You deserve way more subscribers, man! I've been using your "Infamous Gloomstalker/Assassin build" ever since the beginning, it's by far my favourite build in the game! Happy to see it updated :) Keep up the great work!
Great choice returning to BG3 with this combo. The Thief multi-class really leans into dealing really consistent damage on the 2h crossbow builds being able to capitalize on the bonus action for another off-had shot. Personally I really like the Assassin/Gloom combo as it can be really good for even more Nova on the first round of combat especially with Action surge and surprise. If you are having a hard time with the "Surprised" condition, try starting combat in turn-based mode as the game sometimes misses awarding it if you start combat in real-time. The other combo to look at is building around 6 levels of Swords bard as the Ranged Flourish is really abuseable and can take a Titanstring bow build way over the top.
Really glad you tout the thief build. I did a straight thief rogue in a recent tactician and wanted to find a good multiclass for it. 3 bonus actions ??? 3 dashes can save any fight from a full wipe.
I was able to complete Honor mode run with friends with this build as well! I made my self a turn-one nuke with Assassin 3 / 5 GS Ranger / Champion Fighter 3 / and War Cleric 1!! My allies would start the fight and I would hide in the shadows, when combat started, Round 1, My allies would wait for me to join combat with a sneak attack, then with Assassin's Alacrity I could sneak attack again immediately, use Dread Ambush, then attack twice more! Bonus points for using special arrows on my two regular attacks (Many Target, elemental arrows, etc.) Since the way the Arrow of Many Targets works is that if it Crits one enemy it Crits on all of them! After that our Tavern Brawler Monk could easily finish off anyone that wasn't already dead! We beat Raphael in 3 rounds of combat with that strategy and it was so fun I almost wanted to do it again! It really fits my style of gameplay
Excellent build.Only thing I'd change is going with Battle Master Fighter for the manoevers & Superiority Dice. Riposte is excellent. Strike back at attacking enemies in Melee as your Reaction .😃
Whoops, forgot I reuploaded it and didn't change the title. This guide is for the Gloomstalker Thief since thief is quite a bit superior overall compared to assassin.
Rogue 5 / Ranger 5 is a great base for a powerful and skill monkey build. Start wood half elf or human for stealth proficiency, sage background for arcana and history, rogue for intimidation, deception, persuasion, acrobatics, urban tracker and bounty hunter from ranger for Sleight of hand and investigation, arhletics from base ranger. The last 2 levels go to knowledge cleric for proficiency in all Wus skills and expertise in Religion, Nature as well ad Thaumaturgy to cover Performance check. Congrats, you are now one of the most powerful damage dealers in the game all the while having every skill proficiency. Is this fair? Who cares.
Another great build is Ranger/Gloom Stalker-5, Thief/Assassin-3, Fighter/Champion-4. Pair this with items which help crit chance. You become an insane hard hitting archer that can destroy anything.
Hahah the way i did it was lv 4 in college of swords, 6lvs in Ranger for gloom stalker and 2 lvs in fighter for that action surge or in paladin for more... close up encounter, plus I stake up on also ALOT OF INVISIBLILITY POTIONS, as well as using a hireling in wizard with the subclass trasmutation for that potion skill, mix a bit bard and rouge for extra skill slot twards medicine and BOOM extra potions for every mix, found this part out just a week ago and been crazy using this through my Honor playthrough
For more health and still the same number of feats I frame the archer build as fighter 6 champion, gloomstalker 3, thief/assassion 3 and just stack crit lowering gear
I was thinking this as well but at ranger 5 you get Pass Without Trace. This build can solo with that spell. Those couple extra HP won't mean much if they can't see you.
What you don't take into account on spells is the fact that both hunters mark and ensnaring strike are both concentration spells and one will cancel out the other as you can't cast 2 concentration spells at the same time. \
I went Rogue/Assassin using the Titan bow w/ giant strength elixirs. I find myself stealthing and getting off a couple shots before combat starts. It's hard to stay in stealth with hand crossbows limited range. And when combat does start I have all my attacks.
I ran something similar for my latest honour mode run. However I think 3 champion is straight up better than 3 bm. Manoeuvers are good, but critting almost every attack is better if your aim is to decimate everything 😅
assasins can focus on invisibility dipping in and out of combat with advantage from the shadows to make use of their passives, have to be quick so the enemy doesnt heal
This was pretty much my build but ended up swapping ranger for bard. Felt like the one extra attack on start of combat was not as good as the sword bards stuff.
If you don't mind my asking. Why didn't you go 4 Levels of Rogue than 5 ranger and 3 fighter? Instead of starting out with 1 rogue and switching to ranger at level 2?
I wanted to play a gloom stalker but still have a good charisma do you think that leaving 8 in intelligence and getting charisma at 12 can be a good idea?
