A lot of belly burns in monitors, bearded dragons, and other diurnal species result from uninformed keepers using electric rocks or large under-tank heaters as the sole source of heat for their pet. When species used to basking in the sun are heated exclusively from below, they will allow the skin of their belly to burn before they feel warm enough to leave their basking spot. With a basking lamp, the reptile receives heat from both the lamp above and the warmed surface below, which warms them up more quickly and evenly. Archiebal looks bright-eyed, alert, and curious about his surroundings, so I'd say he's pretty happy with the environment you're providing him.

So good to hear you think that! The previous owners did use electric rocks, and I'll tell you, we couldn't even have our hands on them without getting burned. Such a shame really. :-)

The large mealworms are called superworms :)
@colinjava8447
@colinjava8447 7 лет назад
They can also be called jumbo worms, they are beetle larvae basically, like regular mealworms are. The wax worms are larvae of moths.

I NEED HELP!!! I recently got a ball python about four days ago and I think she may be a little underweight. I got her this past Saturday, and the breeder told me that she hadn't eaten since the Saturday before that. She pooped in the cage two days after I got her, and at night she shows classic signs of being hungry (when I reach my hand in the terrarium she tracks my heat signature until she realizes its me, and she paces A LOT.) The first two days before she defacated she didn't pace as much, but now she does all the time. I'm pretty sure she's hungry so I'm going to feed her tonight when she wakes up although he told me to wait until around Friday. My issue is I've looked up pictures of both healthy and underweight ball pythons and I can't tell because every picture of an underweight ball python is an extreme case of near starvation, and I just don't think she's that bad. I feel like she shows very subtle versions of the things I'm seeing. When she takes sharp turns, she has very visible wrinkles on the side of her body (sometimes it looks like the skin is too loose). I'm sure the wrinkles aren't from dehydration as she always has clean water and I constantly check her eyes for any dents. Also, sometimes when she crawls over my hand in a downward motion (like if I hold her a couple inches from the floor and she tries to crawl on the floor), I find her spine to be somewhat visible. It doesn't seem as bad as the pictures on google of starving snakes, but it's there nonetheless. I'd feel a little better if she'd put some weight on. In hindsight, I probably wasn't as thorough in my questions with her breeder as I should've been. I saw a pretty snake who looked pretty healthy and I bought her, and in my excitement, forgot every question I should've asked. She is my first snake and it was my first time going to an expo. I'd really appreciate help, and if she is underweight can you please recommend the best way for her to gain a little weight quicker. She's not super underweight, but I feel that she is skinnier then she should be.

Hey! I recently went to a reptile convention and bought a red tail boa(my second snake.) At the time of purchase I didn't inspect her face closely enough and have now realized that she seems to have nose rub which has closed up over her nostrils. I put her in the bath and was able to open the nostrils a bit... It had me really worried because an air pouch would form under her jaw and she would push it out of her mouth. She's in shed now and I'm hoping that will clear things up. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this?

That's a great idea! I'll make that! I hope you find your ball python! A good tip is to look for small and dark spaces, usually that's what they seek :-)

I am going to keep my male ball python in a 30 gallon long his whole life... Will that be too big and make him go into a feeding strike like golden girl? If so what size should I keep him in? Thanks! And I just LOVE Archible❤️❤️❤️
@blbreptiles4126
@blbreptiles4126 7 лет назад
A good thing to know is that the lenght and the width of the tank has to be as long as the snake

SnakeDownhill ball pythons curl up in balls a lot so I heard that rule doesn't apply to them
@spriteandnicotine

Alexander Zhivaga I would suggest a 40 long I wouldn't say anything is too big since in their native environment they have miles upon miles to roam. As long as you make sure they get their food there's no problem with an enclosure being too big for a ball python. The bigger the enclosure, the bigger the warm side needs to be (1/3 of the tank about). If you are trying to save money, a plastic tote would work well if you don't mind what the outside looks like. Hope I helped ^-^

I'm Justin time grown ball pythons need a minimum of 30 gallons. So forty gallons would perfect.

I would absolutely love too. Reticulated pythons are amazing, but unfortunately they are illegal to own in my country :-)
@johngca3270
@johngca3270 7 лет назад
Jossers Jungle i live in philippines but reticulated python are illegal to own but if you have a permit or license then it's ok the wildlife rescues will check on your retic if it's okay and healthy they'll let you keep it but if it's tortured and un healthy and dying they will confiscate it and will bring it to the zoo. and you'll get arrested. check it in your country if it's legal to keep those animals if you have a permit or license im not sure.
@JossersJungle
@JossersJungle 7 лет назад
It would be great if we could have that here, but unfortunately we don't. The only ones allowed to own recticulated pythons are zoos. Guess I'll have to make a zoo then :-)
