My Dad was in the army when I was a child, and we moved around as dad was deployed. I had a small wooden box that was my doll house (it was more like a doll room than house)...but no matter where we were, I could open the door and have something that was mine that wasn’t always in a state of turmoil. 50 years later, I still wish I had that doll house. It disappeared somewhere between Fairbanks and Fayetteville....
I keep thinking your videos can't get any better and then you surprise me. What a huge treat! Dollhouse, Blythe, and patterns for Blythe clothes: couldn't be better. Tack så mycket!
You need a little Freya for the house. I love it. Looking forward to seeing the Blyth wardrobe. Wallpaper is a fun idea. Painting the furniture is another fun idea.
Arne & Carlos I really enjoyed watching this. The Dolls House is very adorable, and I loved hearing all about how you collected everything. I think you should leave the walls as they are, and wallpaper the new house that you are planning to make. Thank you for sharing this.
Way back when, I wallpapered the living-room in a daughter's doll house. She loved the funky wallpaper that I made with bright color markers on a linen paper. Sometimes the wallpaper is actually a piece of fabric that really struck me. I've always decorated one room with wallpaper in each dollhouse we've made for family or friends.
I think it's beautiful. What I like the most is the stories behind it--it's Arne's & Carlos' diminutive adventure. Most people spend so much on pre-made decor for doll houses, which is fine for collectors, but your doll house doesn't conform, which is fun.
I have a dollhouse and LOVE that you do too. Instead of painting the brown furniture ( which could become antiques one day) you can do things like, sew /knit a tablecloth to change the color. Make pillows for the chairs/couch. Curtains for the windows. I used two pins to knit a shawl for one of my dolls ( 1inch=12 inches ratio). There used to be a RU-vid about the lady that made all the sweaters for the movie 'Caroline' that I found very inspiring. Looking forward to more Dollhouse episodes.
I love dolls because when I was little I didn't have any , I only have one picture with my doll and a record, and I am standing next to it, like is the most beautiful and valuable, today I am in Las vegas my husband is running the Rock n Roll Marathon, I'm not saying that I am rich, but I don't go hungry . Like always you guys have a wonderful day , may God bless you to beutiful people 😘Carlitos, Arne😍😘🙃
Arne, please don't feel self-conscious about speaking...we all think you are very charming! I wish I could knit as well as you. Thanks to you and Carlos for such an entertaining and informative video!
Fantastic fun video. Just love the Dolls House. The kitchen furniture is so detailed and real. Love it all. I like the cute dresses very much. Even the dolls are nice, apart from their clicking eyes. 👁👀👁👀👁 so sweet Arne creating a beautiful mini world. I’m 64 and love playing with my grand daughters dolls house. (With them 🤣😂). 💒👍🏻🌹🌟🌸🤩☃️🧶🥰❤️💒💒
Thank you so much! What a treat. Blythe: I find her spooky as well. Wallpaper...no. I think the rooms are to small and full of treasures...wall paper would make things too busy. Arne, you are doing a great job with your English. 🎖
Guys your a cheer up on a wet monday morning. I think you both need a dolls house, it would be interesting to see the diffences in your designs. But you definitely need your Own dog in there. And thankyou for your ideas and teaching. Have an old cupboard which I’m gonna tranform for my furture grandchildren☺️.will keep me busy untill the come. Fijne dag verder🙋🏼♀️
I am partial to wallpaper; however, it's harder to change out when you're in need of a change. My goodness, if you're going to build another doll house to fit dolls' proportions, you'll be building in perpetuity! There's probably a very good market for knitting doll's clothes. I'm basing this on the amount of doll's things we sell at our store every day. I don't have granddaughters; so, I don't know how popular those two dolls are in the U.S. I'm not a buyer. But, marketing to the grandparents is advisable. Thank you for another great update!
I love your dolls house and think the painted walls are just fine. The dolls are very spooky ,especially the red haired one but my little granddaughter would love them ! A new house would be a great idea! 🙂
Love the doll house. You show it as a hobby, not a toy. Wallpaper one wall in a room, then it’s an accent wall. I find all Asian art depicting westerners with big heads and big eyes spooky, so it’s not just you Carlos. 😊😊😊
This video truly touched my heart because my mother had a very large doll house that she throughly enjoyed. Watching this video brought back very fond memories that I had forgotten. I say paint those tables, wallpaper a brand new doll house and Blithe is spooky but you can’t help but adore her.
