Ku you are the man and I agree with most everything. But I think Monty was even worse than you think and I know you want him fired. Like I don't think he was just "dealt a bad hand" and did poorly with that. I feel like he actively destroyed this team with his lack of preparedness, rotations, and a litany of other reasons. I mean the Ivey situation was just such a joke ..an organizational meeting to get him to play Ivey more? And then he casually discloses this to the media? Like wtf?? I'm currently watching the pacers play in the 2nd round of the playoffs with Aaron Nesmith, tj McConnell, Andrew nembhard, Ben Sheppard and Isaiah Jackson getting big minutes...coaching is so huge. It makes all the difference. This was not a 14 win roster. It was a 14 win team because of Monty. Just my opinion. And while I agree definitely gauge the value of Ivey, duren the pick etc for sure and make a move if it makes you better... I truly believe that even if this team ran it back with the same roster they would be a lot better just with a new coach almost due to addition by subtraction (of Monty).

I just looked it up: our shooting coach, David Hopla, is our longest tenured coach having been with the pistons 8 seasons, since the 2016-17 season. This amazes me because I can think of no other skill coach that needs to be replaced more. Most of the other coaches have only 1 or 2 years of tenure. This guy must have tape on Gores as his previous stints were max 3 years and he obviously can’t teach our guys how to shoot.

A name you should look at in the draft is Tidjane Salaun. Listed at 6’9” with like a 7’1” wingspan. Fluid movements high release on the jumper, creates a decent amount of steals. I’m in on him and I’d like the Pistons to either reach for him at 5 (cause screw it) or trade back to 10-12 to grab him.

I heard the pressure quotes quite differently. James is saying the fans and general media have been applying more pressure than internally. He’s also conjecturing that at some point in the future, Cade’s camp may apply pressure. So internally, it doesn’t sound like James is hearing a whole lot of pressure about making win-now moves.

How much value does Jaden Ivey even have at this point? Monty Williams was benching the guy for Killian Hayes of all people. Whatever value he did have seemed to have diminished due to Monty and we all know the fifth pick in this weak draft doesn’t hold a ton of value either.

Duren might not have trade value right now. Ivey does but being a backup won't hurt his trade value. Turnovers and bad shooting would hurt his trade value. Duren doesn't fit with the bench mob but we probably won't land a starting center in FA.

For the love of things all holy, Stewart is NOT a starting a center. And spare me the talk about his improved 3 point shot. Wasn't nobody fearful of Beef Stew beyond the arc. He tried to kill Lebron, I get it, but the love affair needs to stop. And Monty...this man would roll into press conferences and tell us with a straight face that starting Hayes, Knox, or Livers was better than starting Ivey. GTFOH with that BS. Yes Weaver blew it in free agency, but the way Monty was coaching was sheer basketball malpractice.

I just wanna get this outta the way.....I'm really starting to feel that perhaps this owner is not the answer to own a professional basketball team. Overall......I'm thinking whomever "The HOBO" will be (unless he/she is whack) will NOT DO any firings until they do their own assessment of the current staff. There just isn't enough time to do ANYTHING. The only believable trade I can see is maybe trading with the Wizards to get Kuzma since they don't give a damn about winning right now. We give them the 5th and Ivey. Then they have 2 picks in the top 5 plus a PG of the future. I wouldn't trade for Ingram since I don't think we could resign him after the season.

Some guys still need to develop fundamentals. You can't do it playing against NBA teams. If you put a talented, but raw guy out there, you're risking just giving them bad reps instead of opportunities to improve. It happened a lot with Duren, Ivey and Ausar this past season

Didn't even really predict this, I just knew it was gonna happen. The fifth pick. Signing some idiot to babysit the other idiots. Draft a bust at 5, sign nobody in free agency and go into next season with pretty much the same team and same front office. Nothing will change. Tom gores and his goons have no idea what the hell they are doing. This isnt a debate of "will they make the right move or the wrong move?" it is "will they make any moves at all?" Do any of use really believe that Tom gores has any idea just how bad this is and what he needs to do fix it. He doesn't have the slightest idea. I highly doubt he even cares. Only thing that matters to him is profit. If they aren't profiting he'll go out and sign another blake griffin to attract tickets for a season. He needs to be gone forever asap or this team will continue to be the worst in the NBA for a while.

