I am not sure if this is mentioned but the Orange and Pink curl formers are the same size, but they do go in opposite directions. I love curlformers and always used two packs. They work much better. My only issue is drying time, and I just set last night, this is a great option for natural or relaxed hair.

I feel the same way. I was going to give it another try and this time I'll twist the roots (about an inch) and hook the rod on my hair below the twist. I saw these tips in the comments. And try to use smaller sections. Hopefully this will help you and me.
So glad I found this video. I've used my curlformers twice and I was struggling with how to get all the hair into the roller. Never thought about covering the hook with the roller in the push-up method...will definitely try it again. Love what they do to my hair.
SmoochBoosh Lol I KNOW! Even with sections nice and even I can't avoid the hook snagging. I wonder if we just need to use a product with more slip or something. I dunno I'm almost ready to give up, but I'll let you know if I figure it out
SmoochBoosh It's really important to make sure that all of the hair in the section ends up INSIDE the hook. If there is any hair outside of the hook when you try to pull the hair through the curlformer, then it will tangle. I got enough hairs yanked and tangled in a curlformer to know that much. Hope that helps! :)
I watched the curlformers tutorial with the knockoff curlformers and decided to purchase them. Well after several months of the curlformers sitting in the bag I decided to try them out. I love them! I ordered another pack because I do like my curls to be more defined. The process is effortless once you have done it at least once. I put them in on hair that was recently washed. The second time I put them in I sprayed my hair with water a few days after the original application and reinstalled the curlformers. My hair came out great! The curlformers work great on my natural hair, thanks!
Decided awhile ago that i didn't want to use any form of chemicals in my hair. I was going to get kinky twists put in. I came across your posts and became addicted. I bought all the products and then decided to put in a head full of natural hair mini twists in one day. I am still a little shy about doing the BC so for now i will just trim until its all natural. My mini twists are cute but i don't have the length yet. Love that you use all natural products. Thanks for the inspiration!!
I love the knock off brand that I purchased they are super easy to install. I'm just having a hard time making the curls last. My hair puffs out so easy. I think I will try the flax gel that was used on the rod roller video
I am so glad I saw this video. I started using curl formers this summer and they have been great for styling my hair while on interviews. Personally I cant sleep in those things but I do find that smooth silky curls can be achieved in one hour under a hood dryer set to cool. Just drink something hot and wear a sweat shirt.
So I have had curlformers for a while and could not get a technique that would not rip my hair; your technique has actually worked for me. Thank you SO MUCH for this video. Theresa Gordon girl yes. my hair is a inch shorter than hers and completely natural. I get shamed on it all the time because people are so use to fake stuff.
I didn't damp my hair, instead I used motion's pink lotion and it added shine, moisture and is AMAZING for your hair. I then brushed my hair and braided it in sections and after I braided each section to keep the moisture locked in, I followed the steps in this video and the curls are GORGEOUS!! thank you so much!!
I finally bought curlfomers on Friday, and I must say they are amazing. They are so easy to use. I have very thick 4c hair and it stretched my hair into a huge, lovely curly fro.
I'm not a hair expert. But I do know that when I try to twist my hair it gets dry frizzy and poofy really fast. I would suggest putting leave in conditioner even when you get out the shower. And also keeping a spray bottle to damp your hair while you section your off while you put in your curl formers.
Love! I'm natural goin on 3yrs and I can't wait untill my hair is long enough to wear out. Ive kept my hair in braids and weaves every since my (big cut) aka cutting my permed ends. And its been growing since!

+Arianna Quiero Weirdly enough, the dupes are way more sturdy than the originals, plastic is thicker, curls easier, etc. So if you need an extra pack, I'd recommend trying those. I bought 2 sets of 30 from Amazon for like $20 and am glad I did because I also manhandle everything too lol.

I love curlformers! I have them in my hair right now. My hair is slightly above APL and it's thick "4c" hair. Curlformers are the absolute best way to stretch my hair. I usually comb my hair out of the curls and wear a huge, fluffy afro. Other times when I want a cute look, ill just leave the curlformer curls in and wear it like that.
Love your videos, very informative...I've been natural off and on during my entire 78 years! Just bought curlformers today, applied a little water and coconut oil on dry hair, put one in, waited for it to dry...WOW! THE CURL WAS AWESOME!...gonna set my entire head tonight before going to bed, if the outcome is as expected I'll use a picture in a music video that I'm creating...and send you the link!
wen i was young my mom sed i had to wait until i was 15 for a perm but seeing people like you with beautiful natural hair i no longer want a perm thank you:) also i just but some curlformers and im soooo happy!
Usually I use Giovanni Direct Leave-In for all of them, for the tighter curls and kinks I add a little Whipped Shea Butter for longer moisture retention. And I mean A LITTLE, if you add too much it can make your hair greasy and it will take longer to dry. I have to say I envy 4c girls out there. Your hair is thicker, has less shrinkage, so it not only hangs longer, but it shows it's growth more quickly. Plus less shrinkage means less tangles and less fairy knots. You're one of the lucky ones.
@naptural85 i've been using curlformers for some time now since i've started my transitioning process 6 months ago and i never thought about using them on damp hair. i tried it the other night and my curls came out soft 1000 times better. thanks for the tip.

