I hesitated looking into Proton-GE despite hearing about it, because I thought it would be a long install path or updating the root of the OS -- but didn't realize it was this simple, did it in literally two minutes.

Thanks for this, after this my Forza Horizon 5 doesn’t crash randomly anymore ! It would crash in free mode and now I’m even doing races and it’s a little smoother too! Also i now understand why it wasn’t working perfectly because it’s a windows based games and makes sense
For anyone looking at this in 2024 follow the steps in this video. But if you're having trouble still, do the following. When in desktop mode, close steam, otherwise (for me at least) PrtonUp-QT doesn't give the option to select a version when you try and add a new one. And as of Mar 28th, posting this. DO NOT CHOSE the latest option. GE-Proton9-2 It SAYS that there's an "Active Download" top right but nothing actually happens. But when you go to the prior version of GE-Proton9-1 instead and you'll find an actual progress bar appears at the bottom of the window. When finished it should then show in the "Installed Compatibility tools" area. ProtonUP-QT also has the option bottom right, to "Show Game List" and choose which version of proton you'd like to select for which game.
I just got a new OLED deck last weekend and I was having trouble with Call of Cthulhu giving me a test screen image during the introduction and cut scenes. Installed Proton GE and everything works great!
Great in-depth tutorial and explanation of proton GE. So whenever there is a new version, basically, we have to go through desktop mode again and download the latest version?
I hope this helps me play 'Bully: Scholarship Edition'. When the game loads it's drowned out by an awful cackling sound that makes it unplayable. It's the only game in my library that doesn't work 😞

@@kovusensei you don’t need to install the latest version if everything is working fine. You can check the GitHub page for the latest release, I don’t believe there is a way to get notification. Usually each release will contain fixes for certain games so you can check the release notes to see if it’s worth downloading. I usually check back everyone and again, or other YT channels such as gaming on Linux post about it and I get alerted that way
Sounds like you may not have installed it correctly. Try again, and make sure that ‘install for’ has steam selected. See 2:29 for reference. Good luck!
Not ever game will work. Did you check over at proton db website? For each game you can find out which version (if any) works best. Some games need additional run commands to boot
Proton and Proton GE wont get Anarchy Online running. And its one of those old MMO's I really want to get working. I tried installing ProtonTricks but that shit don't really work either. Its confusing to use as well. I tried using launch options with protontricks but that didn't work either... AO has to patch first before you can actually play it. Technically it will boot the games launcher first, patch game, then after fully patched you will have to hit play from launcher.... I tried following the AO official guide for steamdeck but that doesn't work either.... I get errors. And the launcher never opens. And I of course have no idea how to use wine.
I don’t unfortunately. Which game in the trilogy are you having issues with? Others may be able to help. I’d also suggest checking over at protonDB website to see what other settings people are using
Wonder if this would solve my issues with dead or alive 5 white screen but sometimes will boot into the game but with a weird white boarder around the frame.
Did you sort this? I’m assuming you tired restarting the deck and also checked to make sure that it had actually downloaded proton properly? You may want to try downloading another version too
Could this fix netcode issues for games? I have been trying to play Halo MCC with my friend. I have a gaming PC and he has a Steam Deck. The game was working until we started to desync
Proton isn’t working for me. I’ve tried on multiple different games and they all refuse to launch with proton selected. I’ve tried over 20 different versions of proton as well that have all been working for other people on that specific game. Could I somehow have a faulty device? Could I request an RMA from Valve for this?
It won’t be a hardware issue. You probably need to do a factory reset. Also make sure you are on the stable of steamOS, and if you haven’t tried yet, so a full system reboot
Would proton GE work for farming simulator 22? I’m getting a steam deck in a few weeks and I want so badly to play farming simulator 22 but it’s not even on the playable list and I’m worried about that

Okay... But now the game i applied this to doesnt launch at all and the option to unselect the force a compatibility tool for ProtonGE is greyed out... So now im fucked...
It doesn't update automatically. You use the app to download new releases, and also delete old versions. If you'll want to delete an old version though, you first need to make sure no-games are using it. You can easily manage this in the app though, and it makes it really easy.
Hi, I watched your video because I was interested in downloading Proton qt, Although I followed the steps in your video, and for some reason the app doesn’t launch and sends me back where it says play. I need help launching the app please!

@@steamdeckguyBefore I downloaded Proton qt, I downloaded first a other app called Heroic Launcher, and that app I can almost any game that I have except “Ghostwire: Tokyo” for some reason. The game opens up and prompts me to the menu, but if I press play it’s just a black screen with some background noise from the game. As you can tell I am very new at this, so I don’t know what I’m doing sorry for the long paragraphs!