Love the doll house Arne. Wall paper would be so cool. Maybe put the wall paper on a very thin piece of wood or heavy cardboard so it can be removed with ease. Carlos, I agree with you, I've always been creeped out by dolls. That eye changing doll is going to give me nightmares. OHHH, Arne. you need a little Freya for the doll house. Love the doll house updates.
My favorite time is when we revisit the doll house. Oooh the new chandelier and I love the rug downstairs by the mushroom....I always wanted one this large when I was a little girl..... It's so beautiful Wallpaper - maybe but only ONE room (lol). Blythe - Creepy in the extreme - LOL
Hi Arne and Carlos! I am actually the girl you met at Webs back in October 2017 and gave you the dolly sweater. It warms my heart that you both remember our conversation. I so adore your Dolly house Arne and I am so excited to see what you both have in store for dolly knits! How exciting!! 💗
WOW, the dollhouse is beautiful! Love the chandelier in the craft room. If you put lamps or lighting in the other rooms, that would brighten them and maybe you could then leave the furniture natural. Maybe? Your choice! I just like wood furniture. Look forward to your next dollhouse update in 6 months/year.
I love all the details in your dollhouse!! The festival in Japan is called Hinamatsuri, or Girls' Day or Doll's Day, so the little box is very appropriate in your doll house! My daughter told me all about Girls' Day when she lived there. Blythe dolls are VERY popular all over the place, so you'll have great success if you design some knitwear for them. Very cute, as always!
Loved the house dresses for the dolls. I don't collect dolls but really find their clothes interesting so I'd very much like to see you make more. Arne, I think the hunt for finding things for the doll house would be one of the best parts of having one. You've done a beautiful job.
You could use shelf/contact paper on the walls. Easy to use and not too expensive. Since you got he dolls from Japan you could make stewardess uniforms for them.
Carlos, I wish you well with the medical care you will be going through. Relax while being poked and pinched. Being a creative thinker perhaps you might escape and dream of a book about the two princes and their adventure, told simply. I enjoyed that Christmas story so much. It was so imaginative the way you both expressed it. Each Prince being different persons solved their unexpected problems together and made it through a hard day. Its nice when we can look back and laugh at old problems. Your dry humor is much appreciated along with Arne's smile and giggles. Thank you for the happiness you share.
Arne, I so enjoyed seeing the update on your doll house. In Glasgow, Scotland our living rooms and hallways were wall papered. Your idea of painting the kitchen furniture is perfect. My Grandfather, a seaman always brought white paint from the ship to paint the kitchen table.
What a beautiful Doll House! Keep the walls as they are, they have great colours! Yes, the little round wooden table would look nice painted, maybe white or a cream colour! I love the little knitted rugs and the cross stitched pictures on the wall! You guys live in a beautiful house yourselves with cute little Freya!
Love your doll house Arne. I enjoyed one growing up but never had dolls in it oddly enough. I just liked moving around the furniture and imaging me living in it.
When I was a child my friend and I loved troll dolls. My mother suggested we make them houses. We used boxes for the houses and decorated the rooms with old sample books of wallpaper and paint cards. We made all the furniture and wall hangings, rugs, etc. It is one of my best memories. The Blythe dolls are a little strange, but no stranger than troll dolls and they need their own homes too. ❤️
Catherine Khalili I also loved my troll dolls! I wish I still had them. My parents divorced many years ago when I was in college. When my dad remarried he threw out ALL my stuff, even our childhood pictures. 😢
I'm an avid fan of your doll house videos and much to my surprise I've never seen this before! What a treat! This goes into a "Favorite Videos" playlist. Many thanks!
Lovely doll house 😍, and yes those dolls are a bit spooky....I would not dare enter the room without all the lights on 😱😂 Wallpaper is a nice way to give a room a quick make-over, you could change it every now and then.
