It's those factory sights they use. There's a 1cm gap on both sides of the front sight from the dovetail. I'm 6'2"... With full extension it's still hard to shrink that floating gap. Upgrade is necessary for consistency. Aside from the sights, I'm kind of in love with this firearm. Nothing else I've tried can touch a canik for the price, Great guns overall.

Just ordered a TP9sfx two days ago in Tungsten Grey like yours in the video. Mine is coming with a Vortex Venom red dot sight. The only thing I plan on upgrading almost right away is the trigger. I've already heard the Canik TP9sfx triggers are very good, but I still want to upgrade mine to the Freedomsmith Fat Daddy trigger in red. I think a red trigger with the red dot Vortex Venom sight with the Tungsten Grey finish of the gun will look pretty damn awesome. Aside from that I'll keep the rest of the weapon stock for awhile. Eventually I'll upgrade some internals but I'm also a newbie so I don't know what all I should consider upgrading. This will be the first firearm I've ever owned. Can't wait to get out to the local range with it and to bring it camping in the Summer months.

The freedomsmith trigger actually increased trigger pull slightly. We have two TP9SFX pistols one with the new trigger a one still stock. When I took my concealed carry class there was the instructor and two other students besides myself. Neither the instructor or other students could fathom why I would make any changes to any gun, no matter that I explained that I had many guns for different reasons. It always came back the same to them ~ " What if you have to use it for self-defense? " . To them that was the only purpose possible I guess.

I like what you did over all to your pistol made a really nice race gun out of it and still looks good. For me all that is a bit to much. My first thing is to get four more 20 rounders, got to feed the beast. Canik offers night sights so that would be next. I like your mag weld device it adds to the weapons looks and its a great addition for faster mag reloads. I will get a hologram mini. Sometime later. There no competition in my future but very much like longer barrel pistols to give my 147gr HP more velocity and of course better accuracy. I go hunting and exploring alot in our wilderness so I am always armed with a long gun and pistol not really for four legged creatures.

Unfortunately I didn't film my install process, as it was my first time installing one of these triggers, so it would have sounded like I was making it up as I went. I did use this video, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OaWTXYCyQgM.html, by Galloway Precision as a guide. The only thing I did differently was to leave the fire control unit in place (the part they take out at the beginning). Instead, I disconnected the action bar from the trigger return spring in the fire control unit, and pulled the action bar out once it was disconnect from the trigger. Their process works though, for sure. You can use a roll of masking tape on its edge in place of the bench block and save yourself a few bucks. Those are in fact Talon grips, the rubberized texture variant. They're very straightforward to apply if you've got a hair dryer or heat gun handy.

@LongTermReviews
@LongTermReviews 4 года назад
Just went back and checked my confirmation email from Dawson Precision and I'm using the 0.375" tall front sight. You're right, the rear sight does recommend the .285 - .300. Two possible explanations are 1) the sights aren't being installed on a Glock, and maybe the Canik has different geometry between the barrel and top of the slide, and 2) my shots with the factory sights were impacting high, so it may be a fluke of me or my particular gun that required a higher front sight. I'm not a sight expert, so if there's any question in your mind I'd say buy the rear sight, adjust it to the middle of its range and shoot it with the factory front sight at 15 yards. Then take your target and a set of callipers and head to the sight calculator on Dawson Precision's website. It may take a little more time, but you'll know you're ordering the right front sight.

Are you able to send the slide in to someone who could maybe refinish it for you? I was hoping that would be a possibility. I'd love to be able to send mine in once it's looking a lil beat up like yours and have it sent back to me in maybe a different color all together. It would be badass if your slide matched the color of your trigger.

Made practically all same upgrades but curious why your reducing your guid rod spring rate? If your shooting in competition and recoil reduction and faster follow up shots is your goal, you should be increasing your guide rod spring rate. The lighter the guide rod spring is the faster your slide slams rearward causing “noodling”. Increasing the guide rod will create less barrel rise as it slows the slide and gives more of a straight rearward push. You have a great starting point with the tungsten guide rod but I believe you stated a 14# guide rod and shooting 115gr. Your sweet spot for fastest follow up shots should be around a 18#-22# guide rod. Best way to test it maybe get an 18, 20, & 22# and try some drills. Quick recession 3-5 shots with each spring rate and check your group size. You will find your groups shrink respectively. A shot timer helps. I did notice a slight difference with the springs but noticed more of a difference from highly polishing the seat, disconnecter, plunger and trigger bar as well as inside the trigger housing where sear & disconnector runs than I did with the springs. The biggest improvements to be made are with a 20# guide rod spring and sending the slide/barrel off to Magnaport to have the barrel Quadra ported. (About $100) The Quadra ports aren’t huge but certainly noticeable when shooting 115gr and makes for fast follow up shots. May not be as noticeable if your downloading to meet a low PF.

While you are correct in saying a heavier recoil spring results in a faster cyclic rate, it does add more spring tension on the slide's return forward. This ends up playing a huge factor when considering muzzle "bounce" as the slide slams forward. Most slides hang times, with varying spring tensions, are negligible as they happen during recoil. A softer slide coming home is much easier to maintain on target and more predictable following recoil. Nic has a great video about varying recoil spring weights: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w3UVLm2GajI.html&ab_channel=NicTaylor00

How can i buy a magwell for my Canik TP9SF Elite?
@LongTermReviews
@LongTermReviews 3 года назад
I believe Taylor Freelance did recently introduce a magwell for the TP9 elite variants. I don't have an Elite, so I can't confirm it works with your model, but it's worth looking into. I think it's the Elite Carry Magwell.

What about the grip? Is that grip tape or?? I like the look and I’m sure it’s comfortable
@LongTermReviews
@LongTermReviews 3 года назад
Yeah! They're Talon Grips. I'm not a big fan of sandpaper textures, so I'm running the rubber variant. They make a grittier texture as well if that's more your speed. I think I paid somewhere around $20 for them, and they do remove with very little residue if you ever need to take them off. I used a hair dryer to apply them, and they've been rock solid for me. I know I'll have to replace them eventually, but for the price of a box of ammo, I'm not going to sweat that.
@irocss85
@irocss85 3 года назад
I tried the talon rubber grips and to me it felt like slicker than stock. I went with and paper grips and love the feel. Not for carry gun. Cause it would not be comfy against your waist. But for a comp pistol Holy moly I love it.

Sure. I didn't track what I paid at the time, but current pricing for all upgrades shown, including the brass grip hardware and Talon grips and excluding shipping costs, is right around $500. The sights alone are over $100 for the set, and the current price for the brass backstrap and 3 baseplates from Taylor Freelance is around $200. I bought mine about 3 mo ago and the newer ones come with different springs in them to accommodate 115gr box ammo. I haven't had a problem shooting 115gr, but I mostly do shoot the 124gr. Only mod I have is the lighter plunger spring. The take-up is softer, and the wall becomes more pronounced. But the break and pull weight are not changed.
