I love your channel. I'm a female homeowner also who does tons of DIY by myself. Looks like you are in similar climate as me too (Ontario) 😊 My Mom & I especially loved your skunk exclusion video. She came over and helped me use a variation of your technique around my entire backyard wood fence! (We didn't dig down BC there was so much to do. Was able to fold the wire mesh and secure with staple gun to the wood, and landscape pins into the ground. Luckily, all hidden by a mature cedar hedge. And 2 years later, no more skunks sneaking in to spray my poor dog! Thank you! ❤
Yes, it was trash! It may be hard to see on video the 45 degree angle allowing for airflow from the bottom and flaps didn’t move. I was able to tell the difference of air quality in the home this same day with a much better updated unit. The original was a very poor design, you’re right for sure!
I don't think it's likely to be a meaningful issue in this specific case, but caution on caulking the bottom of just about anything attached to a house's exterior: -if- when water leaks inside, it needs a path to escape. In this case, a bit of water might get trapped between the vent and PVC siding, but as these are plastic neither will rot, which is why it probably isn't as much of a concern in this case. That said, no reason to not let that water out when possible. :) An exception is the home's air barrier, which for many newer homes is the house wrap (and there is no real air barrier in many older homes).
My question is how did you connect the aluminum pipe inside the house? Were you able to access it inside to make sure the two pipes were secure and taped with aluminum tape! That bead of caulking seemed a bit much.
It is not the dryer vent output. It is the external air intake to go into the furnace. There is a separate vent that blows out. This sucks fresh air in. Hope that clarifies.