I had a doll house when I was little and I remember I used wrapping paper as wallpaper in some of the rooms. I gave that doll house to my daughter but when we moved we gave it away. I miss it and often think about it. Thank you for this video.
Love little Freya. I think you should leave the walls as they are. The chandelier really is wonderful, it lets you see every corner of the room and all the little items that you have so lovingly placed there. Keep up the good work.
Please leave this house as is, but go ahead and create a neighbor house. I would like to see miniature cloth dolls with clothing. You two are so talented, so much fun to watch and learn!
I love all the charming rugs in your doll house! So sweet, Arne. You have done a beautiful job collecting and making all the furnishings. Thank to you and Carlos for the tour today. You two are my favorites!
My doll house is a log cabin. It has to stay in the basement because of limited space in the house. It does come out for Christmas and is decorated and filled with presents. I spied the tiniest VW beetle I have ever seen. That is very special. No to wallpaper. Yes to another bigger house for Hippie and Ull.
Hello gorgeous Arne and Carlos, I just absolutely adore your doll’s house, it is fabulous. Carlos I do find Blythe a little scary, my granddaughters are still into Barbie, they didn’t like Blythe for some reason. Dolls patterns would br wonderful. You both light up my Sunday evening, it is so dark and gloomy here in the U.K. I think one room wall papered would be lovely to see. Arne I think you should paint the furniture and a big well done on your introduction and your conclusion to your vlog. I love you both, you are fantastic. Big hugs and loves Arne and Carlos xxxxxxxxx Dorothy UK 🙋🏻😘❤️🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Well,I am not sure about the dolls or the wallpaper but I do love dollhouses and I love the idea of a knitted daydress for my daughter's dolls,as most of them are strutting about in fabulous shoes and handbags and not much else. Oh and my other daughter says " never mind wallpaper, that doll needs a bed!"
Thanks for the update! I made a miniature 1920's style dollhouse kitchen that I set up each Christmas (along with all my other toys) and I put in wallpaper. Of course I put the little kitchen in my own kitchen, along with a lighted garland I hang on the wall. My grandchildren like to help me hang dollhouse-sized kitchen ornaments on the garland-- like a skillet, a rolling pin, a muffin pan, little cookie cutters, etc, along with tiny tartan ribbon bows as well. I would like to see a light in each of your rooms, and maybe one room in wallpaper. But I do love the painted walls you made. Part of the fun of a dollhouse (or a room in my case) is the imaginative thoughts of what goes on in that miniature world. And for me, the rest of the fun is making things to go in it. And THE HUNT for new things-- always fun! Someday I'll make more rooms, but for now my Christmas kitchen will do.
🥰💕Love all your videos! So excited about your dollhouse update! I’m working on my current dream dollhouse. The first floor is a quilt shop, with a coffee cafe & a cash wrap room with unique gifts. The second floor is a yarn shop. Also a private owner suite. The third floor is a secret library filled with books & antiques! I find tiny unique treasures in all my travels. The term is called “Functional Fixedness” meaning finding function in objects that can be used for another purpose! I found a detailed mother of Pearl quilt star inlay wood box & used it as my quilt table in the quilt shop. I’m love the art of miniatures. I suggest you crest a new dollhouse with the right scale so you can find the right size treasures for your next dollhouse. Make one big mansion so you can decorate many rooms together. Imagine all the pillows & Hygge blankets & curtains you can make! It’s a dream dollhouse for sure. Please let me know if you like my dream dollhouse? So looking forward to your next dollhouse. Maria from Millstone Township NJ 🥰💕🧶🧵👍👍
Yes paint some of the brown furniture for sure, I’m not sure about wallpaper the patterns would need to be in proportion to the wall sizes I think. Love the dolls with their luxurious hair and big heads they’re so quirky. The dolls house is fabulous, it contains so many memories of your travels a lovely thing.🌸🙂
Hahaha, they ARE spooky, you are right Carlos. :-D Remind me a bit of Chucky in the horror movie, lol. I think it is the most charming thing to see you guys "playing" with your dollhouse. Gee, I wish I had such friends to play dollhouse with when I was a little girl :-D This really wants me to make my own dollhouse now. I do love dolls very much and I have many of my own. I make them out of fabric. I also make dolls dressed in historical clothing, medieval clothing. I have two knights and a swiss guard and of course 2 princesses and a kalifa who looks like Aladin from Baghdad. :-D Then I have sewn stuffed animals and also gingerbread dolls and bears and so on. Yeah, one is never too old for dolls. I am 54 now, lol. Can`t wait for the outfit you will create for the japanese doll. You know there is a very interesting episode out on japanese dolls on RU-vid. It was aired in one of the "Begin Japanology" series: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QSkk8zwrfS8.html
I LOVE the dollhouse (and the Blythe's) -- I would use fabric and liquid starch to "paper" the walls -- that way if you want to change, easy to remove and doesn't damage painted finish. I've used it many times on apartments where you weren't allowed to wallpaper and I've used on cabinet doors to add a pop of color without committing to permanent change. Holds like glue but peels right off. :)
I would be so thrilled if you started designing clothes for the dolls. Those dolls are so adorable! The dollhouse is just precious and I think a wallpapered room would be charming! I can’t wait for you to share the patterns for that doll house dress!
