Lol you should've heard the old tomos horns back in the day, they really sounded like a dying duck. It's been so long but as a biker I'll always have a soft spot for a tomos. They helped get me started when I was a kid.
Same here! They were popular in my highschool town and I had several targa lx's over a couple years.. late 90s and early 2000s ones. they were never reliable but always tons of fun. I'd totally forgotten about the horn though!
Quick tip. That arrow that you flip to "open the gasline" is actually your reserve. Once you 'run out of gas' flip it and you have enough gas to get to a can or station.
I'm from Slovenia where this moped was made too bad they're not made anymore because when you were 14 you got a moped Tomos moped and you are free to visit next villages meat girls there symbol of freedom 2go next door where the girls are sweeter and I still got my Tomos moped youngster
It was definitely a symbol of freedom for me here in the US. At age 16 you can get a drivers permit but you still need an adult in the car. But if you get one of these you can drive on your own at age 16. That's why I bought it, and it was an amazing first vehicle that really gave me a lot of freedom I didn't have before
+Foisy nice to hear when we were in 8th grade almost all boys had moped girls loved us have a nice day greetings from Slovenia country of TOMOS hehehehe
Matej Pecnik i got my 1983 tomos flexer 3 months ago love it even though it's worn down and rusty and pulls great and drives better than most new mopeds 😃
Sweet vid, I've got a '13 Tomos Sprint moped & it was a blast to ride. I use to have the BiTurbo but it fell apart so now I'm rockin the Tecno bullet which is the cheapest performance pipe you can buy. When I still rode mine the MLM & weak-ends pipe was the best performance exhaust to buy at the time. I wanted to modify and trick mine out like you did but I've since moved on to a bigger bike. Enjoy your Tomos and ride safe brother. oh, I also wanted to ask if you're on MopedArmy?
Looks cool man. I would only suggest a bigger headlamp since this looks miniscule and maybe a small visor if it suits your taste. Also you can clearly hear the big end ringing sound. Hope you have the bearing changed by now.
and that replacement speedo cable lasted...15 miles? That's typical for a modded Tomos. The cables just weren't made to spin that fast. 30MPH is about what they are good for. Any faster than that and the speedo cables get stressed and break.
ima give you a word of advise. Don't use the oil tank they go bad pretty frequently and you will have to replace them a lot. What I do is mix the gas 40/1 with 2-cycle oil. And how the hell can ur battery withhold running the bike and the LED lights. Mine won't even hold a charge (getting replaced soon)
Hey, I really like your bike. I was wondering how much you paid for it when you got it. Also would it be wise to buy a $900 2011 streetmate r off of Craigslist? It looks really good and has no listed problems. Thanks for a great video.
Really takes me back, I had a Targa lx when I was a kid, bored the bastard out to an 80cc lol I bet that thing went close to 65mph. I remember I had the bi turbo pipe as well, and the horn always sucked lol don't forget it's still just a moped
@BSABD315 from what I remember it was an 80cc kit, bi- turbo exhaust, jet kit, with a uni filter. It really probably hit 60mph or 65 going down a hill on a cool day.
Hey. I just got the same bike and I live in New Jersey. 1 tip I have is, be careful with the big bore motor kit because it usually causes the a55 motors to blow up (my friend had this issue)
well, incase you didn't know, they went out of business in 2012 so there aren't many new ones. but you can search craigslist. there might be one on there that you like or there might not be. its all about timing really. the "one" will show up eventually.
I can buy one here ( in belgium ) for 150€ ( i think that's about 170$ ) but it doesn't have any papers however all the keys are there ( 2 keys ) and i could go to the police and say i lost the papers and get new pnes ( that's an option here ) so what do you think? A do or don't? By the way i subbed :)
Well yeah that's my biggest fear but i could also be that the seller want 1500 but only could put 150, i'll have to send an email to confirm that! But if it comes with 2 keys would you really think it's stolen?
hey man what part of MA you from? and love the bike and idk if you got new sprockets but im running 26 front and 22 in the rear and great torque and speed i get 40mph but my setup is a stock head, bi turbo exhast and del 15.15 carb
I have a stock Tomos LX I'm thinking the same thing about. I'd like to do like 40-45 so i can ride with traffic. How did the 70cc kit hold up? I've heard mixed things about their reliability....
I have a LX also, I've heard mixed reviews about having the 70cc on the LX (engine blowing up, etc.) if you did end up putting it on let me know. If you're hesitant about adding the 70cc start with a smaller sprocket in the back and work your way up to upgrading it to the 70cc.
I want to get my grandson started on two-wheeled motoring. Do you have or need a license to drive that on the road? At what age? Even though there are no pedals on the bike is it considered a moped still?
Hows it going I see your very familiar with Mopeds specifically Tomo Mopeds. I currently own the Tomo Racing TT the green and black one and its pretty slow goes max speeds about 30mph so was wondering how I can speed up this bike with your help and knowledge. Perhaps you could let me know what specific parts I may need to speed up this Moped to at least 47mph I live in the state of Illinois within the city of Chicago.
