There is foam spray on Amazon for waterfalls. It is waterproof and dark grey. It's a little more expensive, but that is what he should have used in conjunction with pure silicone.

every time you said that you used the foam to seal or glue something I was like "NOOOOO" lol. The foam is just used to create lightweight mass. Silicone is used for sealing and gluing stuff. The idea for using plastic containers to build mass was genius and the end result is still amazing

Another hazard issue is that the foam dispenses styrene vapours when hardening. Styrene litterally melts your brain so most care when dealing with it is obligatory. Proper face mask and plendy of fresh air is needed.

Question is foam dangerous for amphibians? I thought you have to cut the glossy layer? (I guess doesn't matter since it's for plants but curious) Also would the water pull chemicals off the foam?

Great work and it looks great. For the next Paludarium ..here are some small but important tips. Carve the shiny first layer from the foam so the silicone will stick. Otherwise it will not. Work in little sections with the silicone, because it drys out fast. It is easier to take your hands ( with gloves off course) instead of a brush. I can not wait how it will look in several weeks. Enjoy your Paludarium.

It looks so gooddddd T^T Hope I can make sth like that someday. I’d like to make a few suggestions on what plants to put in there in case u need some ideas! Miniature orchids like pleurothalis, zootrophions, masdevallia, and draculas all love high humidity and will probably love that setup. Also some selaginella fern would look nice too, since some species has a blue sheen on it, and it looks cool too! Happy growing

Good work! Aa for the leaking, an idea is to try o seal the gaps with aquarium silicone on the outside and possibly place a water resistant colour (like the ones for bathrooms. I do not know if it will hold or work, but it is an idea I played with when I am playing with the idea of a paladarium. If you ever get a problem with the cute critters escaping I would recommend netting the openings and any wire holes 🙂 otherwise l enjoyed the video and got a few ideas (and I liked how you did a voice over correction as well on some parts! Keep up the good work!

I really love this idea especially if you put fish in the bottom but you'd have to do a lot more ceiling. Generally use great stuff plus pond if you're going to use anything with water because it's meant for wear and tear in water areas I'm not sure the regular great stuff will hold up over time. The silicone coating you need to seal the foam and it has to be a very thick coating and is very important for sealing. Also you absolutely need to seal all the cracks and all of the edges with silicone not foam. I am inspired to figure out how to do this but with a fish tank.

I really like the concept. I have been curious if one could convert an IKEA cabinet into an actual planted terrarium, not just a group of potted plants on shelves, so thank you for doing this video. I gotta say though. the moisture situation with those beautiful begonias near gave me a full on panic attack. I have been growing begonias for quite awhile now and while my collection isn't large, o only have about 24 plants. that all I can handle currently. each species is native to a different place, with different climate, different growing conditions, soil types, geology, lighting, humidity, the list goes on and on. while most of my collection enjoy the relative same humidity levels, what I grow them in varies wildly. one of my favorites grows naturally only on the limestone cliffs and out croppings in a small area of Vietnam, close to the Chinese boarder. that fact I learned from a map of the geological make up of that area. (thankyou google) limestone, in essence being calcium carbonate in rock form, acts in the soil to eliminate acidity. concluding that my begonia species will thrive in more alkaline medium. course grade medium that mimicked the kind of natural organic debris one would find in that habitat growing off limestone cliffs. species that derive from low elevations will need higher temps then plants that grow naturally at higher elevations, one of my plants comes from so high above sea level it didn't thrive until I started giving it 40 degree night time temps. back to my point before I swerved floored it into that tangent. THE WATER ON THE LEAVES! yes Begonias love high humidity. I have plants I keep as close to 100% humidity as I possibly can. but high humidity doesn't mean wet. begonias are just as sensitive to wet leaves as they are to wet feet. we use an airy, chunky potting mix so air can flow into the soil and around the roots. helping to keep the roots strong and not all mushy with root rot. the most exciting species to grow are so sought after and admired because of their looks. they look really cool. the colors, the shapes, the hairs, the hairs. all these things can be seen in every imaginable way with even a small sampling of species of begonias. a lot of these traits can also end up killing your plant. the hairs along the petioles of some can trap drops of water leading to rot of any other disease. drops of water left on leaves to long will permanent cause black spots of decay. the leaf margins or edges are especially vulnerable to this type of rot. so mind leaves touching the sides of terrariums because even a small bit of contact can trap some condensation and rot the edge of the leaf. all this is even more crucial with the ever expanding availability of plants. rare and once highly sought after can now be bought online for $20. begonias are beautiful. they grow well with orchid,. aroids, ferns, and most other tropical plants. bright indirect light and high humidity. but every type of indoor plant has one thing , one thing or another that it requires care wise that sets it apart from the next one. do your research first. especially if the cost of the plant you want could put that new bay window you and the misses have been talking about ever since the boys left for collage. (LOL) don't break the bank for a plant until you've done the research. better yet until you have gained some experience with other members of the genus that won't reduce you to franks and beans from a can for the next two months. but hey, if mom and dad are paying the bill for flower pots and bags of worm crap, I guess I would say go for it. Wouldn't it be just heaven to have someone that just paid for all your plants? nothing else. just plants. as many and whichever ones. of course you would have to buy the pots and medium for potting all these plants. you also have to cover the costs of fertilizer, pest control, etc. don't forget a place to keep them all. a house with a greenhouse would be nice. if really expensive rare plants were just given to you. you didn't have to work for them at all. would the plants you worked your butt off to buy, would they feel more special to you. would just giving away a plant for no reason diminish it's value. loose it's "keepsake"ness. they do say the things one works hard for mean the most. 4 years of paper routs and mowing lawns to buy that first car. you know the one, the convertible with stick shift. I don't know. question for the ages I guess. this is what I get for smoking a joint this early. BUT....MAN YOU'RE GIVING PALPITATIONS WITH THE WATER ON THE LEAVES OF THOSE GEORGOUS BEGONIAS. if they aren't allowed to dry by nighttime, all the leaves of all your Begonias will turn to mush like all of your plants seed leaves did by the look from earlier in the video. high humidity/not wet plants.

Also yes you need to silicone it. But it doesn't have to be aquarium silicone. Just the stuff that ISN'T mold and mildew resistant.