We really enjoyed this episode. Like you Carlos, I find the dolls a bit spooky. We loved seeing Freya again. Peggy Sue sends her a woof! She is lying on the fire hearth, her new favourite spot. C and G. X
I Love your dollhouse built in a cabinet! Love everything you’ve done and added. How about a mirror on one of the back walls? You could see your giant face - a fun play on proportions!
I think Arne does great considering he is trying to remember what to say in English. Yes, I think Blythe is a little spooky. Especially the one with the fingers spread out. I love the doll house. Maybe top half paint and bottom half wall paper with a chair rail.
Just lovely. The possibilities are endless. The doll that switches eyes is kinda creepy. I like the idea of making the clothes. I don’t have granddaughters to knit for. But I’m sure there are lots of little girls who would appreciate and love the doll clothes
HI GUYS..my heart skipped a beat when I saw what your topic for discussion was today. I just love your doll house and so want one of my own. The Japanese dolls are pretty cool. Without being unkind, they seem to be modelled on the physiques of some of the top models and footballer's wives here in the UK. They are stick thin and have 'bobble heads' (heads that seem oversized for the tiny bodies) because they are so skinny. I can't wait for you to dress them. Love love love the furnishings and furniture and what makes everything extra special is that the objects have a story to tell and the eclectic mix is fascinating. It would be great if Freya were to appear in miniature form , with food bowls and blankets/doggie bed and her toys?? Perhaps the Volkswagen can be parked outside the house? The ultimate would be to collect enough decorations that may be rotated to reflect the seasons and celebrations over the course of a year. Thanks once again. xx
I like the walls the way they are. A patterned wall paper might distract from all the furniture and accessories. If I were you, I would have a kitty and or a dog to make the doll house really cozy!
Squee! I collect Blythe dolls, among other dolls, so I'm so excited to see a few in this video. Yes, making for dolls is a big deal in the Blythe community, so I encourage you to create patterns for them. I'm knitting challenged (I make lots of garter stitch rectangles and triangles), but there are many who knit for their dolls. To help change clothes on the fake/factory Blythe dolls, you can pull off their hands. It will probably freak Carlos out, but just pop them off, change clothes, and then pop them back in.
The fun thing about a small space such as a doll's house, is to let your imagination go!!! Have fun with finding sample wall paper. You can decorate over the top. Have loads of fun. Pat-South Padre Island, Texas
It’s on my bucket list ,to make a doll house, I would like to see you make more clothes, the dolls are very big , I enjoyed , Carlos love your hair cut , Arne so cute
You two are absolutely wonderful! What a charming doll house!! Thank you for sharing, especially the stories of some of the house goodies you have obtained on your travels. I love the idea of an oversized wall paper in one of the rooms playing with proportions. I have many Blythe dolls, so yes I love her in the doll house. I love the play on proportions with her "oversized' head in the house. A note about the "disco" (too cute!) Blythe doll body. Her hands come off so you can dress her more easily. You want to hold her forearm and then firmly, not rough, slightly twist a little bit and pull. Sometimes they pop right out, I have had some be stubborn so you may need to pull a bit harder. Just make sure you have a firm grip on her forearm so you don't pull that off as well. I usually have Blythe lying in my lap to support the body when I remove that hands for redressing. After dressing the hand will push right back in. On Aliexpress you can buy different hand styles so she can be holding something or making a peace sign etc. Blythe Homes on Aliexpress is a good store to start if you are interested in your doll having different hand styles, or just do a "Blythe Hand" search. This video has inspired me to build my own doll house. I have always wanted one since I was a kid, but never cared for the plastic ones. Thank you again for sharing your doll house!! Be well!! :)
Seeing the very end of the episode gives me an idea! How about an Arne & Carlos "out-takes" or bloopers episode? Love, love the dollhouse vignettes at the end of the episode. I have gotten my dollhouse out and want to decorate with crochet plants!!!