!!!! I just finished putting curlformers in my hair. I always am discouraged because it takes me so long to put them all in, but knowing my previous results (plus seeing yours here) helps me remember it's worth it. I love this style on you!
I tried this last night and it worked pretty well. I used your method except that I used a shea/coconut oil mix instead of shea butter and I occassionally combed sections before using the curlformer. My curls didn't come out shiny like yours but they have a nice sheen--I think that I can attribute that to differences in hair texture. I agree that curlformers are uncomfortable to sleep in but for the results, I'd do it again. Thanks!
Wow, that looks great! You are making me want to try the curlformers. The added bonus was the fact that u didn't use any combs or anything and you still got a nice, smooth set.
Thanks for this tutorial. I used my curlformers for the first time and it came out great. I used flaxseed gel for me ends and for better definition to tame my frizzy ends. I also twisted each section around my finger at the root just to make sure that my hair didn't get tangled up in the curler when I put the hook on. I also used your tips for maintaining the curls from another video and my hair still looked good today and I am a very wild sleeper. I'm transitioning (2 months) and I am excited about all the style possibilities without heat. I'm hooked on your videos.

Nice job on the video - I have been using curlformers for about two years - almost daily- if you want to sleep with them overnight use cut off pantyhose and place over your head to keep them in place - this will cut down on the drying time but place the pantyhose over your head just before going to sleep.
I love the curlformers. It is a wonderway heatless way to curl hair. It is amazing that I can achieve that straight look without heat. My hair also has lots of body and movement. I bought one set plus two 6-packs. So, I have 52 in all. I still need more because I have to make some larger than I'd like to. My hair length ranges from 13 to 18 inches.
Love it! I actually saw Curlformers mentioned by one of your subscribers but hadn't seen the original video. I went out and bought some a few months ago and the rest is history. I do some minimal detangling at the ends to ensure they stay smooth but otherwise easy peasy. Perfect results every time. It was definitely a struggle my first go-round...it took me almost 4 hours! But, now I can do my whole (big) head in one hour. I can't see drying my hair any other way.

I went to their website (to see about buying these) and I just wanted to point out that the orange and pink are the same size. The colors are to tell you which direction the curl is going (counterclockwise vs. clockwise). :) Your hair is absolutely gorgeous!
this is sooooooo inspiring. i saw this first video and i was in a different place in my life. but watching this video im truly inspired, i usually blow dry my hair, flat iron and then do nice tight curls with my flat iron over and over again to get the look im going for. but i would much rather do this and let my hair rest from heat for a good while. i've got some major damage. thanks for doing another tutorial im definitely buying a pack!
Your hair always looks so beautiful! I try to copy all of your boho-esque hairstyles styles. After trying this a few times I started using a dime size amount of flaxseed gel on each section before using the curlformers on damp hair and it leaves my hair shiny and the set lasts for at least 3 days. After a few days I remoisturize and twist up my hair for a twist out on the stretched hair.
don't have thick hair like yours but I definitely love the results will try these curler out since they are not a stiff as the flexirods, which I have tried and loved the results enough to wear it out. Didn't look nearly as silky as the curlformers results. I notice a lot of YT's have incredible smooth results when it done on freshly washed hair. I will try it out myself.
Wonderfuly done! I am a new natural transitioner and these videos help me a lot right now going 8 months strong. I was just going to buy some of these curlformers when a coworker said she tried going natural but gave up. So she let me use hers to try before I buy I am determined to keep going I love being natural so far. I am going to try this method I haven't got shea butter but will try that next time.

I bought these and returned them because I didn't like how they look on my length. (shoulder length). Maybe I'll repurchase when my hair is longer, but they did come out perfect! Beautiful hair.
So I tried Curformers for the first time using the 40 Extra Wide/Large. The negative...I agree with Naptural85 - they are not fun to sleep in. Don't think I slept. LOL! The positive....the results are SIMPLY AMAZING!! Just took them out and I am so amazed. I like her idea of using more Curlformers, so will try that down the road. Also, I will sit under a hood dryer instead of sleeping in them. Thanks Naptural85!! I am truly pleased with the results....soft, shiny, curls :)
I just got mine in the mail about 20 minutes ago, I sat right down and opened the pack. Holding one up to hair I immediately notice that stretched hair is at least 3" longer than the rod. Then I came back to your video to see how to use it again. It's very easy to apply, my hair didn't get caught so I put in about 6 for the real test. I laid my head on a pillow and on the back of the sofa and it was not unfortable! I can't wait to have my whole head curled, something I haven't done since 2006
I tried this the night before last and let me tell you. Amazing results but a total nightmare to sleep in. I gave up after 3 hours of fighting for a position for my head on the pillows. Snatched out the curlformers and wow!!! Silkly curls and a sore neck. I recommend (assuming you have quick drying hair like mine) that you do them in the morning with a light hold foam or gel (I made my own with flaxseed). Let it air dry for about 3 hrs and you should be good to go!!!
I never thought about only using shea butter, i will try that on my next curlformer set. I always use to packages of curlformers and do it on damp freshly washed hair.
