Thank you for this. I've had lots of help in the discord channel in the past but forgot some of the steps that was missing from then to now with my new card. Didn't get that HD yet. This is so helpful to have all in one video. And thanks again to you and mute for helping in discord.
after installing windows on the steam deck the first time using the partitioning method i realized i don't have to use another pc to reinstall steam os or windows. my last pc doesnt allow me to install windows to go on the micro sd card (using the same 512gb sandisk extreme that comes with a sd card reader) but i found a way around still managing to install windows to go on it. after using my last pc to partition the steam deck and install windows on the other i have i boot up windows from there and connect the sandisk extreme and windows on the steam deck identifies it on rufus which my last pc struggled with and even when it did detect it, it wouldn't allow me to run when i'd try to install windows to go on it. but using windows through the steam decks hard drive and connecting the micro sd card will be able to do it no problem. the main reason i went through all that trouble rather than just using windows from the hard drive is because id rather have windows on the micro sd card with 512gb while being able to reset the steam decks drive to steam os and keeping it at 512gb rather than 256 / 256 if that makes sense. just commenting this in case anyone else has trouble with another pc not identifying the micro sd card on rufus or allowing it to install windows to go on it. also i never used the samsung sd card but i've had no problems at all with windows on the micro sd card. this is the entire method i used for the debloating: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YWHZ2ukQCTo.html and it for sure helped doing all the battery plan changes and advanced options. it runs everything pretty well.
I'm considering wherther to follow this tutorial or your tutorial of installing it on a partition of the ssd. I'd prefer the simplicity of having it on an sd card but was initially concerned that the performance would't be great running off an sd card. Have you noticed a significant performance difference in games with windows on an sd card vs ssd or is it not really a problem?
I used the 512 GB SanDisk Extreme Pro and it worked amazingly well. I do recommend SSD over SD Card as some SD cards have been known to fail prematurely when using it to run an OS. My SD still work fine though. You will have more peace of mind with an SSD
i am not a native speaker, but i really like your clear voice (beside that the video is a GREAT help !!) I would love to know what happend to the PowerButton in Windows. Can it also suspend and retourn in every game without issue? Thank you anyway - great Vid !! Liked + Followed ;-)
Great video!! Just a question when you switch between os are you going into boot menu every time or is there something else. so if i was in windows or steam i would have to switch it off then go to boot menu ect?
Thanks! And yes. To Switch from Windows to SteamOS you would have to go into the boot menu. To switch from SteamOS to Windows you can do the same or simply choose Restart in SteamOS and it will automatically boot into Windows.
It depends on which Steam Deck you have. The newest Steam Deck OLED is very quiet. Haven't tried it with Windows yet. But it is very quiet. The LCD Deck came with two different types of fans. One is louder than the other.
the SD card must only a single partition for windows? can't i have two partition in the SD card, one for emulator and the other for windows 11? possible?
My 1tb sd card won’t show up in Rufus. I plugged in my usb drive and that show up instantly. The 1tb is formatted also to windows. Can’t figure out how to get it in the device slot on Rufus
Check out 27:13 of this video ==> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IraA82T1bxE.html. This is usually the culprit. Although, if this is the issue it usually affects all games and not specific ones. Let me know if this fixes the issue.
You can clone your SteamOS using Clonezilla and restore it to any type of drive, including an SD card... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IF6UAVfWKDs.html
I get a error of media drives is missing and I can’t continue the installation can you help me? I saw a lot of tutorials and nothing working do you have any idea of what can be ?
Rufus took over 15 hrs to load onto my SD card, and it's running super slow on my deck, can't even get through initial setup I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I am using the latest ghost spectre windows 11 iso file. Literally feels like I'm installing on a machine meant to run windows 3.1 * the SD card I'm using will not format to FAT32 only NTFS not sure if that's important.
It's just one I had laying around, brand looks to be EMTec. Your probably right, I was wondering if that was the issue. Thank you for the swift reply too, was not expecting that.
Everything has gone well, just like your instructions. I am however stuck on one thing. Windows tells me the handheld exe isn't able to be installed. Have i downloaded the right exe as i never know if ive downloaded the right one from github!
I believe this is the most recent build of HC here. Try this and let me know if it works for you. I just recently installed this not too long ago... github.com/Valkirie/HandheldCompanion/releases/download/0.15.1.1/Handheld.Companion-Release-net7.0-0.15.1.1-offline.exe
hey i need a quick help, i cant download anything on my sd card, i mean no matter what version of rufus i use or what iso file i use it always says extracting iso file failed. What should i do? I tried windows 11, tiny11 - few versions of tiny11 but everytime it says extracting iso file failed.
Sounds like the issue may be the SD card. Do you have a spare SD card laying around that you can test to see if you get the same error? If it works on another SD card but not this one, then it could be the SD card
If the Latency issue is only present in warzone then that might have more to do with your connection to Warzone's servers than with PS Remote Play. How about in other games?
Personally, I have not used that card. But i'm confident that it will work. I would recommended getting a card that is fast which will cost a little more but will yield better results.
Time Zone Registry Edit 1. Launch CMD and Run As Administrator 2. Type the following: reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation" /v RealTimeIsUniversal /d 1 /t REG_DWORD /f 3. Press Enter
If you DL all your games on steam os already on an sd card. Then do a dual boot on the same sd card. Will it delete the games that’s in there? And I have to redownload the games again? And also do I have to DL the games on windows so it will work for windows and steam os games need to be downloaded on steam os? Or can I download all the games on steam os and it will work on windows too?