I am working on weeding my fabric stash and I've just emptied one cabinet today. You've insured me to turn it into a doll house! I have many small knitted and crochet creatures that live on a shelf but would be much more cozy in their own house. I like the wallpaper idea, and the idea of painting some of the furniture for another pop of color.
I love the doll house. I am making a doll house from boxes following the Mouse mansion doll house. Yes wall paper the house..it will be lovely. I have a Blythe and am working on customizing her. Knitted clothes would be wonderful. There is a large community of doll lovers who rescue dolls from dumps and charity shops.
I love your dollhouse, it's a great idea for all the little things, which I have received over the years, as gifts. Have a wonderful afternoon. I love you both.
What a delightful collection! I could spend a long time exploring!! It just struck me that the blond doll reminds me of Alice In Wonderland in that dollhouse! Instead of wallpaper, why not put one of your gorgeous fabrics on the walls of one of the rooms.
Hello from Fort Worth, Texas, Arne & Carlos! I just want to thank you both for demonstrating Norwegian knitting. I’ve been an English thrower for more than 30 years and finally wanted to gain some speed. I tried every style of knitting, even lever (ugh). Continental never felt natural until I learned the Norwegian purl from you. You’re right...it’s life-changing. I’m halfway through my first hat and it looks amazing. Love to you both! Oh...the dollhouse is awesome but yes, the dolls are hella creepy but cool.
Love the wallpaper idea and totally agree that Blythe is spooky especially with those eyes that move. Keep thinking you’ll walk in that room one day and her eyes will follow you! YIKES!
Ooooh the doll house is beautiful! I’m originally from Holland and this reminds me so much of my dolls house! Here in Australia they are just becoming popular. Thank you for sharing this wonderful hobby Arne and Carlos - I love it!!!
I love your dollhouse. And you should definitly put wall paper on one wall of the rooms. There is wall paper of little tea cups for the kitchen. I'm sure you'll love it. 🧡From Holland
Love the doll house, I think it will be fun to design a wardrobe for the Bythe dolls! Kind of fun to change their eye color. I can see why they would be popular, but they are not what I would choose myself. Their houses dresses are lovely, makes me want to knit one for myself! Hehehehe. Loved the full view of each dollhouse room! And especially the little kitten room, with the wee tiny model cars!
I find the Blythe dolls reeeeaaalllly creepy, but the dollhouse is charming. My mother and I had a miniatures/dollhouse store many, many years ago. They are so fun. I’d like to go see Queen Mary’s dollhouse in England someday. Take care, Sally in Northern California 😁
Hi Arne, I think you should leave the kitchen furniture brown and make table cloths and runners in different colours for the seasons. Thanks for another episode! Margaret O'Brien
Happy Sunday! The doll house is progressing along nicely. But the Blythe dolls I agree with you Carlos are a bit scary. I suggest you lock them in there at night. 😵Just kidding. I hope you both have a wonderful week.
i have two Barbies that i keep strictly to use as models for the sewn and knitted clothes i make for our nephew who collects Barbies. i am not much of a Barbie fan, but after seeing this video, i am determined to make a dollhouse for them. it is too cute. and, yes... wallpaper in one room would add some interesting dimension to the space.
Very entertaining episode..thx, I agree that the eyes changing colors are kind of creepy. I like the idea of a "pop of color!" Keep up the good work and will look forward to future episodes.
