Keep in mind, this video was made a lot. Time ago. I have added much more stuff for the hermits to climb and play around on. I have changed the sand with a new kind of sand and made some more room. This is a great tank and thank you for the help with mine I just wanted to say they may fight if they’re is a big size difference in the crabs also it helps the if you wash the rocks of before you put them in

Very true! I should have washed them but since I have did so much cleanings the dust from the rocks are now completely gone! Hermit crabs can fight over size. But mine hasn’t done that yet which is a good thing. The biggest crab is actually best friends with the small one!

Ended up going full substrate about 2 years ago. Works great and retains humidity

Great setup! I love the fact that you used one of those critter keepers as a water dish since most people just use them as the whole enclosure lol. And great idea with the moss-pit-tree-thing! I have a fake log I could do this with, and would have never thought of that idea ^^

What sand did you switch to because the commercial hermit crab sand can actually stick to the too they`re legs and make it hard to move

I used regular play sand from the hard where store. Lowe’s or Home Depot. You can get a 50 pound bag for $5 and it’s very natural looking for them. Just make sure it says play sand on it

Itz_Just_Jack Pine wood has weird types of bark, usually those huts are Pinewood unless you get a fake one

Hey kiddo, I love how much you love your buddies. But the log is unsafe for them. I had the same one in my tank, but had to remove it. You want to mix Your sand and Eco earth together at a 5:1 Ratio that’s 150 pound bag of play sand to half brick of eco earth. And it need to be 6” deep so they can molt.

Pitbull Service dog TJ I removed it in my recent cleaning because I felt that it could be bad I just mixed the sand in my old tank just so it would be even and I prefer more eco earth in my tank just to keep the humidity up. My tank has 6-7 inches of substrate. I am going to a update I added a lot more things recently and made it a lot better

I love your tank setup, video cool! I know you said you have 6-7 inches of substrate in your tank, however, because your tank is so deep it would be very beneficial for your crabs if you made the substrate deeper. The minimum depth for hermit crabs substrate is 6 inches, but you can make it much deeper because your tank is longer.

I know but the problem is that if I make it deeper they will have less climbing space I am trying to keep it as tall and lots of room as possible while maintaining 6 inches minimum 🙂 but I make sure they have a lot of molting space I have it about 4 times deeper than my largest crab! When my crabs get bigger I will definitely up the substrate!

Great video. Love the new tank. I have hermit crabs too. I have the same tank like your old 20 gallon long. I get my other hermit crab at hermitcrabpatch.com they have great food for hermit crabs and also the fruits and veggies too that you use.

Also one more commend lol, you shouldn’t use rocks because they can brake their legs. Edit:I’ll add your snap so we can talk about our hermit crabs

Itz_Just_Jack yes I know that for sure! They can be used in pools though because the water softens the rocks and makes it harder to break a lim.
