In this special segment regarding Taryl's Bolens Ridemaster. Taryl goes over some different reverse discs he had made courtesy of Rochester Clutch & Brake Co. and machined by Taryl's friend Farmer Dan. Which ones work the best? Taryl will show you the advantages and disadvantages of each one and what one he plans to use on his Ridemaster. If interested you can have your own reverse discs made like Taryl did, but you'll have to find someone to machine them like he did as well. We included a link for the materials used in this video. Now There's Your Dinner!!

I'd like to see a 'speriment with the tires switched left to right to see if they grip any better one way verses the other. Also, if the Reverse clutch is grippy enough,....will it back up a hill that it can't drive up forward?

We used to call these tractors “one eyed Buffalo” when I was in the Army. They were a variation of this tractor and had one headlight mounted on the front. Poorer families had these hooked to trailers and were all they had for transportation (rain, snow, or shine). From your number one fan in Skunk Hollow, Arkansas!

Food for thought. That yellow woven material can run in oil and not disintegrate where the green and black ones would not last in an environment like being near a leaky old wisconsin engine lol
@edw.4958
@edw.4958 3 года назад
I think they used brass so it would wear out instead of the steel on your upper pulley. May be best to go back to brass or another sacrificial material that works as well.
@Wayoutthere
@Wayoutthere 3 года назад
Uuuh...friction disk material is softer then steel, AND the brass... Otherwise you'd need new brake disks after a few weeks in your car or engine clutch.

I notice that Bolens GTX or something back there...they were nice. I ran a troybilt gtx 20, I think was the same thing. Garden Way. Power steering, twin disc brakes, foot shuttle control for the hydro, 60" deck, hydraulic lift, 3pt hitch optional, Kroler command 20hp never ran out of power. Fatal flaw: leaky on hydro fluid. I kept it full, but the guy who did the job after me never checked oil in anything his whole life and blew it up in a year...and then the garden way went under, I wasn't involved but I heard they couldn't rebuild the transmission because parts weren't available anymore. That was probably about '98 or '99.

You're not going to know how good the friction materials are until you mount an implement and load it down. If you're just hauling your butt around, it won't matter. So pick the quieter and the smoother engaging material will do.
