantee
Is anyone sure the seller is the one who altered the card? Or did they get it from someone, sold it and is just as surprised as the rest of us? Not all sellers are crooks in cases like this.
Happy for you! That’s exactly what I expected ebay to do. eBay will go after him but their lawyers want discretion why it’s thoroughly investigated. We all have to do our due diligence when purchasing a card of thy magnitude. What happened to the eBay policy of not allowing a seller to have a “no return” policy. Buyer protection is always more important than seller protection.
Beckett takes the bad publicity but internally knows who graded the card and let it slip through. eBay takes the hit hoping to minimize any backlash and insure buyers are taken care of. The seller likely knew from the beginning but leveraged eBay policy and Becketts original authenticity to pass the blame. Now he may have won with keeping the money but now everyone knows his account and will suffer from loss of sales over the publicity this brought. The most common mislabeling I see is First Day Editions and Members Only when the cards themselves are not either.
The bottom line, because eBay offers this "final sale" situation eBay is literally on the hook for there authentication. eBay needs to take a HARD look at their authentication process because only authenticating the label open a lot of doors for fraud....and the fact that eBay doesn't leave themselves any legal room to overturn the payout to the seller is just wild. That will 100% be fixed by them IMO. It's just bad business for eBay...if the card can be proven fraudulent then eBay reserves the right to take back the final sale.

