Pro Tip: If you goof up and grab 15 schematics, leaving no room for the mission item, relog and run before the container loads in. I suggest side-stepping. You'll be outside the container, allowing for ship recall and unloading of inventory. :P

I was logging out to desktop, into vanilla ED (not even horizons) once I was full, then going back for more. Now I realise that if I park my ship right by the site, I can leave the room before the container loads in, dump stuff at the ship, and get another 15. I've just picked up 45 weapon schematics and I'm not stopping there.

I love Elite immersion, log-out, relog, log-out relog, exploit containers vanishing due to mission complete. Great guide, but it's heartbreaking that this is the way we need to play this game. Exploiting the game to minimize the grind.

@@MarkZeroGaming I agree that you don't absolutely need to do it this way but if you want to get the upgrades done any time before the next update these exploits are effectively needed. Especially if you are a casual player.

What's really immersion immersion breaking in my opinion is that materials needed for engineering have to be personally mined in SRV's or farmed from Jameson or other random crash sites made famous by the grind guides. Don't tell me the immense commodities market doesn't just have Selenium and other materials all over the place. I would get needing to scan shields and wake signatures to get data for shield and frame shift upgrades maybe. But pretty much everything else should be available to buy for credits in various spots. Even if it's sometimes expensive special orders that take real time up to a day to arrive. No real combat pilot is going to risk life and limb surface mining and unless they're a pirate they shouldn't be forced into raiding settlements for items that would obviously just be on the galactic commodities markets. Frontlines should be offering components plus less credits as an alternative victory reward to incentivize their best workhorses signing up and to improve their chances of continued success.

The game has a lot of good things, but the design to upgrade is terrible. ::: do grindy things for an engineer to recognize you, do more grindy things for the engineer to talk to you, then do more grindy things to do small upgrades and add-ons.

Hey you dont need DSS, just fly up to planet, before you get close enough to enter orbit, the POI's on the surface will reveal in nav panel and on surface. Good idea staying in container, I will have to give it a try, as I usually cut into all 3 and e-breach yellow containers.

Did this exact thing yesterday. Also you can position yourself at the back of the SRV and keep relogging while getting the 6 parts in it. Easily can grind up all the circuits you need

Still works as of 2022/08/21 also using the method to side-step when loading begins to bring back your full loot. However, I noticed that missions of the type procurement are very rare. Mostly it is freelance, esp. in the relevant anarchy systems. Second, I had to search long time to find any mission with "hidden cache".

Hi Dave, thank you for this. Just to add, to get out of the container it is pretty easy. Just before reloading, walk forward few feet and Voila! You can recall your ship, empty your inventory and go back and do it over again till you are sick and tier of doing it.

a year later, and some people in the comments saying procurement isn't a thing, or it's replaced with freelance. it is still a thing, you have to own odyssey, disembark your ship at a station, and use the terminals inside the station. this is the only way to accept odyssey missions.

A surface scanner is not needed to find mission targets. And while locking yourself inside a container might be slightly safer, if you just relog outside you have all 3 containers to loot. Pirates hardly ever spawn.

I love it so much. Ths is what we talk when we ask for meaningful gameplay mechanics. Is there any other game that is based in restarting/relogging? The saddest thing is how happy you sound telling us this. And reading (most of) the comments just accepting it makes me cry. PS: The effort you do to try to help this game deserves huge respect but... you are also in a way trying to make excrements edible.

Still works. But there’s possibly a bug that when you pick up the quest item, it doesn’t update the mission as completed. Dumping the quest item from your backpack, logging out and back in, then picking up the item from the container again worked. Thanks for this great guide D2EA!

I have actually got one better idea to add to this, when your backpack is full, log to main menu and back and the second you spawn and before the containers spawn, Jump really high and you will land on top of the container after it has spawned. Go to your ship and empty your backpack, then gain entrance to the containers again and continue to fill up your backpack again. If you have an alt that you can double box with then have them get into another container and double your farming rate. I got over 600 in one day doing this. Wait till you have all the weapon schematics you want before collecting the mission material.

Great guide as usual Astro, but you can speed things up even more. Fill your backpack with weapon schematics, don't bother with the mission item. Then log out and back in as usual, but walk away before the container spawns. You can then recall your ship, empty your backpack, dismiss your ship again and your free to repeat the same site until the mission expires, if you want.

