Hey, guys! In this video, I go over the design, installation, and benefits of this new catch-can setup I just installed on my truck. This catch-can completely revitalized my truck and solved several issues I was having!
Because of how well this has worked, I'd like to design, fabricate, and sell my own catch-can setup for all Duramax engines. If you're interested in that, please email me at: Jay.LB7.Russell@gmail.com.

Great video. It surprises me that not many people understand how the lb7 duramax engines were set up from the factory and also the fact that no one sells a kit just for these.

I've seen a few companies make a drain port plate for the side of the front cover that would work slick for that setup. I like the concept. Great job!

I just watched this video this morning & have been watching all your videos these past couple of years as I myself have had my ‘02 GMC Duramax LB-7 for 20 years now , and have done the Full Banks 6-gun tuner with optional speed loader , a Hog industry 4” full stainless exhaust from down pipe back , an S&B intake , Banks Big Head waste gate, and an Air Dog 4-G 100 gph lift pump system . Since I had the luxury of driving a company service truck for close to 15 of the 20 years I’ve owned my GMC , it only has 138,000 miles or so on it ( I know , barely broken in 😆). And has had a pretty good life so far with only 2 water pumps , and unfortunately 2 sets of injectors now ( first set covered under warranty waaaay back shortly after I bought truck used from first owner ) and just about 2 years back now with 2nd set having to be covered out of my own pocket . The Airdog went on truck the 2nd week after shelling out the coin for 8 new injectors & 8 new glow plugs at same time ( figured truck was down so why not ??!!) and figured the Airdog should get me at least double the injector life now as long as I keep an eye on filter changes . Anyway long story short here I just wanted to say “ Thanks for all you post & share & if you do decide to market a kit like what you put together here for a decent price then post another video with information on how to obtain one . My rig currently is very clean on underside by breather tube and has little to no blow by at filler neck even though we towed a 30’ Toy Hauler out to deserts & up into Sierra Nevada mountains for many years from here in San Diego area . My LB-7 has been a great truck & I cannot imagine buying a new one at the ridiculously high prices the new ones are now being advertised at . My truck has consistently gotten 15-17 mpg with mixed driving and out on open freeway at 70 mph can get upwards of 22-23 mpg IF I can keep boost monitored at or below 5-8 psi . I also monitor EGT’s & boost with mechanical gauges as well as an Edge CTS-3 for safekeeping. Great trucks , and really enjoy seeing all you’ve done with yours . Stay safe , & please keep your informative and greatly appreciated videos Coming Jay . And as you like to say “ If it’s Smokin’, it’s Broken”!! 😎👍

Thank you, Stephen! I'm glad to hear your truck is healthy and doing well. I just recently put an S&S Diesel Motorsport SuperSport CP3 and WCFab Y-Bridge in my truck, and I've been in the process of tuning it to work with the Banks Power EconoMind. I'm not done with it yet, but the results are staggering so far! I'm hoping to release a video on it soon. As far as the catch can, I've done a little work on designing my own specifically for these trucks, but I have no idea when I'll be able to get it done and be able to produce a kit. However, if you're not having oil accumulation at the breather, I don't think you need a catch can. Thank you for watching and for commenting! Please let me know if you have any questions about my truck and what I've done to it. -Jay

So I have a question for I have a 2002 LB7 it over heat only when I'm pulling toy hauler it get hot I have all ready change radiator to a bigger and replace the fan clutch transmission cooler to a bigger one and it still gets hot I don't have cold air intake yet would you have any idea where to go next thanks

I don't have a ton of experience on the cooling system of these trucks, because mine has never come close to overheating. However, have you checked to see if your intercooler and AC condenser are clean and free of debris? Sometimes they can get clogged up and not let enough air get to the radiator.

Just an idea since you mentioned you're interested in making your own. What's your thoughts on making a catch can kit mount where the factory fuel filter goes? For those of us that bought a lift pump and routed it straight to the CP3 & no longer need the factory fuel filter housing there.

@JayRussellDuramax 2 года назад
That's an interesting thought! I'll have to see what mounting locations are available. I'm not sure if/when I'll be able to make my own, but I'll reply to this comment if I'm able to move towards that. Thank you for watching and for commenting! Please let me know if you have any questions about what I've done to my truck, or if you have more great suggestions like this!

Good video I like the content. I would just vent to atmosphere and be done this makes it complicated. To each his own!!
@JayRussellDuramax
@JayRussellDuramax 2 года назад
Fair enough! The atmospheric vent can get messy and inefficient, though. That's the issue I was having, and this is the solution for it. Thank you for watching and for commenting!

@@JayRussellDuramax does your truck have blow by?
@JayRussellDuramax
@JayRussellDuramax 2 года назад
@@evanch123456 I mean, all engines have blow-by. My engine makes a LOT more power than factory, so, naturally, the factory PCV system isn't enough to keep up with the extra crankcase pressure. Mine was already routed to atmosphere from the factory, and all it did was make a mess. The newer trucks just route the gases to the turbo inlet and don't even separate out the oil vapor. That creates a big problem when you add more power, because the extra crankcase pressure brings more oil vapor with it, and you don't want that going through your turbo. On those trucks, it's very common to reroute the PCV to atmosphere and have it dump the oil behind the transmission to avoid the mess I was dealing with. A kit like this could really help with the newer trucks!

Can you make me one for a LLY 2005
@davidtrenkle6083
@davidtrenkle6083 Год назад
I would buy one. Do you think I need it if I am running stock boost?
@JayRussellDuramax
@JayRussellDuramax Год назад
Based on what I've seen, oil vapor in crankcase gasses is present on every engine - no matter the power level; it's just the reality of piston rings not being a perfect seal. In this specific application, it really depends on which Duramax variant you have and if you're noticing any issues. So, which engine do you have? Thank you for your interest, for watching the video, and for commenting! I really appreciate it.

Hey sir at what time was your can purchased ? If i buy one of these catch cans today will it come with the new baffle insert ?
@JayRussellDuramax
@JayRussellDuramax Год назад
I bought my can around May of last year. The baffle and fittings aren't included when you buy it from Vibrant. Also, to be 100% clear, everything you see in this video is heavily modified by me. I did a LOT of cutting and welding on my can and baffle to make it work like this. So, when I'm talking about selling these kits, I'm meaning the version that I've modified. Please let me know if you have more questions. Thank you for watching and for commenting!
