I have an xbox 360 guitar hero controller, and I'd like to use it on my PS5. Can you make a video on how I would connect it please! In this video you did the opposite of what I need by connecting a PS5 riffmaster to an Xbox 360. Please! 🙏🏾 And I just subscribed
mod kits seem scary but as someone who is terrible with messing with hardware its super easy to convert any guitar so do not be scared of the kits they are super easy to do and are wonderful
Is it possible to mod old Wii guitars too? I have a few of those guitars, they look similar to the one at 10:30 but not quite the buttons don't have the black(I also don't have the stickers). One of them doesn't work at all(the Wii plug is completely broken), one of them works but is tricky, and one of them is totally fine. I was wondering if it's possible to bring those back to life. He said a lot about modding Xbox and PS guitars but not much about Wii.
I bought two riffmasters because I haven’t been able to play guitar hero in over a decade and watching for over 6 years, and the Riffmaster working for Fortnite festival AND native YARG support has made it incredible to come back to the GH/RB community instead of only watching it. Now I’m able to play the biggest library of music with my girlfriend or friends when they’re in the mood. I completely agree Acai, it’s a great time to be in the community!
I bought two as well. I have two Rockband 4 Strats and love them. But I wanted something new as an option and the features are nice on the Riffmaster. I plan on spending more gaming time getting back into the rhythm community as well want to support the instruments as I'd love to see I all make a huge comeback as well.
The one time I've ever been recognized in public for any of my YT channels was someone looking for guitar controllers at a thrift store lol. I do think the thrift store days are long over by now. They are way too rare and valuable to be found there any more
Well would you look at that, peak just dropped. Seriously though, thanks for doing the work and putting all of this together in an easy to digest way so newcomers can have the clearest and smoothest path into the community!
It still feels so weird to see a project of mine actually go far and wide like this. Speaking of console support, i think at this point ive added support for all unmodded consoles now that had guitar hero and rb games, including emulating the ps2 controller port and the wii extension port.
You have solidified the future of playing these games until the end of time. I remember you talking about starting this project years ago. Thank you forever for your work. The community is indebted to you 🙏🏽
Yoooo I just bought a guitar from you!! So happy that you do what you do for the community. I’ve spent the past 2 years getting scammed when trying to find guitars. Can’t wait to get my order!!
The riffmaster is THE best RB controller ever! The buttons and strum bar are very quiet, smooth plastic, feels more durable than the original RB guitar. Besides the RB3 players' choice fender telecaster, this is the one!
If you have a broken guitar, buy the solderless kit and the right screwdrivers and get to work. I just did it, and it was pretty easy. Anyone can do it with the right tools. Well worth the 70ish bucks! Just do it!
I have 6 guitars and haven’t played clone hero in 3ish years I used to have a good bit of FCs under my belt, I miss playing like crazy. Every single one of my guitars over strum, might have to rip into em.
Got myself the xbox and ps Riffmaster alongside a katanamods wii guitar recently so its funny seeing this guide again after I bought my guitars after watching your previous ones and being on the loop!!
I think the one thing missing from this was a mention of the PolyBar and MiniBar projects, for building your own guitars from scratch. If you have a 3D printer and some electronics skills, you don’t need to upgrade an old guitar controller; you can produce your own shell and add electronics to it to make whatever you want the guitar to look like. Personally, I bought a Riffmaster, in as much to show that there is demand for new controllers (with official licenses and auth capabilities), but also as I like the feel of the RB guitars; I also built a Pico adapter (Santroller) to have it work on other consoles (like the RCM V3 shown in the video, just with less Wii capability and a less solid case). I’ve been using it to play RB3DX lately. Theoretically, I wouldn’t even have had to build the adapter; I could have just bought an Adafruit RP2040 Feather USB and used that.
I can appreciate that, but I feel this guide is meant more for the layman trying to get in. Even the DIY kits are solder-less and have clear instructions
Right, this video is also about the things that I have first hand experience with too. The custom guitar controller and DIY projects are things that are an entirely different space that I am not knowledgeable on yet, but in the future I WILL be talking about 👍🏾 This video is really meant for the easiest ways to get into the game and how to do it in simple ways
That’s fair enough; I only mentioned these because they were things I know about, and related to the topic of getting something that works. I just feel it isn’t too far of a step from modding older guitars to replace their electronics, to creating brand new devices; and for some, that may be the easier option, depending on what’s out there in their local area. I can understand not necessarily wanting to vouch for projects you don’t have first-hand experience with; and creating a controller is certainly not as simple as buying one off the shelf. For those who have the skill set, however, it’s likely to continue being a viable option into the future, long after the last Riffmaster comes off the production line; and that’s why I felt it worthy of mentioning.
for the RIFFMASTER, you can store the usb dongle underneath the pick guard. The pick guard itself is held only by clips and there's a little slant towards the neck where you can just pull it off.
