This is a review of the new IFS Bondtech Extruder with built-in filament sensor (upgrade package) for the Prusa Mini 3D printer (non-sponsored review).
if you don't want to use a sensor, don't have one, or just want to see how to remove the original Prusa extruder then watch this instead • Bondtech Prusa Mini Ex...
Bondtech HEATBREAK video here • Prusa Mini Fit Bondtec...
This is the edited review version, as i originally thought sensor parts were included in the full kit.
THE 'FULL' KIT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE MAGNETS, SENSOR CIRCUIT BOARD/CABLE OR BALL BEARING from the Prusa Mini official filament sensor
So in short, for both the upgrade and full versions you will need to buy and cannibalise a Prusa Mini filament sensor or buy individual sensor parts

Note: ESTEPS need to be added.
Either place into a text file (e.g. Notepad) these steps on a usb stick, and run as a print for 10 seconds on each power up (this should ensure new loading of filament works correctly)...

or place it between these lines in the slicer start G code box (thats the M92 E415; Set estep) ..

Colin; thank you for the very great tutorial, much better than the official Bondtech one, saved me a lot of frustration, I really liked how you tucked away the power cord !

Hello, a question with the steps of the extruder, you have to modify them or it is not necessary ???

And is the printer quieter? I would buy it because of the noise.
@colinhill

@@Scheuerman407 there is also a separate unboxing video in my channel
@colinhill
@colinhill 2 года назад
@@Scheuerman407 yes definitely. Although the mini is pretty quiet in the first place. The enclosure helps with fan noise. Also keeps kids and pets away and generally keeps it neat and tidy.

You put links for the enclosure, which the video isn't about, but no links for the extruder, which the video is about. I seriously question your reasoning.
@colinhill
@colinhill Год назад
Perhaps because it's easy to Google Bondtech. However many people have no idea the manufacturer of the enclosure and I get lots of questions asking who makes it. And they have two links depending on your country. So that's my reasoning!

I have the same bondtech upgrade kit as you, tell me did you try to print on 4.3.4 software? what software do you use i can't come to good quality prints after changes i have very uneven extraction.
@colinhill

i am currently on 4.3.1 so i will upgarde to 4.3.4 and see what happens when i make my next print - and report back in this thread.

Did you change the Settings again in the Start code?
@colinhill
@colinhill 2 года назад
@@breedlord1991 I don't think the quality is very different, but currently its not printing as good as i want. Just need the time to see if i can tweak the settings to get as good a result as mk3s. if i can improve it, i will update with what i did.

how did you set up your prusa mini with bondtech extruder with thte new 4.3.4 firmware update? i have horrible clicking and grinding when i try and change and extrude filament. ive been trying to fix it for months now.
@colinhill
@colinhill 2 года назад
Sounds like hot end issue. Have you tried raising the heartbreak. There are videos about doing it. Basically undo the 3 grub screws, pus up then retighten. But must be done when hot! Or your PTFE tube may need replacing or you have a clog
@joshjakus3121
@joshjakus3121 2 года назад
@@colinhill its not the hotend because i dont even have filament loaded into it its at the extruder itself.
@joshjakus3121
@joshjakus3121 2 года назад
@@colinhill is it possible you can just share what you did for yours after the update?
@colinhill
@colinhill 2 года назад
@@joshjakus3121 The software update has made no change in the way the extruder works, i dont really notice any difference. I can only suggest stripping down the extruder to check that the bearings/gears are in the correct place, no plastic bits are inside the extruder, and that the filament sensor is correctly constructed. In my case you have seen how i built it. may not be the best advice but if you are getting those noises without filament then something is rubbing. Also probably not a good idea for the extruder to be empty as the top and bottom gears will be rubbing. Does it make the same noise when filament is loaded?

Cut zip ties with a flush cutter. Just a good practice unless you like getting sliced open for no reason.