Hey idk if you will see this but, I just purchased a 49cc streetmate r. Everything is stock. I plan on getting a biturbo and 24 tooth rear sprocket, is that a good idea? Any other ideas to increase maximum speed without the big bore kit, thanks.
Shadow In The Sky I purchased it from a buddy of mine who had purchased it from A dealership online. I will add that I'm not all satisfied with my purchase and do not ride as much as I intended too. Hope this helped in some way.
Technically speaking it can't be qualified as a moped if it's over 50cc, at least in MA. With that being said, there's essentially no way for cops to actually identify the cc just by looking, and the Airsal upgrade doesn't say 70cc on it. It is technically illegal, although not many cops are going to be upset with a moped driver trying to get an extra 10 to 15 mph to keep up on the roads
45 mph to 50 mph. Yeah now that’s much better than just going 30 mph and sometimes its actually safer to go that fast but not every single situation. Yeah unfortunately one time I did ride a moped like this with a similar appearance and overtime it would turn out to be more trouble than it really would even end up being worth it considering I ended up had to get tire repairs 2-3 times and one time had a faulty break. During my junior year more often I drove a car which was a 1999 model Chevy suburban for my whole junior year and a little bit after along with some of my senior year before I switched over to a different SUV. I only rode that moped to school seven times throughout my junior year. Sometimes whenever I rode the thing I ended facing more dangers on this thing when I was traffic and on the street being limited to only 30 mph than I would if I had actually ridden an actually motorcycle which I never even have. I was in my junior year of high school of 2007-2008 when I lived back in california during the 4 years I went to high school and this during the years of 2007-2008 my junior year of high school back in Simi Valley. I rode one of those mopeds. It was a silver one and it was Tomos . If one’s moped was only gonna go 30 mph then why not just get an E bike that goes 28 MPH because they didn’t really have too many of those things back then in the year of 2007. They started becoming more prevalent around like the late 2010s. My situation with riding this type of moped was really more of a complication and trouble. It was both my father and I’s disastrous experiment as well as what was initially though of as a way to gain experience for driving a car. There really wasn’t any reason for me during that time to even be involved with a moped. I didn’t get hurt nor have any accident on the street with the moped but I can tell you this that that really wasn’t something that was meant to be a part of my life during a time I was in my junior year. Complicated history. Too much To even talk about. Here I am now a male 32 years of age with That moped ended up having to be taken out of service towards the end of my junior year May 2008. You’d be surprised with what you come across with each and every individual’s life from time to time because even after I wasn’t riding the moped anymore due to the motor and other components having complicated issues on the moped suffered some severe psychological issues after the fact both during my senior year and after graduating high school. My senior year August 2008-June 2009. It was my dad’s moped and he shared it with me on occasion but it really wasn’t worth too much of the trouble in the end. Gained unwanted interest in riding a motorcycle as a result of this. Something that should never have even been involved with a part of my life like this. Just a complicated past time period and exactly what it was in the was not a total waste of time nor totally unnecessary but more unnecessary and not meant to work well for me in the end. Yeah lots of unwanted and nasty problems for me. All not meant to work that way for my life’s circumstances.
@@BSABD315 we can talk about for sure later and let’s talk about sometime. Oh my you’d likely be quite surprised at what happened because it sure caused me a lot of severe mentality issues and problems with my thoughts from time to time, even at times driven me from the severity of the confusion like suicidally nuts. Yeah trust me it crossed paths with other problems in my life even if it didn’t have anything to do with another issue(s). Trust me.
@@BSABD315 so you understand a little heads up on the moped my mother donated that broken moped this year. It had become dysfunctional starting from the year of 2008 end of May. And that thing remained and sat there until this year somewhere finally My mom finally donated it.
@@BSABD315 no no wreck but it had problems with motor after the last ride in 2008 in May and it just became no longer in service. My dad had to take to key out of it because of problems it had
I actually just read some history on that recently. Although it may have taken me this long to respond to you as well as to discover this video my point I must emphasize here as I did read an old article about that just recently during this particular week.
They'd have to measure your bore and stroke and do math though to figure that out unless you actually tell them. You can hop a 50cc up to some insane speeds. The 50cc landspeed record is like 150mph or somthing. The chances of you ever getting pulled over on a moped is slim to none. The only time i ever have been it was for going to slow on a main road lol. 70cc kits are a non issue.
I wished I had known this video this many years ago and then I would’ve responded sooner. Nevertheless you are absolutely right about this point that you’ve just made. At that speed it would go beyond what would be classified as a moped. Now these days we have more electric bikes that we should be writing rather than using this thing. If one really wanted to have a moped and go 30 mph why even bother anymore these days because the class three non-motorcycle class E bike goes up to 28 mph. I’d say in a sense the ebike class 3 upgrade would be more on the safe side than having to ride one that can only be on the streets.
Sweet bike man! I have the same color model 08' get a good 40-45 with just sprockets and pipe. Safe riding! Just wanted to say Looking for riders in nj. Find me on mopedarmy "camrin609"
