It supported multitasking, usb otg etc, way before Android comes into picture. All trending applications and games (I remember playing Asphalt multiplayer ) were supported in Symbian

The thing to remember there, is Android runs on TONS of phones. Samsung/Pixel flagship $1,500 + phones down to the emerging market low cost $20 phones. iOS ONLY runs on Apple devices. If you run this video for just the US or US + Europe you will see its closer to 50/50 once Android took off. Keep in mind also iOS 2007 - Q3 2011 was significantly slowed down by the fact iPhones were only available on AT&T in the US. Q3 2011 is when the iPhone (i think it was the 4S) came to Verizion which is why there is a large jump there. Another shortly after when T-Mobile and Sprint got it.

If all the Chinese phones decide to drop Android and use their own OS, you would probably see a huge dip. It slows older models if the battery has gone bad in order for it to not shut down at 19-20%, like it happened with my S7 after one and a half year of usage... Besides that, the 'slowdown' is not noticeable at all and you can disable it in the settings if you don't want it.

The original Android was built for a QWERTY keyboard phones. Just like BB phones. When Apple introduced the first iPhone inJanuary 2007, Steve Jobs invited his friend from Google /owns Android/ Eric Schmidt. Eric realized that their Android phone OS wont work against the iPhone OS so they had to restart the whole project. Thats why Andoid 1.0 came years after the iPhone OS 1.0. Android OS in 2010 looked like the iPhone OS, as Google decided to take many feature from iPhoneOS. so if you have a look on iPhone 3 and HTC Dream, you will see so many similarities. Those ideas such as pinch to zoom, swipe to unlock, scrolling, etc UI ideas came from the iPhone. Jobs and his team worked on the iPhone for over 2.5 years and Google could come out with a very similar looking OS within a year... Again, the Android beta looked completely different before the iPhone was introduced.. Thats why Jobs called it a `stolen product` and TBH he was right..

Plus KaiOS is meant for "featurephones" therefore low prices and popularity in certain regions. Personally really looking towards the Nokia 2720 flip - might get one to try out and see if it works out for me as I mainly use a PC and phone only is used as a MP3/youtube player and Whatsapp.

It may take really off if they'll open it for 3rd party devs.

Kai os is for people that that have limited options and not a lot of money. Really only the basics that are neccecary

I wouldn't say that "they keep trying", it's just when they release their phones the market share gets a slight boost but then comes down again, meanwhile there are android phones being released all year round so it doesn't really decline for them, but Apple has no reason to just stop releasing phones, they make crazy profits with them so from a business standpoint they are doing great even though they have little market share compared to the hundreds of companies that are using android on their devices

I too had a windows phone till late 2017, but it was a lower end one and since Microsoft had pretty much killed the system and my phone was getting unusable slow I decided to buy an android

Had an Lumia 435 the lowest spec device which officially supported Windows 10 mobile. Started to boot loop and just constant crashing and the lack of app support. Change to android at the end of 2018. Also looks like Windows 10 mobile has two more months until support is fully dropped.