I am blessed with several thrift shops in my area, and even more blessed with people who no longer have a need for a guitar hero controller. VintageStock and Savers for the win!
Just want to jump in and mention in case there are any Linux gamers here; the PlayStation Riffmaster works plug & play on Linux, except for whammy and tilt, and the Xbox Riffmaster works fully, including whammy and tilt, with the Xone kernel module.
Thank you for the info Acai! Loving all the new people getting into plastic guitar games. Been playing since 2007 and modding has really helped me not only feel like i'm better at the game, but gives me something creative to do with friends and family! I modded a guitar to give to my nephews who like to play Festival and only had their keyboards. This will help all the new people coming in and you're the perfect voice for that! Keep rocking!!!
i recently moved from a raphnet adapter to a retrocult v3 (my raphnets kept crapping out on me and i got sick of replacing them), it's such a massive upgrade. i love how it has tilt support and fits snugly in the wii remote slot rather than just free swangin like the raphnet.
I bought a Terpy's Customs, a few months back. You are looking at a month receive time. Mechanical Frets/Strum. Colored buttons/LEDS. 150+ range. Great quality.
I bought myself a PS2 Wireless Kramer Striker and modded it with a RetroCultMods solderless modkit and have been loving it so far. I followed these guides and have done research needed and it worked out great! So thanks for these!
Let me add that I found my guitar on eBay for like $40 in literally mint condition. Had the strap and everything. Whammy works perfectly, tilt works perfectly, and the strap holds well. Including the modkit, it cost me $110 in total. Well worth it!
I was fortunate to find the PS2 Wireless Kramer at Value Village for like 5.99 lol. Unfortunately I'm just too lazy to solder so I might look into the solderless modkit you just mentioned. I got the Riffmaster anyways but a 2nd option wouldn't be so bad
@@zlettehell yea bro I actually found my Kramer at a thrift shop for 12$ was legit shocked to see it there and next to it I saw a ps3 Stratocaster but I’m yet to find a solderless kit for it
Ayoo I made it into the vid lmao. I make the pink Ardwiino Les Paul with the galaxy blue background. Glad that you're making videos about guitars in 2024, as the market has drastically changed. Much love 🤘
Perfect timing. Going through my yearly CH (now YARG/Fortnite Festival) phase and my Les Paul that I've had from 2007 is finally starting to die lol. Great video man, thanks.
another good place to look for guitars is retro game stores i went to one and they had like two bins full of them most of them les pauls a few world tour and warriors of rock
@@mikeyaftony2464 Kills me that so many people just toss them thinking they're worthless. In a recent LTT video he was cleaning out an employee's garage and he had like 3 Wii Les Paul's and he was taunting him for having "these worthless controllers that no one wants anymore" and made him get rid of all but one. At least they got auctioned.
Omg! thank you for the shoutout! There is zero need to check out the PS/PC doyo guitars. They are basically the same as the wii ones, you can tell they just made the minimum changes to the molds. Strumbar and frets are the same, wii sized silicone and all. There is even the wiimote bay still inside lmao.
to anyone who's scared to make a custom guitar, I made a custom guitar using a retrocultmods solderless kit (wii les paul to be specific!), if you have any experience with building computers or hardware in general, the kits are very easy to use and the instructions provided are very thorough and you'll be fine!
Guitar Hero is in the arcade I visit. And it's 2024. It's mostly Guitar Hero 3 made for arcade. One of the controllers is in disrepair, has a dead button. Every music or rhythm game requires maintenance. Not sure they can replace the parts anymore. There are newer guitar games at the arcade anyways. Though I will always love playing PS2 Guitar Hero on crt tv's all day long.
Radical video. I'm not even in the market for a guitar controller right now but the info in here was really interesting and helpful for anyone looking at adapters for different controllers.
Picked up a Riffmaster after my 360 Les Paul and RB2 guitars kept dropping connection (probably because of 3rd party adapter) and had fun with it, but ended up finding a Wii Les Paul for $20 and got a RetroCultMods V3 adapter for it and it's been really fun playing through GHWT. Thank you for making these kinds of videos for people like me who have only recently been getting into 5 fret games!!!! also GO LISTEN TO LORE HERO 🗣️‼️
I remember watching your first guitar guide after I found my first wii guitar. From there, it was huge a dive it to the GH/RB community. I got to relive memories of watching my brothers play guitar hero 3. Thank you for your wisdom and love you have spread to this amazing community of music lovers. Peace and love to you. P.s. I found an Explorer at goodwill in kick ass condition. Blew my mind.