If you have an SD Card with games on it and you want to install Windows on that same SD card you will lose those games because RUFUS will format the entire SD card before installing Windows. You will have to redownload your games. If you want to use the same SD card to store games for SteamOS and also the Windows OS and games for Windows we recommend partitioning the SD card using the NTFS/EXT4 partition method shown in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VVoodxlO3oA.html. There are other methods (BTRFS) that will allow you to share the games between both without a partition but we do not recommend it because Windows and SteamOS will have to update the games every time you switch between Windows and SteamOS. Also, it requires a script that can be broken and have to be reapplied when broken.
Are you referring to the size of the actual Drive C? That should be much larger. You will see other partitions created as well. Those are EFI partitions used for booting up. But the main Drive C partition should be over 400 GB
Time Zone Registry Edit 1. Launch CMD and Run As Administrator 2. Type the following: reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation" /v RealTimeIsUniversal /d 1 /t REG_DWORD /f 3. Press Enter
@@OVERKILLGAMING786 thx for responding i am useing rufus 3.22 and there is no box that says list all usb devices and i tryed 2 512 gb micro sd card both did not work but when i tryed my 32 gb sd card it worked but i dont want to use the 32gb sd cuz i wanna get some games.
Can I do this with Windows 10? I don't want to use Windows 11 Edit: Everything worked out fine! I now have Windows 10 on my steam deck which is really cool! Just when using Win10 in handheld mode it also sometimes becomes unresponsive and I have no clue how to stop it. For example the touchpad mouse stops moving or clicking or the programs itself stop responding and it says "Not Responding" is there any way to fix this?
my deck is on windows 10. Would you recommend updating to 11? I keep getting an error when trying to update in windows. Been too lazy to do it from a usb lol
Yeah, if you try to update it to Windows 11 you'll get the Blue Screen. It's gonna require a fresh install. Overall, I do prefer Win 11 personally. So, I would recommend it. Make sure to debloat after installation as well for improved performance and efficiency
@@OVERKILLGAMING786 thanks man, i prefer to carry and extra micro SD than partitioning the one with window install....for ever subscribed to this channel 🔥🚀
Can I use my SD card that I've been using with my steamdeck that has my games on etc or do I need to use a new empty SD card? Will I loose all of these contents etc?
When you install Windows on the SD Card it will format the card and everything will be erased. If you would like to keep all of the games that you have on the card I would recommend using a separate SD card for Windows or you can parition the SD card into NTFS/EXT4 and have Windows installed on the NTFS partition and your games will remain on the EXT4 partition. You will need to decide on the size of both partitions if you choose this route and this can be done using the KDE partition manager in the SteamOS Desktop Mode.
I’ve been trying to get Fortnite to work on my steam deck but Easy Anti-Cheat keeps getting tripped by something. I thought it might have something to do with Handheld Companion or SWICD (I’ve tried both) but I can’t find anyone else having this issue. Would you have any idea what it could be? I don’t use any cheats or a VPN.
I have never experienced any issues with Easy Anticheat while using SWICD or Handheld Companion. However, I would test this to see if it is being triggered by either by disabling both and playing with a physical controller attached if you have one available. If the error does not appear with them disabled then it is possible that they could be causing the issue. If so, I would report this to the HC dev team on their Discord. They are really good at responding and looking into issues.
@@OVERKILLGAMING786 I primally use Mouse and Keyboard on my main pc so my only controller is wired. It would probably be worth it to get a usb hub anyways because I don’t want this device I’ve been putting money into to just collect dust.
@@OVERKILLGAMING786 I’m also worried I’ll get permanently banned for continuing to try and play. I would be absolutely devastated if I lost everything I’ve gotten for the past almost 6 years.

All you have to do is put the controller into pairing mode, go into your bluetooth settings and pair it. Then go into Handheld Companion and select which controller you want to use. Not the emulated controller at the top but other hardware controller just below that.
Yes. Here is my video on how to create your own overlays ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kkSWkBsA-e0.html. You can add what you want and leave out what you don't want. You can also just use Afterburner and only have FPS enabled if you like.
Please kindly define what you mean by 'quickly', as I have been dual booting for about a year now with the same SD card. It may depend on the SD card. I am using the Sandisk Extreme SD A2 V30 card. Works like a champ and performance has been stellar.
It depends on the sd card. One can try to find test of how many write/erase cycles cards can handle. And compare it to data of how many times windows does it. The quick search shows that there is a big range 1000 to 10000 write cycles. Assuming that newer more expensive cards are at the higher end of this range, while there will be wear and tear I do not think it will be super quick. A few years ago I run OS from an old, cheap (low quality) usb stick and it worked fine for like half a year, later I formatted the usb stick and was still using it till it died 2 years later. I believe modern sd cards can do better than that.
I have a question for everyone, am I the only person that Valve and Microsoft keep turning on a second virtual controller for on their console with me doing nothing to even have it happen? Every few weeks, I second controller appears to activate looking directly left forever, after digging and digging I find the source and it's connected to valve or Microsoft and I decide to mute the program cuz if I delete it, it will return, But the joke here is after I shut down that program a few weeks later a brand new program connected to valve and Microsoft appear that is entirely different called something brand new, I'm trying to figure out if anyone is having this issue and how they solve this issue every single time
I have encountered this issue two solid times already, and it's angry me because even refreshing the console back a few weeks before they should began doesn't solve it, The only way to solve it is to pinpoint the device in device manager and it's always a brand new location name something brand new, I don't know if it's steam updating there Big picture mode that creates this entirely new program but it's getting on my nerves to know the second player is forever looking left and cannot be fixed without digging and digging
@@OVERKILLGAMING786 I digged further into it, it happens to every game no matter if it's on steam or not, when I find the issue it's always saying it's connected to steam or Microsoft, But after I decide to remove the issue a few months later it happens again with an entirely different name but still leads to either Microsoft or Valve ):