PSA is the one that does the ebay authentication Ebay eating 23k is nothing to them a tax write off so i would not be feeling bad about that Beckett should be responisble but at this point there pretty much on a short rope of even being around much longer this whole thing is crazy but am glad that you got your money back
Been loosely following your story, and very happy to see you will receive a full refund for this fake. Shocked 😳 that eBay wouldn’t charge back the seller, who should be responsible (whether knowing, or not it was fake), and regardless of a “no return” policy. It sounds like they’re opening the door for future scammers to sell fakes, and just select a no return policy. Been selling on eBay for many years, and some of the policies they enforce both perplexes me, and totally frustrates (sometimes enrages) me.
Majority of sellers cards sold on ebay are from this era. Had to absolutely know it was a fake and more than likely did it themself since they did submit to BGS. Shady to do that and BGS blew it by authenticating with wrong label. Ebay should be going after them both.
1st: BGS and ebay only authentic the label, is easy to alter buy fake slab take out a higher grade of the same card label put in a worse condition of the same card and capsule it and grade the good card again? BGS authentic it but under altered? isn't altered card shouldn't be authenticated? BGS graded they should be the one paid the buyer? 2nd: Understand the policy to still pay seller but it will only encourage more altered items Seller account should be ban until further notice pending investigation should he knew is altered or he bought it unknown as well, he is getting away cheaply. 3rd: Card must be dispose totally changing the label doesn't help abit is a totally diff rarity. You are really calm and collective during the whole saga kudo on you.
I would be wondering if they keep the card and it’s actually a PMG error card that’s worth way more than the 23,000 you were willing to pay for it. I would still be trying to get the card and do your own research.
Looking at this seller's past sales it seems this seller has a very interesting sales history with questionable cards like - 2021 Enlighten #23 Bulls MICHAEL JORDAN ��RARE Test Issue/Promo PMG Refractor. Makes me really wonder about this seller.
This is basically a tax write off for eBay. They loose a whole 10 seconds of profit out of one day of final value fees for sold auctions… The card was sent in for verification of authenticity and passed. Then the card was sent to buyer. The card was recalled back for a 2nd look and then found to be a fake. Did the seller know it was fake??? Don’t know however it passed the process and was deemed legit on the first round. eBay stood behind this as the process that is put in place was at fault…
Glad that they corrected the issue with you and refunded you. Beckett was at fault here, so eBay could work with them to correct the issue if they choose to do so. Beckett just needs to do a better job of reviewing their cards and the grades they issued, so hopefully they fix that internally.
Bro who cares, you got your moment back. I had a similar issue, I sold a card for $900 eBay got it, authenticated the card and sent it to the buyer. The buyer claimed he never got the card even though the shipping stated it was delivered. eBay gave my fund to me and the buyer got his money back and probably a free card. I was pretty upset but why! I got my $900 that I sold the card for, whatever happens after it’s up to eBay and that buyer.
eBay won’t even refund me or the seller won’t even refund my car spoiler wing I bought when the seller didn’t even send the necessary accessories to complete the job so I’m stuck with the car wing never being installed lol glad u got the refund though
All these things Beckett promise to do should have been done in the first place. They sure at least have offered eBay to pay half of the refund at the very least if not all. They should out the grader and have him fired!
I think ebay did right by the buyer, but I also have no problem with them paying the seller here, as they potentially could have not been aware of the fraudulence of authenticity
Was the seller the one who submitted the card for grading? Did the seller buy it this way from someone else and was also uniformed it was altered? BGS should be looking at the submissions from that seller to see if other cards were altered again.
It reminds me of a pmg green mj some guy had in a gem grading case graded 10 he wanted $100,000 obo. So I offered $1000 just to mess with him. He accepted, I said there's no way I'm paying for that and he was super upset about it. Strange behavior to operate like that. This to me is similar but instead of bin they went auction and it worked with the help of a miss label from a reputable company. I see it with fake jordan rookies all the time, the Ole estate sale routine... been buying and selling cards a long time on ebay. Anyone that has knows what happened here this wasn't an honest mistake. This was a trick with some help. Orrrr he has a guy on the inside. Regardless bgs stock takes a hit in my opinion for good reason. Sgc slides into #2. I don't worry about if there are any more mislabeled bgs cards out there I worry about how this one happened.
Nice to see eBay do what was right. Opens themselves up to some issues but we don't know the seller was the one who altered the card do we? BGS was the ultimate failure and should bare the burden. They should look into their systems as to who submitted it for grading and get in contact with them/potentially ban them..
Beckett sucks. I sent my Tom Brady 2000 contenders rookie ticket auto in for grading and they sent it back to me with a letter saying it’s fake. I then sent it to PSA and it came back authentic. I no longer do business with BGS and crack all their cards. BEWARE!!
BGS should hire better graders, authenticators, and heads. If the salary is too much they can always outsource some of the work in asia where labor is cheap. they might just get real card people to work for them. because they are the reason for eBay losing $23k and for all this negative brouhaha in the community.
BGS is saying "thanks eBay" and laughing their ass off. BGS doesn't and never guarantees their grade. Why do people still buy their crap? Like others have said, BGS should of paid . It's their mistake. I'm always thinking about the poor guy who had a $2000 BGS 9.5 and sent it back to get reholdered because there was a chip or small crack on the slab. They refused and said it was not a 9.5 card so the guy was out $2k after he won it off eBay.
Beckett should be the one paying, not ebay or the seller or you; but go figure, they let customer service in the Philippines run the company and in this case it should be above their pay grade. I will say, I've consigned cards that are authentic and PSA slabbed and ebay's authentication has made issue that was never disclosed to me (when I sold direct it was hard to get an answer from authentication, but consigned it's basically impossible.) But, there have been authentic slabs sold and the authenticator wasn't happy with something even though it was covered. When a card is low grade, slabbed authentic and the issues are clearly visible and it will still get rejected. Consigners don't like custom descriptions, too much work for them; but it's cost me some big sales of signed vintage cards.
Bravo to Beckett. The worst grading company who makes slabs with no basic security features like hologram and UV print also gets to avoid responsibility for grading a fake card. What a clown show.
So let me get this straight. I have a 2013 Panini Prizm Giannis Antetokounmpo #290 PSA 9 MINT accidentally graded a 2013 Panini Prizm Prizm (Silver) Giannis Antetokounmpo #290 PSA 9 MINT. The difference in value of these two cards is currently about 5K. During the boom the difference was approximately 15K. After watching the above video and the rest of your coverage of the fake PMG Saga along with Dan the Card Man’s coverage covering your ordeal and other sketchy going on within the community is it possible that if I list the above card on eBay based on it’s incorrect label and a uninformed buyer buys my card and it then passes eBay authentication because they only authenticate the slab which is 100% real just inaccurate, I could scam the system as long as I have a no return policy on my eBay page? WOW! Good to know…Good thing I am not an unscrupulous member of the community like so many others. Do better shady part of our community, PSA and eBay!

How can you blame the seller unless he knew it was a fake. The liable parties are Beckett and Ebay because BGS authenticated an altered card and labeled it authentic including eBay which gave the guarantee so if seller didn’t know, you can’t blame him as he can possibly file a lawsuit against BGS and EBay anyways. I’m glad you got refund, so don’t blame it on seller, just blame BGS and EBay authentication.

Not sure if you can watch this - a very similar thing happened to me - however a lot different details, including the value of the card was more around $300. When I made my video I think the policy was different because result hinged on them comparing the listing to the actual card I got. The image was misleading.
