Does the pothos root have to be in contact with soil for it to grow or i can cover it in a ball og sphagnum moss and hang it somewhere along the cork bark?

Hey guys can someone help me? I have had two young tokay geckos for a month, I have a 1 meter high and 90 wide terrarium where I keep them. I have a temperature of 28-30 degrees in the terrarium. I spray the terrarium twice a day for moisture. but i have the problem that since i got them they haven't eaten once i have offered them many insects but they are not interested. However, the geckos are active at night and show no signs of being unwell, what can be the reason that the geckos are not eating?

It's really not. Reptiles, with the rare exception of social ones that need to be kept in groups to feel secure, are solitary animals. They do not experience family 'bonds' like mammals and other animals do. This is actually an example of dominant behavior. People think reptiles 'piling' are snuggling or enjoying the closeness of each other, this is actually a very tense behavior used to attempt to establish hierarchy in an environment unnatural to how they'd normally live and vie for the best hiding place. These animals are certainly stressed out and I can guarantee one or more will get injured when they inevitably fight, whether that's a couple weeks or a couple years from now. People who cohab solitary reptiles like leopard geckos, crested geckos, bearded dragons, etc. always say "they've been fine for years!" and then they wake up to bloody mess. Not to mention animals that can be found living near each other in loose groups have their entire environment to establish territories and get away from each other. We keep our pets in terrariums with no way to escape each other or leave if situations get stressful. Cohabbing solitary reptiles has absolutely no benefit to the animals themselves, it is a selfish practice done only for the keeper's benefit.

They are really amazing parents! And siblings! Besides being cheeky and sometimes trying to steel food from each other they are very gentle with one another and protect each other! A unique dynamic to see amongst reptiles!

Thank you so much! Tbh, regardless of isopods + spring tails, I strongly recommend that folks manually remove feces from their animals enclosures. It's just cleaner and presents the risk of a parasite life cycle running full circle if your pet chooses to ingest any cleanup crew that fed on fecal material.

Yea they are def a great option when you have a lot of tanks! Def a lot of work if you have a stand alone and want a plug and play which is why I really love using my 3 monsoons too!

Hi! I would recommend a low watt ceramic heat emitter or a blue heat light. The red lights aren’t good because the animals do see that light and it disrupts their day/night cycle! Hope that helps! 😊

Honestly, I don’t like to stress my tokays. My logic was to take the extra time to make it less stressful for them. I also really value having my animals feel safe around me so I didn’t want to reverse my taming efforts by trying to trap them in cups even though I had to with a few of the juveniles that ran away up the walls haha.

Welcome! It's sort of the same as any situation with plants, it's when you bring in a new plant without realizing it has pests hidden on it. I must have introduced them to the enclosure and they went unnoticed for a bit before it was too late :(! It's also tricky treating plants when you have animals living in the enclosure too because you obviously can't use pesticides, etc. I usually use bio control in the form of predatory mites, fungi, etc. Hope that helps!

They could technically stay together their whole life. I would be a bit concerned if they matured into males as I don’t know if that could lead to rivalry. I don’t allow it though.

Both of them are cb! I raised Tiki since he was 1 week old! I would recommend a vet checkup and fecals/parasite treatment for wc tokays.

That’s one very big and very happy family of geckos! I’d suggest looking for a tank on a classifieds page :). You can sometimes find great deals on terrariums. I recommend no smaller than an 18x18x24 for 1-2 tokay geckos.

I'd buy a cheap bookcase, some plexiglass / acrylic, window screen, and some vinyl wrap. Most cages the proper size are massive expensive and barely available. Or keep an eye out for used stuff....mention it to your local pet stores...they often "toss out" older well used store enclosures...or sell for next to nothing. Lots of custom built stuff goes for nothing.

@@jellybean4320 Just a reminder too...tokays get BIG for a gecko...mine was almost 16" long! so an 18" depth tank is definitely NOT big enough for an adult male tokay! Definitely not two! My male standing vertical on the glass of a 24" tall enclosure...his nose would be on the ceiling, and tail almost in the substrate.

That’s sad :(. They help eat pest insects!

@@Reptiliatus Yes they do, but in t he philippines theyre also kind of considered as an predator because they soemtimes eat small dogs/ cats or other small pets + they are noisy

With scale I'm fairly confident it's mostly on the plants and not the decor. I've also never had scale attack Pothos which is why I was so relaxed about that but you are absolutely right had I been using any other type of plant!