This doesn't work anymore. Once you pick up the mission item you remain locked in the container even upon quitting to desktop. I had to load into Horizons to escape, which of course caused me to lose all the items I had picked up.

Alternatively, if you get stuck in a container, you can double jump right after you logged in and before they respawn around yourself. Got out that way when I got stuck.

Hey Astro. Great tutorial vid as ever. But I kind of think that a game that requires you to log in and out multiple times in order to progress in any reasonable timeframe is fundamentally broken. It’s the same with collecting all materials. F Dev need to completely rethink the engineering materials game mechanic to not make it such a grind. I’ve said it before but if there was a way to develop your character as an engineer (eg a fleet carrier add on and based on the level of experience of engineering modules) such that you can earn the materials rather that have to grind for them. The grind is the big thing that makes me reluctant to progress further in the game.

instant fix: just let us buy these materials (and all engineering materials) with credits from the Materials Trader. I don't care if they are expensive - money I have, time I do not have.

Oddly enough I feel like CoD figured out fun and simple weapon upgrading 20 years ago and it basically amounts to XP. More XP, more unlockables. Pay for unlockables with money, swap them on and off at your leisure. Why on earth they thought that copying the engineering grind from ships to on foot but making it even more tedious when they knew it was broken and hated by the community is beyond me. Practically self sabotage at this point.

Appears to have changed, need E breaker to open door now and even though you pick up mission item it doesn’t register and spawns you back in locker so need the horizons checkout 👍

I've given up on Elite Dangerous now that Frontier abandoned the console versions. It took me a long time to save up enough change to buy Elite Dangerous for my PlayStation 4.

If this method still works, I'd suggest to store the goods from every container to your ship/SRV on the first run, before locking yourself inside.

look for "retrieving a memory chip from a crash site" mission. when you land at it, dont retrieve the memory chip just download data. quit to main menu, log back in. rinse and repeat forever, just watch your energy getting depleted. cheers

you need odyssey and you need to disembark your ship and use the terminals inside the station. odyssey missions are only be accepted this way.

For me it did not works. I'm at the right irregular markers ( the blue one ) but when I take the mission good it do not trigger the completed mission so I have to go to Horizons to get out of the container and then I lost 14 weapons schematic.

@@benoitcastonguay8155 Turns out FDev made it so the "Mission" item is a unique version of that item rather than just a normal of them; so there is one container that has this particular single item you need out of the three; what I would do instead is open all containers then return to your ship without taking the item and reset the instance, yes you may run into pirate spawns but nothing a little splat with the SRV cant handle.

It's been HOW many updates of Odyssey now - 10? 11? - and STILL the best effort from Frontier amounts to endlessly relogging into the game. This is the 'gameplay' we are supposed to enjoy. Absolutely fucking **PATHETIC**!! :(

Wth is this? xDDD When i relog on a Settlement all containers are empty but the crashsite not because the containers are ONE Missionprop? Uff sry but this is lazy programmed ^^^^ but i think because the video that expoit will be fixed xD hell they even make the Crystallforests even disapeered and just make them useless in Odyssey soooo we need to relog in horizon lol

if frontier were "fixing" the crystal forests to stop us farming them, they wouldn't show up in Horizons either. The reason they are different in Ody is because of the new surface generation stuff, it just works differently. There is nothing stopping you logging into Horizons to do stuff (at the moment I do like 80% of my playing in Horizons, cos it's simply a superior experience)

not strictly speaking an exploit though. this has been the way you farm materials pretty much since Dav's Hope was discovered (and Frontier said they're ok with that). An exploit is some unintended thing that players take advantage of that gets bugfixed and patched pretty quickly. Frontier can't patch this because this is playing their game as intended.

Hi. Very nice video. Now, you are making a common mistake found in many such help videos. You are using a suit with night vision and other upgraded gear, while making a video supposedly for players without said upgrades. You need to make the video in the same gear as your target audience so it looks realistic to them what they might expect.

It's exploiting. There's a difference. Doing this only changes the experience for the person doing it. It's their game and it doesn't effect your game, so why does it matter?
