Guessing that this is part of the R&D process of bringing Nick's own Moc Toes style to market? Excited about the possibility of ordering a pair of 1964 leather Moc Toes Manitos in the future!!
Exactly! Why would you do this, other than a reverse-engineering & research/development/improvement project? Okay, so the upper was kept. If I am that far in, I would CRAVE a full set of Nicks Boots. :) This, to me, is a FrankenBoot - which is an apt h/t to Halloween.
I watched this at .5 speed. It worked great because I was getting a little sick at normal speed with all fast action, but the 60fps upload makes it run like a regular video at half speed. Lovely boots, its fun to watch craftsmen at work.
If I could only afford a pair of Nicks boots that would be my dream come true, but my salary down here in Mexico sets me back about 13 years before I could even begin to look at a pair of these bad boys, dear lord you guys really do make the absolute best boots a man could possible ask for, may the lord bless you and your loved ones
If I'm not wrong you guys just re-built a pair of Moc Toes by another PNW Shoe Maker - and not only showcased their deficiencies but also your own strengths - very clever marketing and brand building
Holy shit those look great!!!!! I used to love the look of wedge soles, until I saw the vibram lugs you guys use, now I think EVERY pair of boots should have that sole. Amazing!
Good God, what an amazing video. The film quality, and production was simply superb. Truly enjoyed it. Boots were all class, btw. Anyway, thanks so much.
Did you get this pair of boots from a user on the Goodyear Welt subreddit? Dude wore through his sole, through the midsole, and into the welt? Im pretty sure I recognize the arrow pointing to the welt. Great video. Its always cool watching the excellent work you guys do. Im going to get me a pair of the wedge workers one of these years.
Nick's you should get vibram to make you luged soles that have a spacing in the lugs so your stitches are below them instead of on top of them. It would make your boots even stronger & remove the true need to screw it down for most users.
I'm commenting here because its your most recent video and will most likely be read. when you do your timelapse videos with audio, you can slow down the playback speed and hear exactly what your employees are saying while making the boots. Just a heads up in case you're not auditing the footage before editing it and uploading it.
@@Alex54321 nothing really important from what I listened to, and I don't plan on sitting through all of it. I slowed the video down to watch a specific detail and noticed.
I just wish it was easier to get nicks in the UK, it just seems impractical buying them while living here especially with sizing and shipping and repairs
I live in Denmark and I hope to get a pair soon. They have some sizing options that I think will make it 99% safe. Regarding repairs, all the complicated stuff has already been done. It will not be difficult to find a decent cobbler to do the repairs.
I wish there were shoes made with Nick's quality in mind. My knees are shot from 20 years of kneeling on the job and heavy boots just rip my knee ligaments to hell so I need lighter shoes but nothing light compares to Nick's. Or Whites or Wescos.
My question re how the "moc" toe is stitched is answered. What is the advantage of stitching a bunch of holes in the toe of your boots, is it supposed to make a roomier toe box, or is it just fashion? They do look nice, in fact they look real nice with the contrasting leathers, but I'll stick with my Travelers.
Wow love how thsoe turned out. I really like the two different colors on the upper with that black sole. Kinda hate that the end result was obscured be the next videos but that youtube for ya.
The "foot mold" or last, sometimes has a metal plate on the bottom of it, so when the nails are driven in, the point of the nail strikes the metal and the bends 90 degrees forming a loop which pulls all the bottom layers together and makes it so you never feel the nails. Check out the channel Rose Anvil, he has some good videos demonstrating how that works. It's pretty cool.
So I’m wondering if nicks would rebuild my old russel upland boots? Love my 7 pound (per pair) nicks boots but they’re too heavy for upland hunting and my wife would skin me if I dropped the coin on a whole new pair of handmades.
I have several pnw boots. For my job I require more flexibility which from what I have found... only comes from something like thorogoods. Otherwise I get serious bite.
How heavy are they? Looks rather heavy to me, but ok, this is not for office use I guess. I want a pair of soles like this on my 1907 Red Wings. A hefty boot, with white leisure soles, not suitable for the forest.
The look is just incredible so l don’t want to take anything away from that achievement but what is the price difference between doing this and just buying new boots ?
As a Minnesotan that has worn through a lot of moc toe stitching I'm very intrigued. If you guys ever start stocking artisan and limited batch leathers every other boot maker should start shaking in theirs.
Is the moc toe just for looks? I guess I just don’t see the point in poking all those holes in your boot if you don’t have to. Does it serve a purpose? Not trying to rain on anyone parade just curious.
The front of the right boot looks crooked @18:07. The right side of the toe area is higher than the left side; this isn't the case for the left boot. What happened?
You watched this right before closing time when they was yelling last call for alcohol !🍸 Same way I felt lasnight after the Riggle Beagle checking out my ladies breast ! I want my money back !! ..
Can you make a video on loose/popped stitching? I have a few spots of loose stitching but the rest of the boot is not worn enough to send them in for a rebuild and my second pair is not here yet.
@@nicksboots Thanks for letting me know! I would have to eat the extra tax and import tariff, but it might just be worth it. I think I am going to go for it.
IDK.... I really prefer the look of a moc toe that has 2 pieces of leather actually stitched together to form that hard ridge and not just a single stitch line that raises a small rib. Just my preference.
Hardly your everyday re-crafting a pair of boots. More like remaking a pair of boots from scratch. In fact, it might be more expensive by buying a new pair because you have to tear up all the pieces on the old boots. If you believe that this is a normal job re-crafting a pair of Nicks boots then I have beachfront property for sale in Montana.
Yes but the benefit of reusing the upper is two fold it saves the customer money but more than that it gives the benefit of the uppers is already molded to the person ankle/calf
I would just get the new moc toe boots at that point. Why save that crappy upper piece that now looks out of place? A new upper isn't that hard to break in.
Зачем это суп из топора? К старой убитой коже приделали все новое, но все равно засовываешь ноги в старые ботинки. И порвутся эти ботинки как раз по старой коже. Только как эксперимент имеет смысл.
I wish you would've defined "budget". I'm seeing cork midsole, double layered leather etc. Doesn't look like a "budget" boot. That looked like a decent quality boot. I consider budget to mean under $150
@@nicksboots well hot dang! Looks like I know where my redwing Hawthorne muleskinner mocs are going when it's time to get a rebuild! I assume they'll be dark enough with obenauf's they won't look too weird with black rough out! I love the 1 piece moc's higher durability.
@@ThomasSteed says in the description that they will only do these rebuilds for Nicks boots. They were just using this pair as an example/research im guessing.