First, I want to say Id like Detroit to take a shot on Duke legend Trajan Langdon. He's done good work with Pelicans and worked his way up starting off as a scout. Wasnt much of an NBA player but was great in college. Second Detroit can't trade their 5th pick. They will have to select in any scenario then trade the player selected. Lastly Monty tried benching Ivey and we all know how that worked out. So really we just have to wait and see. There is no clear direction but what hasnt been expressed in any of the videos is how the 1st/2nd Apron will affect draft value. The 5th pick represents a cost controlled potentially a valuable way to get good players on a great contract. The 5th pick is about half as much as the first pick and this could be a factor for teams looking for cheap talent.

Possibly unpopular take: I'd rather not wait to possibly overpay for Connelly. We need to let go of the idea that one guy can come in and save this franchise. We need someone solid in place- it doesn't have to be someone with an already established pedigree like Connelly, who could end up being another mercenary. Go get a guy like Trajon Langdon- he seems to warrant a shot as a POBO- seems like he's done a solid job in New Orleans. Get a group in place well ahead of the draft to give ourselves the best shot.

I agree 100%. I'm not sold on Connelly anyways. Connelly struggled for 5 years in Denver, and then he got lucky with Jokic draft. Remember he drafted 3 guys before Jokic, so it's not like he thought that highly of him at the time, but he did have a good international scout under him in Denver. He then bankrupted Minnesota future with the Gobert trade. Again lucky that Ant (Who he didn't draft) has grown into one of the best players in the league this year. He appears more lucky than good IMHO. Langdon on the other hand made a great trade by sending Anthony Davis for 3 first round picks, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, and Josh Hart. He also discovered some gems in Trey Murphy and Herbert Jones in 2021 draft. Smart guy (Math degree from Duke) and "The Alaskan Assassin" knows how to identify shooters in the league.

I know Matas has higher upside then other prospects but I don’t think we can take another “project shooter” he only shot 26% from three point range. I feel like we need to at least take someone hitting 33% or better. Assuming we keep Ausar the other forward need to be a plus shooter preferably close to 40%.

I saw some scouts breaking down his the 3pt shooting. Good stroke, shot 40% the year prior. Basically said the Ignite this year had no PG on the team to initiate the offense / drive and kick options which stymied the whole offense. Matas apparently shot much worse unguarded than guarded which Never happens. Basically said this year might be an outlier / Ignites fault. They really talked up his defense averaged something like 2 steals and 1.5 blocks.

@@daveswaninger1077 It could be a an outlier, but three point percentage is the best predictor of shooting at the next level. NBA three point line is deeper than both college and high school making it harder. I don’t know the g league range for threes and I don’t know where matas played before the ignite. But it not a good indicator. The pistons lack shooting through out their roster and without knowing of any trades or free agent additions having Ausar, Duren, and matas be non shooters in a starting rotation with Cade and Ivey would be doomed. To build around Cade we realistically need 3/4 of our players to be shooters. I just think we can’t add another possible non shooter. Also matas would mostly be taking unguarded spot up threes from Cade’s passes and if he can’t hit those that would not be good.

The other option is drafting somebody like Knecht who already has an NBA shot, doesn't need much development, and probably wouldn't expect a ton of PT.

The problem wasn't their young core. It was a failed free agency and abysmal coaching. Bite the bullet and go after Miles Bridges that can start at PF. Start Simone at SF. I'd even go after Drummond that can at least net you 10 pts 10 rebs off the bench, and he's durable. If you can package the 5th, Stewart, and another piece for a solid shooter off the bench - do it. Detroit fans need to get out of fantasy land and stop acting like this is a destination town for free agents and acquisitions. Our championship teams were built on the backs of journeymen, outcasts, and a bit of luck in the draft. Monty needs to get his head out of his ass and start coaching. I guarantee if Udoka had this same squad, they'd be better than 14 wins. Not 41-41, but a lot of those close games and blown leads would at least jump to 30ish wins.