I actually bought the DOYO PS3 guitar and it’s done me good so far. You gotta do whatcha gotta do to get your craving for Guitar Hero and Fortnite Festival satisfied 😂
Shoutout to lore hero ep 40 was great 🗣really though the original guide was what got me into the series in the first place, now here we are with all these options and advancements it's crazy how better it is, I appreciate your dedication to the community to help it thrive ❤ lets not mess this up!
I just bought a ps3 les paul from ebay and am gonna mod it on my birthday later this year, thanks for everything youve done to get more people into this including me
thank you so so much for pointing me in the right direction with RCM adapters on stream a few months back, i've never had an easier experience with just getting something set up and running. it just plugged in and worked straight out of the box with my wii GHWT guitar (the orange/yellow firey one with the touch pad). been having a blast ever since, and honestly been playing clone hero more than i practise the actual instrument i play for my local wind ensemble
The V3 adapter looks like a gift of God. I knew it was a good idea to have the contacts of some uncles that I rarely speak with but live in the USA saved in my phone lmao, time to make some calls and spend the best $25 of my life, my GHWT wiitar will be happy af
I have just about one of everything mentioned in this vid. Doyo, Wii, 760creations, RetroCultMods v3, RetroCultMods kit, OG WoRtar, Xplorer, Riffmaster... But I STILL can't find out how to USE MY XBOX RIFFMASTER ON PS3 WITH THE RETROCULTMODS ADAPTER! GAHHH! I also need a strum switch to fix my BC Rich Warbeast PS2/PS3 controller. Can't find THOSE anywhere... I'd pay someone to mod my WarBeast controller... (Love you and all your vids. Super amazing that you're actively helping revive these games AND talk to devs about how to make them better)
I actually did not know that about the controller auth feature. I bought the v3 for my wii controller a few months ago, and I still have my old 360 guitar hero discs, cool to know I can revisit without buying a new controller. glad you explained that!
I have gotten two kits from terpy customs, one for a xplorer and one for a 360 les Paul. Both work great with my only complaint being the turn around time on kits getting finished and mailed out is a bit long
I can’t believe you left out the cursed Elmo guitar I made you play with at the off season 2, everyone should look for those 10/10 best guitar out there
The Doyo guitars are good for one thing and one thing only: the shells. With the drop in LP kits, it can sometimes be the easiest way to get a guitar up and running.
I went with the riffmaster because I felt it was worth it for me in australia to pay the extra money to guarantee a guitar that will work and is easy to obtain over the facebook marketplace/ebay listings with old controllers that potentially don't work or come with the dongles
I just got a riffmaster a week ago after coming off of GH guitars my whole life and I can honestly say I love it more than any guitar I’ve ever used. I’m not a hardcore player but I’m also not casual and I can’t think of anything about the riffmaster that I don’t like, except the lack of select button by the strum bar (which is a common gripe it seems). It’s a fantastic quality guitar: the buttons feel amazing and the strum bar is very nice. I can’t recommend it enough for anywhere from casual to long time players
You're literally the reason why I unboxed my old alienware pc and got it up to snuff so I could start playing clone hero! My only problem now is finding a guitar and it's been rather rough trying to find one over the past week. Thanks for the video and insights!
Been playing these games since 2005 and following you and the other Lore Hero guys for *years,* and yet I *STILL* learned some new stuff from this video! I love my SG, and as a result, I've been playing the scuffed PS2 ports of every Guitar Hero and Rock Band game instead of the 360 versions (although I do own both versions of each game). You're telling me there's a modern adapter that lets me use my SG on 360 and other consoles??? Unreal! Also, the fact that I can use a Riffmaster on older hardware (which I only learned from this video) is a game changer because my friend recently got a Riffmaster, but now we only play Rock Band 4 together since that's what he has a guitar for. I am so excited to play Rock Band 1-3 with him now, and he can even use his same guitar!!! Thanks Alec!! You're a real one for this video.
