Kelly, what is so appealing about your faith is that it so effortlessly just flows out of your heart, without being forced or phony or condescending. That it's rock solid and unwavering even during your tragic ordeal is an evidence to a greater power than your own. Sadly, many hiking vlogs lack this dimension. Yours is like a burst of sunlight though a window that has been darkened far too long. Love the way you "Let your light shine before others..." without blinding them in the process.

good plan for continuing., now when u go out it will be warm. this is a bonus. 3 lbs is way to heavy for that. recognize. pack 2lbs, cook 1lb, food 5 lbs, bag, hammock, or tent tarp, pad.4 lbs light and batteries, 1.5 lbs. socks and jacket ,sleep clothes 2.5 lbs. , camp shoe 1 lb. water 2 lb per liter 4 lbs. 21 lbs. nonscense stuff booze beer u know. 2 to 3 lbs. 24 lbs no more.whatever is making up 10 lbs get rid of it. u will fly threw the trail. i bought a scout tent from walmart, 2lbs sprayed it with silicon lasted whole trail. sprayed it half way threw again to be sure. 30 degree bag, synthetic 20 for tent 25 for bag. pad pool float lol 5 dollars. lol no shit. bag 50 dollars owned it for 10 years took that long to use it. the tent was 2 lbs, bag 1.75 lbs slept on top of it threw spring and summer. pad .75 lbs. the rest all the same. lite means less food more miles faster movement to next resupply. no more then 25 lbs girl. got it. especially if u leave in three to 4 weeks. good luck. ra ra ra

I have read that many folks start off with too much stuff, then as they walk they ask themselves, "do I really need this?" "Can I make this d*m pack lighter?" and start mailing stuff home. If you take some warmup hikes you can avoid this, but even so, you are likely to do this. Of course having warmer gear for the first month is reasonable, and mail it home, then if you are still on the trail come late season, have your home support team mail it back to you.

@tjay4727 3 года назад
@@garyp.7501 exactly. food shelter water. temp consideration. at night your in your bag . naked or shorts best makes bag work efficiently. out to pee. if cooking before bed or settling in. your looking at 55 degrees. a basement. difference is u hike every day. your hemoglobin is high. when i cam home. the air was on 60 and i was sweating to death. u can not get cool. because u adapt to being chill out there. your red blood cells are threw the roof/ so u cant compare to being home. u might shiver a bit to begin with but it goes away . mostly a wind breaker and no more then a fleece and breaker in shorts. a trick is. cut nylon legs off and slide them over legs. very lite. if not use zip off pants. in summer though never needed them. if more clothes needed. hello hiker box, or hostel or goodwill. buy something for 3 dollars. i swam in streams in early spring and bathed. water filter. was bandana and 2 drops of bleach. lite is rite. much more luxury then luxury items. everyone stinks. the less u bath the more oils that come back to your skin. the less u itch the less skin issues u have. u shower and stink 2 hours later. bleachwas good for wiping down pad cleaning pot bottom of tent. less is more. ultra lite to me is under 25 lbs. and still all u need. winter different but late spring summer and early fall u make time. longest days and best weather. dee dee time. the beauty u start with 35 lbs. u weigh 150 say. u in 3 weeks lose 15 lbs your 135 leaving u a 25 lb pack. get it. now when u knock 10 lbs off that and lose 5 more lbs your only carrying 10 lbs more then when u start so its like carrying nothing at all. lol. at that is as they what it is. the chick can not hold the smoke thats what it is. breakfast club. had to.

Wow, Kelly, I am late to the party here. I found your channel and subscribed after all of the positive things that Megan Boggs, a/k/a Happy Thoughts, had to say about you. Suffice it to say, I am so thankful, as are all these other subscribers here, that you have made it through this life-altering event while beginning your through hike. And I am looking so forward to following you through until the end. But what most impresses me and gives me joy is your testimony. Thank you so much for being such a witness for your faith in Christ and giving Him the praise for getting you through all of this. I'm an "old guy" when it comes to hiking and it gives me such hope and confidence for our future to see the next generation be so bold in their faith. Keep the faith and I will continue to pray for you. If our paths ever cross, I can assure you, you will know quickly how I got the trail name "Preacher." God bless.

I’m thru hiking this year also (trail name Caveman). Started about a week after you. Met some of your tramily along the way including Two-Pack, Mighty Mouse, All-Star, Strawberry Lightning. I have a lot of respect for your plan to continue. Most would defer a year. I would suggest the trail name “Persistence”. My wife had the same medical issue and it took her 6 weeks to get back to being active. Much respect.

Morning Kelly! Great shirt! I love how you support the greatest band in all the land! We gotta spread the love! Anyone that is looking for a great show to listen to I highly recommend 5/9/77. I think its better than Cornell but to think that some of the best music ever played were back to back days is just amazing! I am so glad you are being you, staying centered and focused, and taking care of things in your own way in your own time. It is not easy to do sometimes. It is amazing that you are finding confidence in your gear. It is something that needs to be found not bought, and to me is absolutely critical. Thank you for your PSA on going to the doctor. It is so important to get checked out yearly, and not just because you are going to be on a hike for 6+ months! I waited for years to go and it almost turned out very bad. Man I can't wait to see you and the trail back together again ❤️Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful

Kelly it makes me very happy to know that you will soon be back on trail. I believe you are smart to join your tramily and continue from that point and finish the missed sections of trail later. It is my hope that your journey from this point forward is free of any calamities, and you can complete the trail worry free. I am looking forward to seeing cranking out the miles but don't over do it, take care Kelly and be safe.

I am impressed how you managed to walk yourself out, even if you haven´t had to carry your bag. One of my cysts rupturted about two weeks ago. For the first few hours I was still able to walk myself from my bed to the bathroom and back (at that point I still thought I caught a very bad stomach bug). Later the day I wasn´t even able to move out of my bed at the ER all. They had to move me from the bed to the surgery table because I wasn´t able to do it myself.

That experience could have been tragic but, you got by with a little help from your friends. Near death can teach you about the reality of life. I went through a near death at age 26, it changed me for the better, I'm 69 now and look back on it as one of the big milestones of my life. You will do well. I think that most hikers will be happier when they move to rural areas. A very good video. Good Luck, Rick

Thank God you are healthy and everything worked out. I am going to suggest you continue to hike where you got off. Reason is your group is now far more stronger more able than when you were with them. You need a week or two to gain some trail legs. It would be a tragedy for your group to leave you in the dust! Or for them to holdback on mile while you get stronger. After a week or two jump forward to be with them. Remember you are physically back at ground zero. Your group will tell you the trail is much easier, but itis not, they are just much stronger. Happy trails Phoenix!

Base weight for a frameless should not be above 8lbs or so. Total weight 25lbs max but below 20lbs generally. This is pretty widespread and accepted knowledge in the thru hiking community. Yes your pack can carry a heavier load but for the vast majority of people a minimal frame is worth it to avoid aches. My frame weighs less than two ounces and my BW is around 11lbs. Glad it works for you though and congrats on your new quilt
