You lied. This is a real Rare Earth video. As real as Hero Rats, or the Stone at the side of the highway that started wars. You didn't use this video to explore someone else's culture, or cultural baggage- This is YOUR cultural baggage, Evan. You openly exposed and examined your own personal bias, something that most documentarians will never do. That, my friend, is Rare Earth.
I don't think he ever said the opposite. He mixes cultural and personal feelings about it, the whole series is like this. Now, in this one he openly said (most importantly) personal demons.

Wow. What can I say that hasn’t already been said. I came upon your content by accident but now I watch every time a new episode comes up. I’m not sure how you intended it to be received but I for one look upon each episode as almost a morality tale that helps people look at things with new eyes. I also agree that we as a people need to question more. If we don’t, we are shepherded down whatever path media/governments/companies decide we should be on. The worst thing that we as people can do is stop asking “Why?”. I applaud your drive and determination, and I will be here waiting for the next episode so that I can learn more about when I should be asking “Why?” more often.

ive been supporting you on patreon for a while, because of exactly that. I can see how much you love doing that and I enjoy the products of your creativity! I love your work and I never miss an episode. I watch quite a few videos and a good lot of them do the Patreon thing. I wish I could give something to them all but I can't. I'm in advertising as well but I was no where near as lucky as you. I'm just a shooter at a small Midwestern TV station and although I love doing the work I do it has never paid that well so, hopefully you won't mind if I remain just a fan for now. One thing that came up in my head during your video was a thought I had when I was looking through Communication Arts magazine and that is wondering where future generations will look when studying the world of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Back in the day when folks tried to make sense of the past, they looked to the art of that period...paintings and sculpture. But will future generations look to de Kooning or Gilbert and George? Or will they look to illustrations for ads or for magazine articles. Maybe both but I think it may lean more heavily to the illustrators, package designers and ad agencies. After all, they are probably more of a reflection of our current society. When thinking of the early 20th century is that story told better through the Dadaists or through Norman Rockwell? Each probably does tell that story but, in what way and which is more accurate? Emotionally we need both, I suppose. I'm not anti-high art, my favorite artists are guys like Bruce Nauman and Rauschenberg but this thought just hangs in my head and now it's out there in a comment. Thanks again for the great videos!! Even though I have no extra funds to through your way at the moment I will continue to spread the gospel of Rare Earth to my friends.

I love your content, you've found a fantastic outlet for all that creativity. I appreciate the transparency as well. I've always been thankful that my mother from a young age would point out the fallacies of advertising, at first the hotwheels racing track that wouldn't really propel cars into the air and later the mascara that wouldn't honestly give me the ones shown in the magazine print ads. I forget that others haven't been taught to be as cynical over what is marketed towards them.
Man, I've gotta say I hate advertisements with a passion. When I was a child (in Sweden) advertising to children was forbidden. I'm not sure if that's still the case but regardless the government isn't really able to prevent advertising towards children online these days.
I LOVE this show. It has something of an Edward R. Murrow meets 2020 (the TV show, not the year!) vibe that is by turns cool, deep, intelligent, and authentic. I've had many youtubes I love advertise patreons, I've got nothing against it, on the contrary I think it's brave to try and make a living doing something you love. But you're the first channel I'm genuinely considering chipping in, because I don't merely enjoy watching your videos, they inspire me. Inspire me to ask myself questions about subjects that never crossed my mind before, see things from a new perspective, and learn plenty. And think they can make a difference, if only to push people to think outside of their own heads. I can't quite afford to make donations on a regular basis yet, but if and when that happens, you'll definitely be on the top of my list, keep up the inspiring work !
I'm glad that you were fortunate enough to be able to follow your dreams. Don't feel bad for asking for support for those that want to willingly give it. You put out a product that is well worth supporting for those that believe in what you're doing. I'm a thirtysomething myself, and it's refreshing to see another fellow child of the 80s being able to support themselves with something that drives them passionately, and not just going through the motions for a stable salary. I myself have your typical wife, 2 kids, 2 cars deal going on, and I'm very happy with my family and what I have. Though I still sometimes wonder what would have been if I had followed my dreams and took those risks instead.