RCM’s V2 adapter is also amazing, and single handedly allowed me to use my Wii Les Paul I’ve had since childhood not just with Clone Hero, but with the PS3 GH/RB games as well as Rock Band 4 on PS4. This thing is friggin magic and it’s cheap. I love it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE LINKS. Just bought my first guitar with printing party and super excited to try it out and let you know how well it works. I have spent the past 2 years getting scammed or sent broken guitars so to finally hopefully buy something of value. Thank you Acai
Amazing video. Where i bought my Wii Les Paul was on Marketplace. I'm from Perú and it is kinda hard to get a guitar (a good one), so i was searching around a month and found one for like 20$, then i bought a Wiimote too for another 10$ and i connected it to my PC. With the GlovePie program, my bluetooth dongle and a Guitar Hero 3 script i can play Clone hero with good latency and also Fortnite Festival (tricky to configure). I wish i could get the V3 adapter but in the meantime it's a good choice :D i've been playing and having so much fun for a month and getting better (already downloaded like 500 songs lmao).
This is the ultimate guide for the current environment of plastic guitar video games. But it really shows how badly we need new guitar hero style guitars instead of RB style like the Riffmaster.
Love Guitar Hero and Rock Band, played it insane mutch for hours and hours, i ordered my Riffmaster to PS5 and i am so exxited to get it and start playing On Rock band 4 and Forrnite Festivale😎🔥🤘🇳🇴
Really good vid. For those of you that are solder adverse like me, Terpy customs makes a solderless Arduino modkit that replaces all the internals of your gh controller for $80. Def worth a try if you're not afraid of modding the inside of the shell a bit so everything fits right.
I got a controller from 760 like a year or two ago. That thing will forever be my favorite controller and i always tell my friends to try and get some every time they go on sale lol
i've learned that you don't need to spend a lot to get started. i'm still running an old GH3 guitar from childhood with a raphnet adaptor and it works wonders.
Glad I got my ps2 classic red controllers for 2 years ago goodwill prices, can vouch for this guide he literally did all the research for me. I’m a noob and am 100% knew it would be hard for me to enjoy the game if it was expensive.
Just got a solderless kit for my X360 les paul from retrocultmods, took 12 days to get from the US and took a couple of hours to sort out, amazing controller - couldn't recommend him more
I think the Riffmaster for my Series S is right for me. I love Fortnite Festival to death, but man playing with an xbox controller is painful! I'm also looking towards playing Rock Band 4 since it's compatible. I'll definitely will consider looking back at this video if I pick up a guitar for another platform. Thanks for the video!
I am now encouraged to go out and finally buy the plastic guitar I've been wanting for a while now, was just waiting for the right situation (I'm on Mac and Xbox). Cheers, Acai.
Honestly Alec, you have done us all a big favor here, at least to people likr mewho had no clue what guitars worked and their compatability for games and consoles. This video has now given me the confidence to try and find one of these guitar controllers to buy with an adapter so i van play Re ival on my Xbox One and maybe some other games like that. Much love man, thank you.
now that I am watching, alec's actual youtube specific videos, and not the edited streams, I would've never imagined (as a Spanish speaker) that it was pronounced "Asai" instead of "Akai"
From Brasil, i made my custom Guitars with Rafael from Machado Customs, he Rocks, and i can't recomend enough his work, he helped me saved my Wortar and a Mayflash, and i still trying to get a windowmaker bass for him to work with
One of the most essential videos out there rn, this is some great work. I'm sorta willing to risk it getting the solderless kit from RetroCultMods for my bootleg Wii Les Paul and actually make it properly playable instead of "just werks", but the only thing I worry about is losing support for my real Wii if I do the modding. Any help of people who have modded Wii guitars (and especially bootleg ones) is appreciated.
100% back this (ALSO- for Riffmaster, behind the pickguard is a slot for the USB to go! weird that its hidden but that should keep a lot from losing their dongle)
I would love to mod my old wiitar at some point, the frets are so damn stiff and it just hurts my hands to play (have had some surgeries) Appreciate all the work you do for the community and helping us know what we can do
I love my RetroCultMods adapters! Bought one and it was so great I bought a second to have a spare. Disappointed you didn't mention Roll Limitless though. They're not just for drums anymore. They're becoming universal adapters just like the RCM adapter. The 2nd gen ones currently available can be used on basically any console (or PC) and can be switched to use with either drums or guitar. The 3rd gen ones that aren't quite out yet, however, are really going to be great. They will have bluetooth built into the adapter which allows you to connect it to a PC to either change settings, change the firmware, or broadcast the controller outputs to your stream. (The current 2nd gen adapters due also support bluetooth functionality, you just have to connect a bluetooth dongle in a hub with your ps/xbox controller, it's a little wonkier. The new ones are so much slicker.) The full adapter is a bit expensive, $100, that includes an old Midi port for drums. If you're not using drums though or just connect your drums with USBmidi, there's a mini version for half the price. Only real difference is it's missing that legacy midi port.
