This is one of the better and most informed lists i think I’ve seen, great work man. I’m no expert outside the SEC so i won’t comment on those but I’m a little lower on S Carolina, Florida, and Arkansas than you are. Would be shocked to see more than one of them make a bowl, but who knows. All around great thoughtfulness for this list though, keep it up!
Auburn fan here, thats a fair take. Freeze probably could have upgraded at QB in the portal, but I think he was smart about it. He knows he’s more than a QB away. I think we’ll be in the playoff hunt next year
I actually think Louisville is being quietly slept on right now. They were a really solid team last season and they pulled in one of the best portal classes again. I believe in Tyler Shough and if he doesn't work out I actually think Clarkson could be a good option as well. If the defense can be as good as last year up front and in the secondary, another ACC title trip is on the horizon. My main concern for Louisville is that this schedule is significantly tougher. They were the beneficiaries of a very friendly schedule last year. They also clearly had some flaws and at times it was difficult to watch their offense. Maybe another year under Brohm can mean more consistency.
This season will essentially boil down to how effectively the Tigers are able to replace Blake Baker. If their defense can still hold their own and young players like Williams Nwaneri step it up instantly, there's zero reason their offense can't carry them to the playoff.
@@CFBudge Yeah, i agree, good take! The one big question for me is how Missouri will be able to replace Kris Abrams-Draine and Ennis Rakestraw. Toriano Pride from Clemson looks good, but I don't feel as confident for the defense. Offense is top 10 in the country and just got better even without Cody Schreader. Should make it to the playoffs
ND is not thin at the skill position. They have fantasitc RB and TE rooms and they used the portal very well to improve the WR room. They have 7 WRs who have started in their careers. Nothing about that is thin
OkState is a top contender. Offense: Nations leading rusher returning behind an O-line of 6 super seniors and a redshirt senior. Alan Bowman threw for 3460, 16th in the nation. Alan Bowman had more passing yards last season than any other current XII QB has in any of their seasons (at P5, *Shedeur 2022 at Jackson State), sure he threw a decent amount of INTs, but out of the 4 players last year that threw for 500+ attempts, 2 threw more INTs, the 4th was Michael Penix. Brennan Presley and Rashad Owens had 991 and 895 receiving yards respectively and De'Zhaun Stribling will be back starting after a season ending injury last year, at the time of his injury he lead the receiving trio by a significant amount. Defense: This will be the second year under Bryan Nardo at DC, he has made a lot of big changes in the off season in regards to position and scheme of players. Kendal Daniels, who had 105 TOT which was 5th XII and 47th nationally, put on 15 pounds and moved up to linebacker. Nick Martin lead the XII at 140 TOT, 5th in the nation. Trey Rucker had 100 TOT, 8th XII and 59th nationally. That is the only P5 trio to all have 100+ tackles last year. We also have Collin Oliver moving up to Edge Rusher where he thrives. Nardo had some struggles in his first year, but one thing that was consistent was second half adjustments, average opponents points per quarter: 1Q = 8.0, 2Q = 10.5, 3Q = 5.5, 4Q = 5.3. Ollie and Bowman got very little play time int he first 3 games and still put up record school numbers and will have the same O-line in front of them. Second year under the DC with major changes in the off season. The coaches and players have never been this energetic and bought in, combined with this much talent, and a relatively easy schedule, they should come out of the gate on the gas every game. The fact that media and odds makers are so lo on them is honestly mind boggling
I wouldn't put them as a contender yet because the lost badly to UCF and South Alabama. They are a good and I don't think they are worse than Iowa State or Kansas State . But when you lose to South Alabama in a blowout in your own stadium, It's tough to say that are a tough contender especially when OSU plays in a big 12 with a lot of fodder teams.
@@CFBudge Gundy's record in one score games is within a single percentage of his overall record, that literally makes no difference to this team. The blowout losses: South Alabama we were rotating 3 QBs to decide our starter and Ollie got 5 total touches, UCF was played in a monsoon and didn't have any equipment to keep dry.
Texas hasn't won a playoff game and is coming into the SEC. I wouldn't put them nowhere in the same class as Georgia and Ohio State who are consistently winning.
@CFBudge says the guy with Iowa State above them. Stop ignoring the obvious. It's vastly improved. Kris Mitchell and Beaux Collins were great additions. And they also have a great tight end. And last time I saw, we had 10 wins, not 9 last year 😉
@CFBudge I'm not mad at you having ND lower than most. I'm mad that you are outright ignoring how ND upgraded their receiving talent. You didn't at all mention how they addressed that position. This isn't last year. If you actually had good reasons as to why you may not like the new talent, I'd buy in. But this is straight up obvious. Go Irish! 🍀🍀🍀
